...but if you need the stuff why not organize a spell ganking group? Take a group down to SF, pull every named mob in the zone and everything else on the side.
The only problem with doing that, I have discovered, is that every Skyfire group I have been in is adamantly opposed to hunting even one Chromadrac on the grounds that we will constantly be re-buffing ourselves.

I suspect that is the case with many other groups, and the reason these annoying little creatures rule their area of Skyfire.

I consider myself a "professional" merchant on Zeb server. That is to say, I make most of my pp from buying things off NPC merchants that will sell for a profit to players. That, quite obviously, usually means tradeskill supplies. Needless to say, I spend a great deal of time watching price behavior in the bazaar. So, I think I can give you some insight into the phenomenon of price stability/instability.

It really is like the real world, where merchants price items for whatever the market is willing to pay. The difference is of course that the EQ world really is a much smaller market, so fluctuations flow much more quickly.

Time of day and time of week also play a big part. Most traders are not at their comps to monitor competitors' prices during the weekday, so cannot lower prices frequently. Yes, I said only lower - not many folks will raise their prices on a regular basis. Check the going rate, set your price slightly lower, and then adjust when necessary. You've never heard of a "price war" with rising prices, have you?

If you want to buy at the best price, buy in the early evening on Saturday before folks get serious about hunting. That is when you will find the most items available from both "professional" traders who get their items from NPC merchants, and the traders who have actually looted their supplies. You will get the best prices from those who have looted their supplies - they don't have a break even price that they can't go below. And, they need to free up space for the coming night's loot.

In the middle of the week is when you will see items at the highest prices for a sustained period. People are not at their computers to lower my prices in response to competitors, so it doesn't come down. The competitors' stock sells, the higher priced stuff remains.

Yes, I have seen what I believe to be people trying to corner a market. But, when I'm selling an item briskly at a given price, I raise the price in response to the increased demand. I keep raising the price until I must lower it to sell. The price soon comes back down when the market-cornering individual has driven the price up so far they realize they have done nothing more than hurt themselves. Take a little consolation in the knowledge that they will eventually end up selling their vast stocks at less than they paid.

I started buying sunlight at 100pp each in June. With very few exceptions, I've stuck to that pricing.

I don't have too many problems getting sunlight. I'm in a high-end raiding guild, so I don't have a lot of time to spend farming or shopping in the bazaar. Friends find it for me when they PL their alts and I have a regular list of people who vendor dive for me or watch the bazaar. I've seen it for sale at 300 - I don't know if it moves. I know I don't buy it.

I will say that - while I tell friends what I will pay and who I will and won't buy from - I cannot really control what they do. If someone hands me a stack of sunlight, I'm too busy thanking them to grill them on where they got it.

          Sunlight on Zeb

In answer to your question, Sunlight has been listing at over 300pp lately on Zeb. I can't say whether it's selling at these prices though.

I've been seeing these kinds of prices for sunlight for a long while on Nameless and couldn't believe that they were selling at 300+, but after reading this thread maybe I'm wrong. I mean, seriously folks, these prices are making Royal Temper more expensive than the Blue diamonds we used to crave as the cost limiter to our wares. Not to mention that, annoying as Chromas and Faerie Dragons are to hunt, they still aren't nearly as hard to kill solo as anything that drops BDs at a decent rate. It's a matter of what is your time worth? I realize that not all smiths are characters, or have main characters that can take these mobs solo, but as someone who can, I can honestly tell you that I'd rather hunt them myself than pay more than 50pp per sunlight. The problem on my server, is that too many human smiths jumped on the Fierce Heraldic Bandwagon and now the market is flooded. I've been seeing these 3 impatient smiths price war each other and every other human smith out of any sort of reasonable profit with large supplies in the Bazaar. Add to this that there are at least 4 other Human smiths I know of on my server, and all the people reselling their armor for cheap just to get rid of it, and I'm thinking that I'd rather play the game that fight a losing battle to be even a part-time smith.

On Rodcet Nife, I saw it going for 250-300pp each. So I promptly offered up my only one for 100. Looks like even I was out of line. ops:

In RN I saw sunlights at 300pp...just laughed and didn't buy it.
Few days later it went down to 175 pp..
But don't really feel like to buy it over 100pp...
Recently I just hunt for vendors...Or just go farm it myself...
Even I don't have time raiding and getting exp for myself, 300pp is too much for those IMHO..

As a human paladin that has over 40 Royal Tempers, let me tell you why the prices of Essence of Sunlight has increased. As anyone that hunts in Skyfire will tell you, no one kills the chromodracs any more. The reason is that VI "enhanced" them. They now insta-cast Boil Blood and Dispel Magic at a greater range than my spells (as either a 61 wizard or a 52 druid). Therefore, I run the risk of losing my KEI if I pull them. As they cast boil blood, dispel magic, boil blood before I can get my Root (or Ensnare) cast (yes, all 3 of them), then it really is a Lose/Lose situation to pull them for an item that is such a rare drop. I would suggest farming EoS from Sand Giants (a horrible alternative...not as target rich) or getting a Necro that does not need KEI and fear kite the chromos. There are plenty up right now in your SF zone, no matter your server. I even petitioned because I thought it was bugged. The lack or returning them to previous form leads me to believe they are working as intended. /shrug...there goes a perfectly good zone.

It happens, on Trib we're hitting 300-500 usualy for Sunlight on market now, and to make things worse, in the last 2 months newer human smiths have cut the sellability value in half (more than). I agreed prices should drop with BD's being more common, but while things like sunlight raise in price, armor now sells for less than half of what it did 2 months ago.

From my experience in Skyfire, and this was before the Chromo's got beefed up.

No group that I saw was actively hunting them, due to the Dispell effect they had. Except for the groups trying to get the fragments for Cleric epics. They just killed anything and everything.

                      Since (as someone pointed out before);

                      a) The Cleric backlog on Epics, is over.

                      b) Chromo's have always been less than desirable to hunt anyways, NOW they suck flat out.

                      c) Chromo's, bar the sunlight, as far as I know have nothing at all special to drop. Therefore no other reason for people to hunt them.

I have been selling them for 50pp each, the few I had at least. Kinda seems I am cutting my own throat at that price. If I was just a regular player, non-smith I mean, I suppose I would put my price somewhere between 100 and 200pp as well...

lol 500 per windstone, and 150 for the mist... thats crazy pricing, what do the plate pieces sell for with that kind of component cost ? (assuming ppl do buy at that price).

Tarrew Marr is 150 to 300, common is 220ish for windstones, not sure on swirling and blocks can be picked up for 70 to 150, mainly lower 100 but....

The prices on the rathe are now completely out of hand. What do I see when i search for "sunlight" today?

                            1 for 500pp
                            2 for 400pp
                            8 for 600pp

                            ...each.

BDs can be had for 400-600pp each, but with it being hard to sell cultural at anything above 5000pp per ring, I'm giving a collective "screw you" to these sunlight hoarders (who buy anything put on the bazaar and reprice to keep the price up), and buying no more. I have 15 tempers and when they are gone I'm going to only smith cultural on a bring your own components basis.

I'm just disgusted. I was already being forced to buy sunlights for the 300pp each everyone was charging, in order to finish making stuff for friends, but no more.
