  • Corrupting/Editing Old Spells into New Spells

There's a concept introduced in Frozen Throne that offered up an entire way to alter spells such as making them less cost efficient for more damage and ect.

While an interesting concept in and of itself, there's little reality it'd ever be used given precedence within the game. However, the precedence of a system to "edit" older spells through research gives a new window to class restructuring.

Specific spells often used regardless of level:

    1. Auras
    2. Specific buffs (DMF, ect)

So let's take a hypothetical example:

    Bob's Aura

    +10 Hp

A Bobmancer researches the base spell. Then Shirley the Necromancer gets ahold of Bob's Aura, applies some deathly magicks to it and transforms it into:

    Bob's Corrupted Aura

    +5 HP +10 Poisin Resist

So Shirley the Necromancer can interact with Bobmancers to create new products to sell or help the guild. Of course this a simple explanation without obvious hurdles such as quests to be able to make altered spells.

So Bobmancers can choose to use either Bob's Aura or Bob's Corrupted Aura depending on zone/encounters. There could also be specific barriers to use such altered spells such as requiring a quest, AA, or flag.

There are already AA's that alter the damage of spells at the expense of requiring more mana for a short time, so this idea would tend to step on the AA system a bit.

As well, it has been said on quite a few occasions that every item, spell and recipe in EQ requires a certain amount of information to be stored in a 'database' type entity, so to even allow spells to be altered in only one particular fashion (which is not what you are asking, as there is little use to only allowing spells to be changed in one way) would double the size of the spells in the list.

Your idea is certainly an interesting one and it would be unique to be able to custom make your spells within certain parameters, but the way EQ is said to work, your idea is not possible.

Well, there are a few recipes in game that do "alter" the base spell. They are few and far between though and as far as I know, none of them are research recipes.

If you are looking for a precedent the various PoP diamond imbuing spells would serve. An example would be Imbue Nightmare.

I am not sure what kind of mechanism Frozen Thrown uses for these Corrupted Spells, but in EQ it would require that the Spell Dev to create the new Corrupted Spell data and then the Tradeskill Dev to create the recipe.
