  • Please Help Progression Smithing

First a little background. When i started smithing in EQ when velious first came out, Banded armor would take you to 175. Fine Plate would take you to the 240ish and you could cap at 250 on the old old world cultural. When SoL or PoP came out they revamped smithing to today's current form and added the really nice BD cultural.

On the Progression server, as it stands today with kunark open, many valuable recipes for skill ups are still disabled. As an ogre smith i can cap at 188 with fine plate but have no road that i am aware of to go higher. I had thought that i could make the imbued ogre war plate as a path. But today when i tried to make imbued ogre splint mail my recipe would not combine.

I understand that imbued cultural may not be era specific to kunark, but stat food and drink was for sure not available in kunark yet it is still in the game.

Most other Tradeskills have a viable route to 250+. Bakers, Brewers, Tailors(some maybe all races), Fletchers, Jewelers, and Potters can all go to 250+ as it stands.

Perhaps you could look into unlocking the old cultural, or give me a hint if there is some path i am totally overlooking.

Old Cultural is by no means overpowered and would be doable but difficult way to skill up past 188, as it should be.

    Thanks

Unfortunately the progression server is filled with vocal people who constantly point and cry "nerf this" and "remove that" and "it's overpowering for this content" all day long.

There really is no reason, in my opinion, that old cultural stuff should be locked now that Kunark is out. People will soon be farming Kunark dragons and getting stuff much more valuable in Sebillis.

    Imbued Koada`dal Mithril Cuirass
    MAGIC ITEM
    Slot: CHEST
    AC: 26
    DEX: +10 CHA: +8 WIS: +5
    WT: 5.2 Size: LARGE
    Class: WAR CLR PAL BRD

This is hardly going to be game changing, or overpowering. It's 242 trivial also, and requires 49 enchanter to do the metal and a wisdom caster to imbue gems, plus mob drops and forage only item to make it. All that work should have some reward.

If they don't put it in the game soon, it will be too late. Everyone will be wearing Velious quest armor and have no need for any of this.

I was really hoping that the old cultural would go live with Kunark. I can see saving the blue diamond version for later but the old cultural is... well... old and doesn't seem to be overpowered.

If not Kunark I'd hope it at least goes live with Velious but yeah thats going to be too late for most people who will just go straight for HoT armor if they raid at all.

BD cultural, including that Cuirass I think, requires velium. So whether or not they left the recipe in, nobody would be able to make one yet anyway. Now the lower imbued/enchanted items are barely as good as droppable items, many times not better. I have heard they were added during Kunark so shouldnt they have been activated with Kunark? I dont know of any new recipes that went live with Kunark.

On Combine, I have been waiting to work on smithing until the yield change is put in on metal bits. Unfortunately after over a month the change still has not been implemented. Yeah, I know it needs a full patch, but it is sad that it takes so long to get things like this put into the game.

BD Cultural has to be atleast velious. Some of it uses velium.

                Thank you!

I know that doesn't necessarily mean a change but it is very much appreciated!

The Koada'Dal like that cuirass does not require velium or blue diamonds.
Full Mithril and Blessed Full Mithril do.

Velious is out. The High Elf (and presumable others) Cultural Koada'dal is not. The armor will have a marginal time slot for any significant usefulness, with the quest armor already being sold by multiquest.

Any chance of a bump to Maddoc on this? Thanks in advance.

                          ...

After browsing the combine page of EQPlayers I dont' see any warriors wearing cultural armor, the velious / blue diamond / 335 skill player made armor.

Am I wrong in thinking that it should be open with velious? I remember it being that way originally.

If it is still restricted until later than velious it will be outdated as Krayt mentioned and I will have wasted a massive amount of platinum preparing to make this armor for myself and friends.

Could anyone confirm these combines are working or not from The Combine?

I took a poke and found a bunch of stuff set for luclin. I will talk to Maddoc about it but I realistically do not think there will be time to do anything about it until after Serpents Spine is released.

(And before folks pitch a fit at me... I had nothing to do with the selection of expansions)

Hopefully people here are smart enough to realize you are on our side and not throw fits.

Really appreciate you looking into it... I've been looking forward to making this stuff but totally understand that time is finite.
