• Loam Drop Rates

Ok as it stands loams seem to be by far the rarest of the 3 types of drops. Now think about how many classes need loams, compared to spinners/marrow.

Loam = Clr/Bard/War/Pal/Sk + Ranger/Sham/rog/Berz = 9

Marrow = Bst/Monk/Druid = 3

Spinner = Ench/Mage/Wiz/Necro = 4

So Loams are needed OVER twice as much as the other items.. This doesnt take into account there are far more plate classes (cle/war/pal/sk) then others on most servers.

These drop rates really need to be balanced against the # of classes taht need them. Having the Cloth/Leather stuff so common compared to the plate/chain makes cloth/leather armor about 5x cheaper then plate/chain, and this isnt correct IMO.

There is more that goes into the drop rates here than you are considering.

The drops are "global" in that any mob in the correct level range of the correct race can drop the item.

If people are going out and slaughtering animals and spiders en masse and not finding/killing golems/constructs, then you will see this imbalance.

If you are refering strictly to humanoid model types that have a chance to drop any of the 3, then that is different and there are already a couple threads about that and I did not hear if any changes to those drop rates went in with SoF yet or not.

I farmed heavily since the release of the SoF expansion. I mostly killed mobs in Fortress Mechanotus and The Steam Factory for the completion of the Sublime Impressions quest.

The Loams seem to be exaordinary rare. In roughly 30 hours of non-stop killing, I saw approximatively this:

1 Alkalai Loam
1 Porous Loam
10 Tantalum Ore
25 Titanium Ore
60 Exquisite Silk
40 Flawless Silk
1 Exquisite Marrow
4 Exquisite Spinneret Fluid
40 Exquisite Animal Pelt
40 Flawless Animal Pelt
10 Flawless Spinneret Fluid

I spent a lot of plats and also worked hard to be miraculously able to get my hands on 2 porous loam and 7 tantalum ore. I tried to make the elegant plate legs for barbarian...bang, 2 fails on final combine...no salvage, nothing, roughly 3 days of heavy farming down the drain.

The drop rate on theses must REALLY be raised....its ridiculously low right now.

might just be the rng, so far I've found 7 porous loams and only 2 tantalum ores. (haven't really kept track of the rest). failed both combines I tried as well... need to get some more ore to try again hehe.

Exquisite silks drop more commonly then burger king can crank out burgers in Ashengate. However Alkaine Loams and Porous loams only drop from the mobs there from what I have seen. Very few ores.

Loam drops

Ive got roughly 27 hours in Fortress camping, all gnomes and mechanicals.
we've gotten more silk than you can shake a stick at, 22 tantalum ore, 4 exquisite spinneret fluid, 3 of the marrow for elegant (dont remember which it is, my druid friend snags them as soon as I link them in group) and exactly 1 porous loam.

Pretty depressing with only a druid wanting the marrow, no one wanting the silk and 4 people wanting plate/ chain.

I spent another 15 hours in Fortress Mechanotus in 2 days killing humanoids. Got roughly this:

20 Exquisite Silk
10 Exquisite Animal Pelt
2 Exquisite Marrow
3 Exquisite Spinneret Fluid
7 Tantalum Ore
0 Porous Loam

There are 7 people in bazaar buying Porous Loam at 40Kpp a piece and one that was put for sale at 135Kpp sold in the blink of an eye.

The drop rate of the porous loam really needs a fix.

This is ridiculous....

Exquisite Marrow...leathers...DRU, MNK, BST needs (3 Classes)

Exquisite Spinneret Fluid, silk, MAG, WIZ, ENC, NEC needs (4 Classes)

Porous Loam, plate, BRD, CLR, SHM, BER, RNG, ROG, WAR, PAL, SHD needs (9 Classes)

...and guess what's the hardest piece to get ? ...Porous Loam.

Pretty sad.

/agree the drop rate of the loams/fluid/marrows versus the other items is waaaaaay off. So far I've gotten a ton of silks/pelts, quite a few of the tantalum ore and 1 pourous loam and 3 alkalai loams since SoF launch.

The suprising part is did a grind in the locating the statue mission in TBS the other night and had 9 tantalum ore and bout 22 silks drop. This is suprising as I keep reading where these are only supposed to drop in the upper tier Sof zones, and that was in a 2 hour clearing of the zone versus many many hours in SoF ffs.

No, the base template material is supposed to be pretty plentiful, it's the "finishing" material (marrow, loam, spinneret fluid) that acts as the control on the actual cultural armours being created -- and that, for sure, only gets dropped as part of the 6% chance to drop a "higher" grade item.

I reajusted the rate yesterday, but it did not make it into the patch (it was after we had already pushed all the data to staging server)

If there is another LDoN day, they will go in early, or I may ask for it to be pushed early after QA has looked at it. I am looking at a few more possible adjustments before I send it to QA (include more "golem" races in the metal races)

***BUT***

Fortress Mechanotus is **NOT** the target zone for those drops. And because of it, it will be rare. on the table you were pulling from it has a 2.22 % chance to get a drop at all and THEN a 2% chance to be porus loam, 2% chance to be the 80 marrow and 4% chance to be the 80 spinnerette, This is BEFORE the changes I made (since we are speaking of the past)

I.E. RARE.

you have a better chance in another zone.

But in the end... this stuff will be rare anyway.

you need to camp tier 3 zones if you expect any decent return on drops. I had some drop in such places as the planes (earth, air) with some regularity prior to SoF release, but rare.

I will admit I have seen few loams, marrow and spinerets even in the tier 3 so far. If you can't handle 2600+ hitting trash you will be disappointed for awhile. My group is barely able to kill 20-30 mobs before repops and we are Solteris raiding guild. These aren't even the highest zones. Don't thnk any are flagged for Meldrath's yet and that zone is pure evil. So really only the top tier guilds are going to see a large drop rate on these. I really doubt my guild group could handle Meldrath's yet. Only those handful of guilds who have Solteris on farm status would do well there currently imo. Numerous zones folks are not flagged to yet or even know how to get flagged still.

Crystallos yielded 4 marrow, 5 fluild, 15 silk, 7 pelts, 5 ore, 0 loam. So is this bad luck? Mansion is an awful zone to try to farm this in. It has pathing issues and mobs are stacked ontop of each other, bleh. If you want a suggestion I'd go to steam factory. I managed to farm 4 loam there in a day.

Ngreth: Thanks a lot for ANY improvement you can do to the current situation...I might be complaining lots but I appreciate your work and how you listen to players feedback to include it in your work. The cultural revamp is simply awesome and if the loam would drop as often as the exquisite spinneret fluid i would be very very very very happy. No matter what thoses high end raiders will whine at...you just made the game much much better for thoses who dont play Everquest as a second job (40+ hours per week) and who are looking for a way to gain strength without having to waste their social life raiding.

I'm not entirely clear on the tiers of SoF. There's a visible difference between Steam factory and Mechanotus. There's a visible difference between Steam factory and Meldrath's Majestic Mansion. There's a visible difference between Meldrath's Majestic Mansion and Crystallos. So does this mean Tier 3 is solely Mansion? and Tier 4 is solely Crystallos? Either way neither of them are going to be on 'farm status' for the vast vast majority of guilds and neither of them see to have a better drop rate from what I experienced.
