I was unable to do this combine with a smithing skill of163. When i equipped my geerlock i was able to do the combine. So you can make this with a geerlock and alower skill to get skill ups
That's correct. EVB has a required modified skill of 165, which means you can do them at 165 natural skill or 158 natural skill +5% (like a geerlok). You can do them earlier if you have a +10% or +15% smithing item.

i start at 195 couple days ago farmed some pieces got bored just went and buyed it here it go
25 combines 3 points very happy
36 combines 0 point unhappy
80 combines 1 point depressed
looking at other ppl numbers something is wrong
i dont use geerlok or my frost hammer = 20% and my stats are caped int 355 etc i even change the forge LOL but same thing
Sounds like the rng to me; you got quite lucky with 3 skill ups in 25 combines, and less lucky after. But it's still evening out to a fairly reasonable number.
I figure my average with enchanted velium bits at 355 wisdom is about 1 skill up per 30 combines.
I found I did get a bit better skill up ratio through my 190s and early 200s with LDoN smithing.
well i'm happy did some other 50+ combines got me to 202 so i have quite few seal's on my stock i tried the Trophy with my 15% hammer and tada sucess on trophy i wish i could ding 222 so i get my signet very soon
I've done these for a very short time, and I only had enough spells for 50 chances. My STR was 231.
189 - 18
190 - 30
I had 2 tries at 191, and did not skill up at all. My success rate, on the other hand, has been quite nice (even though they are lore and I only have 1.) Something like 60% or so. I wish it was the other way around.
It took me about 170 combines to go from 163 to 188, and the cost was around 600pp.
305 INT
Went from 185 to 220 on EVB (211, 212 was done with ethereal sheets). Although I do not have the exact stats, I averaged more than 1 skillup per 20 combines. I was very pleased.
I know it is unproven, but I get fully shammy buffs before I do combines now. Statistically I'm sure there is no difference, but in my mind I feel like I get better skillups. And since it is all about keeping the mind happy (so it doesn't "mind" doing all the coldain velium temper subcombines) the 50 plat I pay for shammy buffs seems trivial. =)

I found the tempers for sale in the bazaar for 10pp each. I thought that was a good price (I recall seeing someone here mention that they cost around that to make yourself) so I bought 800 of them. I hope that's enough to take me to 222. Any left over, will go back up for sale in the bazaar (with a slight markup of course. )
I checked the Test server and the CVT's were on the vendor again, though i don't know if they were player sold, or vendor sold, but they wre going for 5pp with 125 something cha. just lettin gyou know what it means, i hope they will be vendor sold again
