I found shawl 5 to be the most difficult so far. I started attempting to gather the biles several months ago and at times it took almost 200 shardwurms to obtain a single glowing bile: since nothing was glowing, kill them all to make them spawn with glowingness. In the past few days, while trying to wrap up or delete long-unfinished quest items, I managed to obtain enough biles to get shawl 5 on 2 characters. My theory is that the drop rate on the biles has been significantly increased. My shaman has not leveled significantly in the last few months, so that is not a mitigating factor (that the char is more powerful and able to kill more faster).

Shawl 6 is miserably annoying, to have 4-6 hours worth of farming green mobs go poof in a single "you lack the skill" is very disheartening. Not quite as bad as shawl 5 and spending days in the zone killing everything that moved and still not get a single bile.

I do not know if I will bother with shawl 8 for either character.

I didn't find collecting the biles particularly difficult; it only took me about 2-3 hours to get the biles. Though I was able to see an obvious glow at night, so about half the time I wasn't just killing any wurm I found. (That notwithstanding, I actually got three of the biles during the day, the first two within the first ten wurms I killed.)

Getting the threads has mostly just been a matter of getting a group, which meant I needed to level several times before I could make a serious run at them, but I've now got most of the threads I need, and I'm only the siren hairs short of all I need for the 6th shawl. (And I'm hoping tailoring in the 180s will be enough to keep me from having to hunt all the stuff again...)

This quest is one of the reasons I love Fironia Vie.

Do people sell them in the Bazaar? 10000000000000000000pp?

(Of course then you would get the undercutters 9999999999999999999pp 5g).

Both the threads and the bile are indeed no drop. And since the No Drop tag is removed on nearly(?) everything on FV...
The fifth shawl is proving to be a pain for me. No native invis spell (paladin), thus I can't really even move around in VL and ask if I can loot unwanted threads (unless I want to blow 10 plat a pop). And grouping doesn't seem to be a popular thing in this zone right now.
I finally managed to get a group last night, but after I screwed up the group SK's FD attempt (didn't realize that's what he was doing during a pull and tossed a stun to gain agro as the mob came in - only then did he feign, and then the other mobs came into view), and then trained the zone out while heading back up (invis is your friend - please cast it on those group members that don't have it...), the group broke up.
              (wonder why...?)
And there were two other people in the group working on the shawl, so even the few threads that I did see were mostly snapped up by others.

I actually was looking at what was for sale in teh bazaar (tho i dont normally play on FV, just messin around on an alt) and, yup... Blessed Shawl for sale (2 of em in fact)... 150kpp I was rather taken aback. I think ring #9 was like 50k as well, maybe only 40k. And definitely 40k on the Bracers of Benevolence. I was drooling.

Heh. 150K is much less than the billions I was suggesting. I suppose that once you are in the 1750 club the quest becomes a bit easier, plus with the knowledge you have you can probably do it the second time a bit quicker. Even so, I'm not sure 150K is really worth the trouble. If we could sell em on the regular servers I know that I would charge much more than 150K.

I'm trying to get my mind around the idea of MQing the 8th shawl. I'm only an enchanter, so I'm probably missing something.

When I finished my 8th shawl walk with the Dwarf General, the Giant Dwarf stands in the fire and I hand him my 7th shawl. Nothing else, so that turn in cannot be MQed. I have to have the 7th before I can get the 8th. Of course, the turn ins to get the General off his duff can be done by someone else. I wouldn't actually have to do the smithing. The person doing the smithing would also have to have the 7th shawl (or possibly have done multiples of the Dain part, stopping at the various stages).

Some of the other parts can be MQed or purchased (heads and toes can be purchased, baking can be MQed. Probably the fourth can also be MQed).

Actually, the 8th shawl was suprisingly easy. I have a mid-fifties druid who is bound in WW and loves to play with the velium hounds. I think I have over 2 stacks of the furs, not including the 15 or 16 I used for the shawl. I went to WL with a lvl 57/58 warrior and shaman. We easily pulled until I got all the gems I wanted. Experience was not good, but we turned on AA, so at least it would look like something. My smithing was mid 170s, so I worked it up to 180 and didn't get a failure.

Firiona Vie server, almost everything is tradable there, as are the shawls according to someone who plays there.

As far as the difficulty of doing the quests, they are insanely time consuming and expensive to do, but, I am working on number 8 now, and, in time, I will get there. My biggest problem is that I can't track, so finding the hounds is very tedious.

I enjoy tradeskills but tailoring and smithing scare me. I was rereading the quest, and realized my cleric already has the skills needed to get through the fourth shawl, and even most of what she needs, but I'm afraid to start since then I'll feel I can't stop. Reading this thread reminds me of why I haven't started yet

The 7th shawl was a major incentive for me to work on tailoring. The 8th shawl was a major incentive to work on smithing. At the moment the Grimel quest is my incentive to work all my skills up.

To be perfectly frank, I can't see any real profit in trade skills unless you spend a lot of time trading, the farmers have learnt that they can charge absurd prices for drops used for skilling up. The tradeskill quests have added a lot to the game though.

At the time it was introduced, the 8th shawl was a very nice item, especially as it was available to anyone with the dedication needed. I expect the final earring from Grimel to be on a similar scale to the 130/140 hp earrings dropping in the elemental planes. Does it take a lot of time and effort to get theses things? Well yes!

Doh, I really should read these things more carefully. Well I am working on shawl 7 now so I feel like I can't give up.

Interesting point about having someone else hand in the Approved issuing box to the General to start the event. I wonder what that would be worth.
