  • Sickles and skill ups

Sickles are breaking my bank account.

Level 70 with 450 str, all my stats are maxed cept charisma.

I am averaging 30-40 combines to get a skill up.

Range just bad or should I not be buffing with champion etc before doing combines?

Smithing level 3 and Salvage level 3 too.

The closer you get to the triv the better it will get.

I did Shadowscream to 267 then went full bore on MTCS.

Here are my MTCS skill up stats:

    - WIS was at 335 for all combines
    - I did a total of 26 Stack try to skill from 267-300
    - I spent approximatley 160k pp for the run

I had 7, 10 slot bags for my runs. This gave me the ability to do 19 sickle combines at a time. I dumped my sickles to a mule on another account.

During one of my 19 combine tries I got 4 upticks - this was from 271-275. I am hard pressed to recall another high trade where I got 4 upticks in one stack try... lucky I guess.

So, keep plugging away Karim, the closer you get to 335 the easier it gets.

Just making sure.... you ARE using a GEERLOCK, yes?? If you don't have a geerlok, shame on you!, that would expalin your slow progression.

    Cheers,

Sounds like you are a bit low, but probably see a few more as you get higher. I didn't keep track, buy so far I'd say 1 in 20-25 is normal. Every so often I get lucky and get a couple skill-ups per 20, but I've also gone 40+ without a skillup. In fact my last run was 60 combines, with 1 skill up.

        I am 380 INT, level 70.

Also, I don't think mastery or salvage AA's have any effect on skill up rates.

neither mastery or salvage have any direct effect on skillup rates but both have an indirect effect.

salavage has a very minor effect, it may salaveg over a run enough for an extra combine or 2 (for a lil more skill up chance)

mastery halfs fail rate (at mastery 3) so more success, skill up rate is higher on a success than a fail, course after a certain point even without mastery youll be on minimum fail rate so no hope after that point

My skill up rate definately improved as i got closer to and above the trivial, from 250-270 ave combines/skill up were about 23, 250-285 ave about 25 and 250-300 averaged at 20.12. So those last 15 points were a synch compared to the rest.
I had 4 runs of over 60 combines for a skill up but had a fair few lucky streaks - 3 or 4 skill ups per stack.
Smithing can be very depressing at times, but keep at it, from whats been posted here, the ave skill up varies between about 19-25. With your strength, you should be at the lower end.
Sickles will hurt your bank account, at approx 7k/stack (no imbue-er, so i bought blessed dust/imbued emeralds and factoring in the failures on hilts, pommels and blades) a skillup/stack will cost 350k.

Actually, I bet your skillup rate stopped entirely when you reached the trivial.

I finished off my night with 3 skillups in a set of 20, then my last skill up 14 combines into the next set of 20. No more sickles for me! /cheer

Nope Boleslav, trivial cannot be reached naturally (they triv at 335), so i still gained skill-ups with my gloves on at 335-345 mod'd skill.

                      Sounds like me...

STR 455, WIS 470 (gotta love tribute)

Averaging 31.5 combines per skill up, on MCS.

                        Call me stubborn

I've been going the human cultural route [old style]. Did you know that Fierce Heraldic Boots tribute for 9.4k ? Takes a little longer to get materials then the sickle (mostly because of essence of sunlight) But most everything else is fairly readily available. I also trade away finished products to guildies for raw materials. Up to 261 skill now, and plugging away- ever so slowly . Averaging about 1 skill up every 20 attempts (vs 335 trivial).

my overall avg was 36 combines per skill point from 250-300 , had some long runs of zero skill up, then several runs were got 3-5 skillups in 30 combines

i would take a mule and have enough stuff to do 100 sickle combines, and did runs of 100 / night for several nights, turned the sickles in to guild tribute after i maxed out my tribute
