Breastplate Cleansing for skill?

I got lucky last night. I finally got a Bertoxx kill and was able to start the quest. I decided to make a stack of Acid Wash and try for some skillups before I made a finished Breastplate. Bound myself at Aid Grimel, cast Lev on myself, got a filty BP, and went to the forge. First 2 combines..

Just for clarity, you cannot do this for skill ups until you hit 220 correct? The reason is that he won't give you the breatsplate until you meet the minimum smithing skill requirement?

Unless you already have the flags needed then I would not look to this as a skill up option. That was my plan and now I'm at 244 and still unflagged.

You have to have an unmodified 220. So far as I know, it's still possible. I'm going to try to get the flag by the time I hit 220 ... at 213 now, so don't know how feasible that is.

I just did this. After farming my way to 220, I enlisted the help of a guildie friend mage who parked at the 3 forge area in PoK. I bound myself at Grimel. I'd gate, hit my macro to have him give me a bp. As soon as gate went off, my mage friend would start casting CoH. Skillups seemed to average 1/25 and it took about 45 mins to get 4 skillups. Then I ran out of acid wash. I bought the celestial essence in bulk in bazaar for 3.5plat a piece and plan to finish up to 227 this way, then.... *sigh* go back to SS.

As a 65 Necro, cash is not a problem, and with a helpful mage around(Thanks Tanadarr) this was quite a pleasant change from SS for at least a little while.

I highly recommend going this route if you can bind/gate for 220-227 if ya can.

I did this as well to 227. I used a variant of the methods described here.

I bound myself and my druid at Grimel, and had a wizard parked at the forge to trans me back.

The cycle was hit the evac key on the druid, hit the macro to ask grimel for a breast plate, wait to load up at the safe point in zone, druid gates, I run to the forge, wizard hits the hot key with /tar and /cast trans, do the combine, click yes to trans, repeat.

It seemed like skilling up was no longer possible when I went 140 combines without a skill up, but then the RNG woke up and I got 3 skillups on the same screen in the chat window.

All in all I averaged a skillup every 30 combines, which is not too bad considering a cost of about 12 pp per attempt.

How? Modifiers are ignored when he hands you the breastplate, so having the +15% hammer is utterly useless.

I imagine on FV the breastplate is not No Drop, meaning a 220+ smith with flags gets the BP from Grimel and then hands it to the lower smith, who then does the combine.

I did this starting at 224 last night. Only took me 35 combines to get to 227. Was quite happy.
I was bound at Grimal and had levitate so I just ran/floated down to the forge, combined, then gated back for another BP. Only took about 20 seconds per combine.

Did 22 combines, gained one point so far doing this so I'm at 221. As a non-binding non-gate-casting (not counting expensive potions) class, this really stinks, but I'm going to stick with it. These skillups will cost me next to nothing (made all the acid wash myself, too.). After I hit 227 I have almost 3 full stacks of shadowscream stuff I can combine, which will hopefully get me 230.

ok this looks like a good way to cheply make 7 skill points my query is this. i'm not flagged for any planar stuff other then the quest manuels. i'm a 54 bst. what do i need ot do in order to get flagged for the acid wash part? i know nothing aobut planar combat/travelling :<
