It's a lot shorter to be able to say '[message here] PST vallon.[charname]' than 'if interested, please sent a tell to vallon.[charname]'. Less on screen to have to process.
'Tells to XXX' sufficed for this before that dreadful PST meme took root.

And yes, sometimes people will ask in /ooc how much, or what have you, because it's shorter. And, if you are in pok and advertising an item/service without a price, /ooc how much also prompts you to reply in /ooc, thus educating the whole zone. In a sense, you 'should' have said your price to the zone as a whole in the first place, and since you did not, you need a nudging to do so.
I'm confused. If you're stupid enough to not uses PST then you are stupid enough not to include a price when you should? If someone is stupid enough not to send you a tell if they are interested in your service, everyone benefits from an OOC pricing discussion? Something else?

    Digression:

Someone on the SK boards suggested using DBAM instead of PST, that is, "Don't Be A Moron". Let's face it, if someone doesn't have the knowledge of EQ the know to send a tell because lots of people have various channels turned off, are they really going to know what PST means? Thus, I consider PST a redundant waste of typing time. Certainly it's not a significant amount of time, but nonetheless.

    Again, consider the following:
    /auc WTB KEI PST
-hotkey- /ooc KEI AT PoT stone for donations

Now, are you really not going to take KEI because the enchanter didn't send you a personal tell to inform you he was selling. Really? If you mosey over to the PoT stone and get KEI after seeing that macro, then WHY THE HELL DID YOU PUT PST THERE? Habit? All the cool people use PST?

Uh... no. Because if you are selling something, then the customer has the PLAT which YOU want. You believe your service will get them to part with their plat. If you didn't want plat, then you wouldn't be selling, would you? You'd be giving stuff away for free.

Fortunately, a quick glance on the bazaar spam shows me that PST is dying a peaceful, or not so peaceful, who can say, death on stormhammer at any rate.

      Closing.

The original point of the thread has long been made.

The debate over the use of certain abbreviations more properly belongs in the Primal Scream Room.
