6th Shawl. (Primal Scream warning)

I've gathered all the pieces for 7th and 8th shawl. I have made most combines. (Lack gems for the 8th one, and lack a pattern for the 7th)

I feel good.

Now, however. I am stuck on the 6th. Started camping the drakkel dire wolves in GD (around spires). Killed about 150 of them (according to my logs). Not one single whisker yet.

And this is trivial compared to getting siren hairs? And trivial is over 203 (according to another thread). I am at 163 now and have a geerlok. Got from 160 to 163 on making soft fur paddings (and made all 8 armor pieces for the 8th shawl tonight)

Whiskers, anyone? Really that rare?

Of course, I spawned over 20 death squads before Tanik showed his ugly face. *snarl, stomp, steam*

Tell me I am just extremely unlucky, or even looking in the wrong place...

I got my Wolf Whiskers right after I got Velious in the process of Factioning for +CoV. I am not sure how many I killed total, but it was somewhere above 100 and I only ever saw two drop.(One of which was actually just sitting on a corpse I happened to run by that someone else got).

Of course, right now I have every peice ready for the sixth and Seventh shawls, but Cannot finish the fifth one because I cannot get a wurm bile to drop.

There probably aren't so many people faction hunting in GD anymore. But if there are people faction hunting, and you have /ooc'd you want whiskers, you'll probably get some.

I got my whiskers (times 3 due to failures) fairly readily while working on faction. But I killed a lot of wolves.

Here's a thought - The inventory graphic for the whiskers is black, and at least on my interface is quite literally impossible to distinguish from an empty loot spot. I think I might have missed one or more whiskers when killing many of these and quickly looting before I realized this. Make sure you check the first available loot spots on each corpse each time, and/or loot the things completely and then verify the corpse poofs when you stand up. you may just be thinking the corpse is empty when in fact every now and then there is a whisker. I did this not long ago, and got roughly a whisker every 25 kills or so.

If you press the Alt key with the cursor in the loot invntory (or a vendor's inventory, or a backpack) the names of all the items magically appear. If you left click on an item while holding the Alt key the item description window opens instantly and doesn't close till you click it closed.

Ouch...had much better luck when I was hunting wolves. I hunted wolves and giants for exp and faction from my late from about 38 to 40ish and looted 6 whiskers myself and let tons more rot because I just didn't feel like giving up any more of my bank space since I knew it would be a very very long time before I attempted the 6th shawl. Make sure you shout to the zone that you want to loot some whiskers. Alot of people hunt in that area for faction and may not need the whiskers.

Has anyone gotten any whiskers in the last month or so?
I have killed 500 or so wolves and not one whisker.

I got a pair in about an hour on Xegony last week.
The vast majority of GD wolves were being killed at the time
for faction. I didn't actually kill either of the ones that dropped whiskers.
(6th shawl, first try @158+5%, I'm very sorry.)

We were killing the wolves by the spires a few days ago on Tunare, while waiting for folks to gather for a Kael raid... killed a pretty good number of them, and got two whiskers -- the first I actually remember seeing (though had not been looking for them until recently). I got one .. woot! and the other shawler in the group got the other (though both of us still working on #5).

I looted four in about 90 minutes last night. They are almost invisible with the default interface. Were you looting all the hides, and the corpses disapeared?

I failed on my first attempt, so now I'm working on having enough for two tries. All I need is more siren hair now.

I found the whiskers to be much more difficult to get than the siren hairs, but not by much. It took 4 combines to get my 6th, and to be honest, I'd rather have farmed those components (solo as a 62 cleric, btw. Buy woven beard and manticore manes in bazaar, go to 3 siren spawn beside the tower to SS, then just mass slaughter wolves with my nifty hammer ) a 100 times then look at another silk swatch.

Rough estimate of time spent farming each attempt: 4ish hours.

Easily doable in a day. I did an attempt a day til I succeeded.

Tell me about it. I failed first time at 120 skill and had to collect all the biles and threads again. First time took me 5 days of slaughtering everything outside the cave. I got one each day.

This time around, I've been mass murdering all the wurms for the last 4 days and have only gotten 2.

I had very good luck with the wurm biles, but I did all my hunting >south< of the tunnel (ie. other side from Thurg). Don't know if I got lucky or if chances are better down there. Took about 4 hours total for all 4. (First bile was from an abandoned wurm corpse at the druid portal, back when I was level 42 or so, sat in the bank for a LONG time!)

I have gotten 3 so far, All three were from wurms that attacked me while I was running to Velks or the Portal not while I was actually meaning to get them. I have spent about 100 hours actually hunting for them over the last year or so, and have yet to get one in all that time. Tried hunting outside velks, south of the cave, the canyon between thurg and the druid portal, and inside and around the cave entrance.
