You can start training, but only the starting city trainers teach research. Of course, since you won't get skill ups right now its not really worth starting till they fix that.

Necro Spell Research Bugged?

With all the higher level spells being unresearchable I kind of wonder what was the point of researching in the first place... I guess I could go farm words for rare spells and [strike]rip off[/strike] sell to other players in the baz...Originally posted by BobatenYou can start training, but only the starting city trainers teach research. The way things are just now with research I'd happily be ripped off if just one person would take the effort to make and sell the mage pets right now. I can't get my level 34 fire pet by research because I can't raise my skill enough to make it and I can't buy it for love nor money. And things just get worse from there on in.Originally posted by XislabenI guess I could go farm words for rare spells and [strike]rip off[/strike] sell to other players in the baz...
At the moment we are looking at a lot of crippled mid level int casters because we are completely unable to get a large chunk of our research only spells no matter how much money we have banked.
Pig sick of trying to farm raw-hide armor for the practice runes - what a PITA that route is. Wouldn't mind if the product was worth the effort but farming vendor trash to make more vendor trash in the hope of a skillup is just depressing and not why I made my mage alt. Thank goodness I had my mains research maxed a long while ago.

I just looked at the mage pet you mentioned. Mage combinable only, sucks. Had I known when I started that the combines were so class limited I may have opted to avoid the skill in the first place. But I completely agree that the lower level characters are suffering now. I never got the nec spells Demi Lich or Dead Men Floating due to lack of a raiding guild or farming groups. I might be able to solo the words now perhaps, but the spells no longer have much value to me, and Dead Men was really desirable solely for a neat group buff. Funeral Pyre of Mori however I could try to combine and sell for oodles, as a very nice dot at lvl 60, it's rare and casual players won't see it without paying a great deal or having well guilded friends.Originally posted by KakgThe way things are just now with research I'd happily be ripped off if just one person would take the effort to make and sell the mage pets right now. I seriously doubt I will do research on any other class I roll, it's just too much of a pita now, and I can grind past the spells I miss, or farm a great deal to purchase the ones I need. Both would probably be faster.Last edited by Xislaben; 04-22-2005, 04:41 PM.

Before all the Tradeskill changes and without any AA I did about 25-30 level 60 combines without one fail (200 skill + 10% Robe). Now after the change and with Arcane Tongues 2 I got 3 fails on 16 combines. It could be bad luck but I cant believe it.Irrarr Baking 300+15%+M3, Brewing 300+15%+M3, Pottery 300+15%+M3, Jewelery 300+15%+M3, Fletching 300+15%+M3, Tailoring 300+15%+M3, Smithing 300+15%+M3, Spell Research 300+15%+M3, Salvage 3
Zarall Alchemy 300+15%+M3, Smithing 300+12%+M3, Tailoring 300+12%+M3, Salvage 3
Gwean Tinkering 300+15%+M3, Salvage 3
Yatren Making Poison 300+15%+M3, Research 300+12%, Salvage 3

Eventually got my level 34 mage pet just before the recent patch went in.
My tactic..... buy three stacks of words of coercion from the bazaar, ran out to East Commonlands 3rd inn to buy up two stacks of Breath of Solosek and one of Breath of Marr then kept my fingers crossed that the RNG would smile on me. After 60 combines of 122 trivialled items at a starting skill of 35 I did manage to make the two scrolls that I needed to research. How many skillups? 2.
I have since repeated the exercise for the level 39 researched pets after the patch and confirmed the the skillups were much more acceptable. My mage is now at a skill of 85.
My recommendation? Forget the training runes, they are a total waste of time. By the cheapest spell components you can get in bulk from the bazaar and strong arm the spell combines that way. It's not pretty and not a practice I'd recommend for rare spell components but it's a lot easier than mucking about with training runes.Last edited by Kakg; 04-26-2005, 11:27 AM.

My baby Nec is level 24, and has been for 2 weeks. Why hasn't she gone past 24? Because I haven't been able to beg, borrow, steal, or successfully research my 24 pet spell. With the bazaar being low population on my server lately, Words have been rather thin on the ground there. I have gone vendor diving EVERY night, doing all of PoK, Guild Hall, Magus' at the camps, and any others that strike me as potential resources, whereever I may be on another toon. I have killed Shadowed Men, Woolly Mammoths, and the moon men in Shadeweaver's until I think I may go insane, trying to get Words of Detachment. I have done Research with the Nec, with any words I may find, regardless of the trivial, so long as it is above where I am at with it. Most have been in the 62-122 range, as those are what I run across most commonly. In two weeks, after HUNDREDS of combines, I have gotten from skill level 50 to skill level 58-and have 2-count 'em-2 Words of Detachment from farming. My Int is 228, on a level 24, so that is not the problem. I have had 9 successes out of all those research combines. I am not risking the Detachments until I am past the trivial level for the spell (61), as they have been just too hard to find. And even then, I am going to be doing some pretty heavy praying to Bertoxx
On an up note, my Beastlord has gone from 39 to 43 in the last couple of nights, because I am so sick of vendor diving on the Nec, and farming with my 57 Druid
I shudder to think how long it would take if I were trying to get the components she needs with just the Nec, considering how slow it is to skill up now, and how UNsuccessful the combines have been. This is the kind of thing that frustrates players new to EQ, and can be so discouraging that they up and quit, thinking the whole game is this difficult.

Sorry, forgot to add-Allakhazam's lists Shadowed Men, Woolly Mammoths, and a few others as having Words of Detachment as drops. I have yet to get any from either of those; both copies I have, I have gotten from the Shak Dratha and the Gor Tok(sp?) in the Shadeweaver's caverns, which Alla's Doesn't list. I got the first one there accidentally, while farming Condensed Shadow for the druids' fletching. Got the 2nd one last night, same place, doing the same thing. One off of each race. I HAVE seen Quillmane up 4 times in the last week, however, while going to the Shadowed camp in SK. No one in zone, so I didn't bother killing him, though
Waste of a good pop:/
