    Re: plat per hour?

How much plat per hour can you make, not counting bazaar mule time?

For comparison, I make about 1kpp per hour by churning out hundreds of Qeynos Afternoon Tea, Grobb Liquidised Meat, and Misty Thicket Picnics.
Depends on your luck with the RNG. For the Engraved Royal Velium, you can make a profit of 3k or more on a BP - so if you get the right gem to drop to make it in under 3 hours, you are ahead. [Not to mention the exp you will get, depending on your level.] If the RNG is in a bad mood, however....

In terms of time spent clicking, you make more profit per item smithing and so can theoretically make more "money per hour" smithing making Acrylia Plate, whoch you can buy components for in Bazaar. How *fast* you sell, however, depends a lot on your server dynamics. I might sell 2-3 pieces of acrylia plate/week.

If your focus is "plat per hour" however ....well, I wouldn't advise anyone thinking solely terms of pure profit maximization to take up any tradeskill. No idea what the best would really be in that case.

Above 188, I have been making money making 3 classes of armors: old cultural, Acrylia Plate and Engraved Royal Velium. They don't fly off the vendor but I have been selling them steadily for last few months. They do certain make enough money to fund my tradeskills. However, they are a pain to make. I have to spend at least 2-3 nights on farming, gathering, purchasing and combining. However, the success items, speciall BP and Leggings do sell well enough on Xev.

These suggestions are really helpful and have given me a glimpse of a light at the end of the carpal tunnel. I had reached 132 with my smithing and stopped out of frustration with the costs of raising it. I guess I should break the ole hammer back out again and start plugging away.

          Profitable

I've got a Dorf smith, and I've made quite a bit of money with blacksmithing. I started doing old cultural when I hit 188 skill, and have been profitable ever since.

The key for me was patience. When I hit 188 I made a full suit of Enchanted Dwarven Plate, and a full suit of (Imbued Enchanted) Dwarven Plate. I put those on my trader, and every time I sold pieces, I made more and filled in. Slowly but surely my skill went up - threw in a couple Shadowscream runs for good measure, and now I'm 236 plus trophy.

I wasn't the first Dorf smith on the market, and now there are quite a few on my server, but I still make decent money with old cultural. Not nearly as much as I used to, but the Ykesha expansion was good to me, since Frogloks can wear it. It's relatively cheap to make - buy the lava rocks in the Bazaar, buy LQ/MQ/HQ pelts for cheap and farm the spiderling silk for padding.

Now I'm doing blue diamond stuff, but that doesn't sell all that frequently. I still make money with old cultural.

            Making Money!!!

Smithing is not a money sink!!!

Since I hit 240 some time ago, I have had great success in selling the Fierce Heraldic armor. Though I never actually counted every copper spent on increasing my skill, I can tell you that I started smithing in February and at that time I had a grand total of 8kpp among all my toons. Through out my time increasing my skill I sold much stuff and made platinum to fund my smithing and I figure I spent probably rougly 120kpp getting to 250 skill. During that time I resold everything I made to vendors except for the Mistletoe Cutting Sickles of which I made approximately 80 in total, all of which sold well to the players in the bazaar. I also recommend avoiding the Ornate Chain Stuff completely, as it is not necessary to skill up with to get to 188.

Since I hit 240 I have made 3 Fierce Heraldic BPs, 2 Greaves, and a couple smaller Fierce pieces as well, and by selling them I have easily crossed the point of break-even with little effort so far. Perhaps this isn't neccessarily the case on each server and for that I would do some research. If you aren't in a hurry to skill-up and you are willing to do the farming for your own supplies, then when you reach high enough skill you should start to see some profits.

Oh and this is just the case for a human smith, I have no idea how the market is for the other cultural armors.

Yeah Smithing is not a Money Sink if you're a Human Smith...

But if you're a High Elven Smith on a server with ~12 GM High Elven Smiths, you're not likely to make much money on the BD stuff.

Does anybody find any of the ogre cultural sells ok?

A lot of ogre warriors will be wearing fierce heraldic, as they are rallos zek worshippers, but there are also ogre shadowknights and warriors and shamans. The majority of ogres are warriors by far, though.

Anybody have experience with ogre cultural or any idea what it might be a good idea to price it at? I don't see a lot of it around, and that might be a bad sign.

Shadowscream is looking like a gigantic time sink, too. Hoping at some point I can get around part of the 188 to 250 range by doing something besides shadowscream, without losing too much money. Am 188 now and 62 points of shadowscream is looking mind bogglingly, insanely time consuming.

At level 40ish smithing, you can farm velium in CC or Velks to make velium studs and boning. If you have 150ish brewing you can even brew the CVT's yourself for even more of a profit. These sell very well to up and coming tailors.

You can make a ton of plat in smithing. 2 ways atm that I know of to do this IMHO.

First way Tae EW BP and Legs and Shields. Even if you buy the components (2 bloods basically) for 2000pp each thats a 4k investment. They sell all day long between 8500-12500pp. You are doubling your money at the very least.

Second way is...believe it or not they still sell....Mistletoe Sickles for Cabbage earring. They sell fast at 2500pp and even faster at 2000pp =P.
Cost is roughly what 500pp per combine and assuming you are a whore to the market thats 4 times money back at 2000pp.

I am sure there are other ways to make the plat you desire but these financed my fletching. Fletching is easy to skill up if you have the plat ergo Smithing for Dollars

You are assuming that there are no failures. I believe Tae Ew armor has 250 plus trivial and so are the sickles. Even if you are at 250 smithing, the success rate is about 50%. Which means that your double of money on Tae Ew goes away and you are breaking even. You may make money on Sickles if they sells for 2kpp. Usually on Xev, I see them on sale for 1k to 1.5kpp at most, again with failures, it's a barely break even proposition.

Perhaps I am just a lucky fool then. I have attempted around 20 or so Tae Ew Tunics/legs/shields only to fail once. And yeah the Sickles still sell for 2-2500pp on CT go figure.
