      • I did almost all my combines for this recipe in PoK. I did not try the recipe in an old world forge.

          • This might come out a little rantish, I hope not..

People on my server are now selling small pieces of velium for 200-400pp each. Obviously its an attempt to cash in on this newest way to skillup in smithing. It is however wrecking havoc on my attempts at skilling up in tailoring.

I had 10+ stacks of wyvern hides stocked up and was just about to be prepared to bazaar farm small pieces of velium only to discover they are going at prices way beyond the price I paid for wyvern hides. Also, it seems like every available block of velium, large brick of velium, small brick of velium have all been chiselled down into small pieces of velium. All in all, this new recepie has just made the lives of tailors living hell.

            • Don't see that on cazic right now a stack is for sale for 30p each. keep in mind that combining a small brick of velium with a chisel in a forge will yield 2 small pieces. This is a very good thing to do when small bricks are close to the same price of the pieces.

              • Skilling up

I became a little worried over the fact that nurffs do happen, and most often when Im at work. So I rushed home last night and gathered up my small pieces and settled in for a smithing binge.

To continue on from my previous combine stats post....

8 stacks of Coldain Velium Temper (bought @20pp per = 3200pp)
16 stacks of Small Velium Pieces (farmed myself= freebie)
                160 Spell:Enchant Velium (bought @ 12.5p = 2000pp)

                160 Combines
                12 Skill ups (205-217)
                Percentage of Skill Up 7.5%
                **(12x100)/160=7.5
                Total Cost 5200pp
                No Skill % increasing device

                Stats:
                STR 275
                WIZ 270
                INT 144
(*both dex and agil were over 200 as well thanks to Shaman buffs)

                NOTES:
I noticed that after a while my success rate was improving. After speaking with some other smiths who are doing this combine, the rate does seem to increase the closer you get to 220. Again, my eye-ball estimate is that you should expect 1 skill up per stack of temper pre skill 210. Post 210, expect approximately 1.5 skill ups per stack.

Total cost for me so far going from 198-217 is 6500+5200=11,700pp (approx). This is not bad. Keeping in mind that if I had done shadowscreen or Dwarf Cultural, it would have been more of a time sink then sanity would allow, and more expensive. Enchanting all that brellium is expensive and a royal pain in the Dains seat.

I only have 3 more skill ups to go, tonight ill farm another 4 stacks of small pieces of veilum and hit 220. As a casual player and a casual TS'er, I can tell you that after 4 years of smithing my goal of reaching 250 is finnaly within reach.

Edit: with 400 combines needed to get 22 skill ups (198-220) my overall percentage was a 5.5% skill up ratio. (22x100)/400=5.5

Edit: Corrected price of spell, corrected cost calculations

                • I thought the Enchant Velium spell was 12.5pp not 21.5.

                  Did the price go up?

doh - maybe a typo on my part. 12.5 sounds right to me. **** my fast fingers.

                      • I skilled up using this recipe from 209 to 215 using skill modifier. I will continue using this recipe until trivial as soon as I can acquire more Velium.

                        • I've noticed that some people have posted skill ups on November 23, 2003. Well, I had 183 skill and some velium and tempers lying around, so when my boyfriend mentioned the vendor was back up, I went ahead and tried it.

Got my skill to 185 before I decided to go ahead and gather up some velium and use the left over tempers I made for the 8th shawl step a bit ago.

Got about 6 stacks of small pieces, bought a bunch of spells, and set down to do some combining

                          Of course... it's trivial.

So, two tidbits. I am on The Nameless, so I'm not sure if the trivial is applicable for other servers...

                          1) It trivials at 185.

                          2) The spell sells back for 2pp and some change =P So if you buy a 1000pp worth of spells, you get back a whooping 170pp!

                          3) (I'm throwing this one in for giggles) Don't be excitable. It just leads you down the path of disappointment. Or... if you're gonna test, test past two skill ups~

Also, to make sure there isn't any confusion, the receipe I used:

                          2 small velium pieces
                          1 Spell: Enchant Velium
                          1 Coldain Velium Temper
                          Combined in a forge

                          • I did 20 combines using this recipe today on my shaman. Skillups to 212, 213, 214. So unless they changed the trivial after I did those combines, it doesn't trivial at 185.

                            • I skilled up on this recipe up to 222, on 24-nov between 2 and 3 am in FV server.

Got 7 skillups in 45 combines... and I was complaining about the RNG a week ago!
