  • Necro Spell Research Bugged?

Has anyone else lost the ability to research on their necro. I have a 24 necro, who can not do any atm.

Is research one of those things you have to level to move onto the next lvl of research?

Do you mean you cannot train research at your guild master?

If so, then that's not a bug. It was a change to the system to allow Maddoc to consider research a "true tradeskill." At the same time, the level cap was removed, and the skill cap was raised to 300. So you could train research all the way to 300 (well 227 currently, because of the recipes available) at level 16, when you first learn it.

I've been doing combines without problem on my necro (other than the problem of getting components, of course).

I tried to put more points into research and the guildmaster said that I knew more than him and how could he train me. (was at 64 at the time) hhehe. So you cannot put more points into it. Unless.............. ................it really is broke.....

Nope, not broken, that's the way it is now, you cannoty use training points past skill of 21, now Spell Research is a "real" tradeskill

I'm confident that we'll get a trophy at some point, now that we can't buy our way up to max skill. It may take a while, but I can wait

I do hope Maddoc implements new recipes with higher trivials soon though, so we can skill up past 227

Hiya's... I started playing again and rolled a Necro. When I went to the trainer to add a single point to the research skill I couldn't. It just isn't on the list of abilities to train in, at least when I looked yesterday. Is this something I get when I hit level 20, as I recall my Enchanter got the skill at 16.

Well, it appears that there is more than just my inability to train in research that is borked. I cannot save spell sets on this toon but can on my other ones. I confirmed that last night on several of my other toons.

Went to the home city trainer and got the research training ability there. Then like a fool I burned up pages in a futile effort to create my level 20 spells. Now I know why they go for 1k in the Bazaar.

Now I'm just vendor diving and saving what I find for when they fix the skill up issue.

Could be something as simple as having flagged one of your character Ini files with Read-Only status (ie copying it from a CD rom will often do this since its flagged as readonly on a CD).

There are really two parts to this.

                          1) You can't use training points at your GM to increase your research past a certain point any more (think its 25, could be wrong). However they haven't fixed this yet and so no-one can start training because the option to start isn't even there at the moment.

                          2) As has been said elsewhere on these forums the recent patch of 12 April completely borked all low level skillups so even if you were able to train your first point you wouldn't get any skillups from tradeskill practice any way.

At the moment the reality is that all low level casters are completely snafu'd in relation to research. Something needs to be done about this soon or a lot of people are gonig to get very frustrated and give up on research as a skill before they even have a chance to get very far.

I have to agree. I have stopped researching. I have just been hoarding my words and making spells for my lower level necro guild mates. I am getting my words together for my level 49 spells atm and it sucks. I dont want to waste my words and have not gained any points with combines since the patch.

yeah, I had to stop reasearching which is enough to make baby jesus cry.. dang patch!
Not only that, but I decided since the undead DD spells are way more mana efficient now that I'd actually try to get my evocation up. BUT I CAN'T! dang patch!
