The Future of Research

Ngreth has announced that around the time that the SoF expansion presents (in November 2007) the many forms of research will be consolidated into one method, the newest one sometimes called Systemic Research. This is a method in which any caster class can research for not only their own class by all other classes including other caster classes.

With old methods research of some spells was limited to creation by the class for which the spell was intended. Therefore, in my collection of alts, I have trained both my Necromancer and my Enchanter to some proficiency in Research. This training becomes expensive.

So, with eye to the future, I am wondering, for the sake of research alone and not to tallying a number of trophies for them, whether only one of these alts needs continued training.

Unless you want to continue researching on both of them for the joy of it, you will opnly need one to actually persue it to get your spells for both classes.

I will not promise the NEVER make any class unique things for spell research, but I certainly have no plans for doing so.

Another "future research" question I've been wondering about is whether the expected changes around SoF time will obsolete the newer recipes (61+). Mainly I'm wondering so that I make sure to use all my current components before they're not useful anymore. Thanks for any feedback.

The 61+ research parchments use the "systematic spell research system" which is what everything is being consolidated to. So in theory all those parchments should still be usable. The consolidation is to get rid of all the words of XXX and rune of XXX and partial pages and crap that are in from LoY and old world. It clears up the mobs drop tables as well as unifies the whole research system =)

I am not clearing the old drops yet. It is just too time consuming at this time. And I have not made 100% decision on disabling the old rune/word/page/etc recipies imidiately. but they will be going.

Basicly just curious. I came back to the game after 3 years off. Started off brand new, and am now in need of getting the stuff for my level 22 and up mage pets and stuff.

This system is already in place for spells post 61.

This change will convert all existing spell recipes for lvl 1-60 spells to this new system.

So I will be able to research some spells that are currently mage only, necro only etc...?

Got a guildy that wants the mage 47-49 pet spells...

As far as I have heard, any int caster with the appropriate research skill should be able to make any researchable spell for any class.

There may be one or 2 exceptions ... but I cant think of any.

So I don't have to use up all my old runes and pages before SOF release? The past couple of days I have been making as many spells as I can with my old spell reserach stuff so that they did not go to waste like some of my cultural armor stuff did when I ran out of time when that change went live.

Thanks for the confirmation Ngreth. Looks like I will continue to make a lot of spells before the release next week. Will the spell scrolls I make still be able to be scribed after the changes go live next week? I have 5 Remove Greater Curses I made last night that I don't want to go to waste.
