  • Smithing 220-226 for the causal raid smither.

If you have done enough raiding to start the Aid Grimel quest you have a simple way to raise your smithing from 220 to 226.

Start by making a stack or two of "Acid Wash" (3 cel. ess.+1 Jar of acid in brew barrel) and keep them on you.

Take the elevator up to the top floor where Aid Grimel is. Follow the script until you get to say "I am well versed in smithing". He will hand you a Breastplate (Lore).

    Bind by Grimel.

Now get a levitation on yourself and swoop down the elevator shaft and outside. Run straight ahead and instead of going down through the tower, jump out on the right and swoop down to the forge house. Combine BP and Acid wash in forge. Skill-up seems to be about 1 per 15 combines for me at INT 315.

Now make a hotbutton stating "/say I am well versed in smithing". Every time you gate to PoK, click the hotbutton, run down, combine. Takes about 30 secs extra which I find worth it.

Unfortunately, you have missed the trivial for the cleaned breastplate...it would be 227. So the thread should really read Smithing 220-227 for the casual raid smither

The quest that this combine is for can be found here:
    Aid Grimel Quest

There have also been many threads for this subquest part and the best ways to go about the running on various threads in this forum over time.

That is an excelent idea about levitate and binding at the top.

What I had been doing is binding at the forge and running back up. Thanks!

Actually, it should read casual raid smith. We don't all work for Mr. Burns on the Simpsons. :P </nitpick>

                Awesome Info

Did this last night..325 Wis. Started with 79 or so Acid washes..failed 1 in brewing I think skill 229 there. There was no need to keep destroying the cleansed breastplate you get as a result, it's faster to just ignore the duplicate lore messages. Over a period of two Spirit of Eagle castings, went from 220 to 225. Was nice to not have to pay the 100pp a pop that the EVBs cost (after bazaar prices). A couple other things I noted, after gating back you have to move a little to use your hotkey, I backed towards the elevator shaft hit it and turned. After you leave the library, there is a quarterpipe looking ramp you can use for a little height boost, then another wall decoration past it for a little more, and you can go right over the high wall. Before I found this I was waiting til the walkway dropped and going over the walkway. Now in the words of George of the Jungle...watch out for that tree! Got delayed in trees maybe 3 times. I got this down to below one minute per combine, only factor was if someone went and activated the elevator while i was diving...grrr. Doesn't matter which forge you use, go for the first one you can get to. I think I used Tanaan until someone else was using it. Don't think it made any time difference. My concern as a cleric was having lev run out (love the new buff timers) and being stuck on top of library with no lev. On the very last combine SoE went just out of the library and I had to walk down the stairs (waah). Good luck and thanks for the info.

If you're a wizard or druid its even easier... bind at Grimel, memorize Gate and Knowledge Gate. Knowledge Gate puts you only a short run from a forge. Then Gate back to Grimel and start again.

This gets your smithing to 227, not 226.

My int and wis are 355 with rezz effects on.. so I bound at aid grimmel and then jumped down the shaft, died, drug corpse over to the forge and had my cleric rezz. So, "I am well versed in the art of smithing", rezz, combine, gate, repeat just rezzing the same corpse. Works for 3 hours =P

I went through 89 acid washes getting from 221 to 227. All the flying around PoK was tiring but ok.

Back to farming shadowscream now, and I wish I could fly around PoK instead. Well, 12 skillups left till magic 240 now...

What flag do you need to do this? I've done TT, Carpin, and KoS/Saryrn in open raids, but haven't found a raid doing Bert yet. I just hit 222, and would love to farm that many fewer wailing/shrieking substances. Will I be able to do this yet, or is it Hollowshade for me?

                              From Alla's

Aid Grimel is located at the top of the elevator in the Library in the Plane of Knowledge. Before you hail him, you must be flagged both from killing Bertoxxulous and rescuing Mylik and Adler. You must also have an unmodified skill of 220 in Blacksmithing.

Which basically means you need to kill Berty to be able to get Grimel to talk to you for the smithing part.
