There's a concept introduced in Frozen Throne that offered up an entire way to alter spells such as making them less cost efficient for more damage and ect.
While an interesting concept in and of itself, there's little reality it'd ever be used given precedence within the game. However, the precedence of a system to "edit" older spells through research gives a new window to class restructuring.
Specific spells often used regardless of level:
1. Auras
2. Specific buffs (DMF, ect)
So let's take a hypothetical example:
Bob's Aura
+10 Hp
A Bobmancer researches the base spell. Then Shirley the Necromancer gets ahold of Bob's Aura, applies some deathly magicks to it and transforms it into:
Bob's Corrupted Aura
+5 HP +10 Poisin Resist
So Shirley the Necromancer can interact with Bobmancers to create new products to sell or help the guild. Of course this a simple explanation without obvious hurdles such as quests to be able to make altered spells.
So Bobmancers can choose to use either Bob's Aura or Bob's Corrupted Aura depending on zone/encounters. There could also be specific barriers to use such altered spells such as requiring a quest, AA, or flag.
