  • At 228... SS armor, Acrylia, or MTCS?

Heya folks. Aspiring blacksmith here, iksar shammy looking to make cultural armor b/c I can never find any Twoscale for sale in bazaar.

After not tradeskilling for years after my 8th shawl, I decided to make the path to get as high as I can in smithing to make my own cultural armor. I did the EVB to 222 and I've been collecting stuff for SS armor. I have quite a bit in the bank right now, but it has taken me forever to get the components.

I've committed to doing getting close to 300. I don't really mind farming, but I underestimated the time it takes to get the shrieking/wailing substances and swirling shadows for SS armor. I figure it's going to take me at least an hour or more per skillup. I know that it would be roughly 6kpp to do 20 MTCS combines for a skillup.

My question is, would I be better served farming items to sell for plat to make the sickles than the SS armor? All the SS armor components are green to me, so if I could do somehting that also gives xp, it would be beneficial.

    Any ideas?

(btw, no smithing AAs or salvage yet.)

I went with the farming between raiding.

If it's JUST time you are worried about, I'd sit down and figure out how fast you can DO 20 combines of each combine. Then go with the fastest. Go ahead and do 20 of each you are considering. Do a bit of math and if you can farm plat faster than you can farm components, do that. It's all depends on how fast you can do each thing.

Good luck and enjoy yourself however you need to whichever way you choose!

Easiest route to 222 i think. Easy w/ ability to break velium weapons down into pieces

Aye, Mistletoe cutting sickles... I'll not be lazy next time and will type everything out so not to confuse ppl.

Oh there I go again... people, I mean. =P

Thanks for your help everybody. =)

What I'm really looking for is for advice from someone who has done this. Whether or not it is easier to make 6k/hr somewhere, or even somewhere near there, while getting exp, OR doing the SS armor route to 267.

I usually play with a 68 sk and my 65 wizzie bot (which makes the hollowshade war easier due to AOE nuking)

if Great Reptile Teeth are as rare as Great Reptile hides, then making your own Master level armor isnt going to work...but if they are not that rare, then making and selling Iksar master armor (there must be a demand for it if no one is making any) will pay for runs of MTCS, buying SS components and also give you skill ups from your own armor...

I personally did the sickles from 252-300 (nothing else). Cost a LOT of money, bugged a LOT of folks to do the emerald imbues (since I can only imbue rubies) - BUT:

                    1) If you have a 2nd account to store them on, they do sell decent - since they tribute for 1312. I always sold out of mine and had orders for up to 100 of them when I asked for 100-150 plat each. (Nowhere near the cost to make the item, but still enough return that it wasn't all down the drain moneywise).

                    2) Stock up on personal tribute (250k was max when I did it).

                    3) Make a swap with guild. Ask them for 10-20k; I forget the exact amount but it was something like for every 10k spent, you got like 34k back in tribute (may have been higher but it's been 5 months or so since I hit 300). Fill up guild tribute to max (500k when I did it).

I still say that Tae Ew Smithing is a good way to go, if you can farm the Tae Ew Bloods. I personally couldn't farm 'em, but I bought 'em and had friends/guildies donate a lot.
