  • Research Skillups Better, But What About Products?

    Hi all,

I'm not an int caster by heart, so I'm looking for opinions from more knowledgable folks than I. In bringing up my little necro, mage and wizard (who aren't so little anymore as they are in their 50s), I've noticed that acquiring their spells has become increasingly difficult. Not many are vendor sold and some never seem to come up for sale in the Bazaar. In researching where spells drop or where the components for spells drop, it gets even more discouraging as the spells seem to be rare drops or a specific component is either very rare or rare AND used in a "more important or profitable" spell.

I know the DoDh research revamp has really added a nice way to increase the research skill (which wasn't really needed so much before as you could train). And you now don't have to rely on PoP or GoD raids/groups to get spells for 61-65. But it seems that the 40-60 region has gotten ignored completely and with Velious and particularly Luclin being less and less populated, this will only continue to get worse. I worry that the powers that be will say that research has been revamped and is now working, when in fact there is a huge hole in int caster progression. And let's face it, int casters without their new spells basically just make good scratching posts for mobs.

Are others who are bringing up int caster alts (or mains!) seeing the same thing?

I would say "yes", because I sell tons of spells in the bazaar that I research.

Many of the 51-60 spells use the LoY system, and shouldn't be all that hard to get some of them done. But you need skill, or know somebody in your class who can do the combine.

Spells have always been an issue for caster classes. We spend all kinds of time and money trying to load up our spell book. It's a very long process. You could go months looking for a particular spell before getting it.

Ah, but I seem to be always missing ONE ingredient for any of the LoY combines and seem extremely rare to hope for farming them or even to find in the bazaar. Since you make a lot of your spells, I assume that you are seeing the same thing. I have several toons full of research components but realistically, they will never get used because there is always one ingredient that is the stumbling block.

In some sense, it is what makes the PoR combines much easier...there is only one "rare" drop you need... the rest is just time for combines (well, the saltpeter can be a pain, but at least it's much more plentiful).
