  • Skillups rate

I have been using this website heavily for a while now working on smithing. I say Thank you to all of you, you have provided increadible information.

I have a general sense of this question but wanted to really see what people are getting.

What is the Rate of skillups.
example 1 for every 20 combines

my latest was 60 combines with LDoN plate armors.
    I started at skill 194. I made 4 skillups to 198. So

    4 per 60 attempts is latest .

If you have gone from 188 to 212,or some combination of this, using the new LDoN recipies. How many did it take?

    char info...
Ogre SK lvl 56 Str 255 + with HoS.
    using Gearlock hammer

    *EDIT 10/10/03
    Well , there is hope.
    starting skill 198
    76 combines zero skillup
    7 combines 199
    2 combines 200
    11 combines still 200.

The "Rate of Skill Ups" is a subject of much debate and anguish.

The best answer to that question is --

    * It depends on the vagaries of the RNG.
    * You can maximize your chances for skill-ups in ways already discussed at length elsewhere.

I smith for fun and profit now. Smithing for skillups isn't fun, and costs too much. Come the end of a long night of smithing, I'll look at my skill, (and I'll usually have STR maxxed for the evening) and see if I've gotten a skillup, but I don't really dwell on it.

        Skill up rates

I did a mass zerg on 200 with Ldon Tempers from 188. I used about 130 tempers so I had a skill up rate of about 1:11.

I started on 200+ smithin with another 160 Tempers. I only had time to combine 17 tempers so far before i had to raid last night and got one skill up. 1:17. I so not expect the ratio to get much better, but we'll see once i get to do the rest.

My Wisdom was at 305 for all attempts

Sharing my run to help those wondering if LDoN smithing would be good for them.

Here is the run I did last night (265 str/218 wis)

          Starting skill: 195
          16 combines: 196
          23 combines: 197
          9 combines: 198
          1 combine: 199
          10 combines: 200
          10 combines: 201
          49 combines: 202

Total: 118 combines, 1 skill up per 16,8 combines and costed me about 22k pp.

Did pretty much any kind of LDoN theme set (mira, mmc, ruj, tak)

Did Plate boot, belt and pauldron until 196.

Did Plate gauntlets, vambraces, helm and field splinted cloak for the rest.

I think skill up rates past 188 probably have a set percentage, but the amount you have to do to find that percentage is massive.
For me it has been close to 22 attempts per skill up.
I would say most people average around that.

              Kharadras...22k?

I was wondering if you could elaborate on your cost of those 118 attempts. You have said it cost you 22k for the 118 attempts.. that is 186.44pp per attempt. Depending on your recipe, costs should have been significantly lower imho. Superb leather padding is about 24pp, the block of medium quality ore is about 21pp or 42pp for 2 sheet recipes, toss in some water and a mold for 3-20pp and that totals about 48pp to 85pp per attempt.

At worst if you sell the completed pieces back to the vendor, you should get a decent return on successes.

If you are buying all of your tempers, I can see it costing that much. If you are looting all of your temper pieces, then I am curious to know where you are spending the other 101-138pp per attempt. I have found it to be much less expensive and would love to see you save some serious pp.

                Superb leather padding: 25pp
                2 blocks : 40pp
                Temper : 100-150pp so let's say I bought them all at 125pp.

                Total : 22 420pp

In bazaar (Karana) people sell what I made from like 100pp to 800pp so I decided to dump everything at 250pp and in 3 years I might have sold everything I made and almost all the money back :P

Buying Tempers is the way to go if you can afford it and totally explains the rest of the cost.

I have tried to save pp because I still have smithing 212-220, Pottery 200+ and Fletching 200+ which will cost a ton of pp, so I've been doing more Ldon adventures and asking friends to save me their temper pieces.

I appriciate those telling me how hard theirs were.
It pains us hearing those that did better.

Last night I finally got up to 76 tempers. ZERO skillups
Im still stuck at 198, that is about 90 attempts at 198.

well, back to the dungeons for another 2 weeks or so for next batch.

                        Thanks again.

                          Skillups

I blew all my raid points on Gauntlets of Dark Embers last week since my smithing was revving at 191 and I really didn't relish spending that much more time doing extra shadowscream or even LDoN stuff, though that is infinitely better.

After getting to 192 (+15% to be able to try), I started making ethereal metal rings, trivial 212.

                          First run: 32 tries, 5 skillups(!), 197
                          Second run: 64 tries, 0 skillups, 197
                          Third run: 100 tries, 5 skillups, 202
                          Fourth run: 10 tries, 3 skillups, 205

So you can see it's been mighty streaky. This is with 280 str/wis, so far I'm getting a raise on average every 16 tries.

                              2nd LDoN smithing run

Sharing my second smithing run making LDoN armor:

                              Starting skill : 202
                              11 combines : 203
                              7 combines : 204
                              7 combines : 205
                              27 combines : 206
                              19 combines : 207
                              3 combines : 208
                              10 combines : 209
                              1 combine : 210

                              Total : 85 combines = 1 skill up every 10,6 combines.

Then used like 100 brick of ethereal energy to get to 212.
