Yikes! KOS to Coldain - Need Advice

Silly me. Having had my eyes only recently opened to the wonders of Flowing Thought, I embarked upon raising my skills to do the Prayer Shawl quest. With my skills all in order, I headed to Thurg to start the quest, only to discover that time has apparently not healed the wounds from certain hunting that I did there a long, long time ago. **** those dorfs and their elephantine memories!

While I would appreciate any advice in this area, I have two specific questions:

1) Can I inviz to Loremaster Borannin and, once there, give him toes? Or will he aggro on me once I un-inviz to do trade? It seems to me that even if this is insufficient to start quest right now given my faction problems, this is a decent way to raise faction so that eventually I can get the Prayer Shawl quest.

2) Assuming I cannot turn-in giant toes or helms or do the Phenocryst quest, what is the FASTEST way for me to raise Coldain faction? According to Alla's, none of the big Kael mobs (Tormax, Vindi) give positive Coldain faction. Do I really just have to kill hundreds of frost giants? Yikes!

or wolves. or do the ring quests with the guy charmed. i would suggest laying waste the gd and/or ew giant forts. repeatadly and often. are you on dragon or kael faction if your dorf is trashed?

The big concern for you will also be Dain Frostreaver IV. You need to have certain faction with him for the final shawl. As for coldain faction the arena mobs give positive coldain faction.

If you have access to a chanter friend, do what I did.... (at the advice of another chanter)

I went to Kael and went south at the 2nd bridge where the two fishing giants are. Just past that is a building and outside are some good DC mobs. Haste..NDT...feedback...and mow through most of Kael in no time. Took me about 15 clearings to go from KOS to just where the dorfs would start selling to me again. (but by this point you could turn in toes/helmet yadda yadda yadda)

Coldain faction is very easy. Just head over the manor in Kael, where the Iceshard brothers spawn on the throne and where the plate cycle is. It took me 4-5 hours of killing there to go from KOS to Dubious. Big Coldain hits.

Once you're at dubious, do the first step of the Phenocryst focus quest over and over using invis. I also dragged over the quest NPC from the mines using dire charm so they were both in the same room. If you have enough velium, you can get to ally from dubious in 10 minutes this way.You could also try to pacify and invis with the Phenocryst quest before dubious, but it would be a little tricky.

Dain faction is usually the concern with the quest. You'll need to kill Tormax to raise that, or face unending pain with questing and single-point increases.

Easiest way to gain faction-- hands down.

Get a faction hit on the following mobs: King Tormax, Vindi, AoW

If you suck up to a 65 wizard, they can solo the zone in in KD (WL side) up to the bank. I did it recently to get a couple levels of faction and had a healer looking for faction tag for faction hits. Gotta love 1 shot kills Went from kos to indifferent in 40 minutes

You have to be at least dubious to the dain to do the 8th shawl. so you should prolly check your dain faction as well. The coldain faction is not hard to get up but the dain faction is much more difficult.

If your max kos to dain it will take a LOT of work to get your dain fraction back! The only mobs in kael that give coldain fraction are those that are in the "Manor" or the "Plate Cycle" The place where you get the blood for the 7th shawl. I'm not sure about the toes& helms fraction thing while charmed. I do know that something w/ charm and getting fraction was charmed middle of last year. My friend tried to get his ot hammer and vs fraction back by pulling the turn in guy and letting me charm. He made the turn ins but no fraction adjustments took place. So I'm guessing they won't work in thrug.

To get dain fraction which is harder to get than tormax If I remember correction. Close to the scale of yelinak. Ie Cov's fraction is twice as big as dworfs. Takes twice as long as it took to get coldain amiable as it does for cov. The same is with the dain and yelinak but only like 8 mobs in game that you can kill give dain and yelinak I'm sorry to say.

The named guards around King Tormax all give + dain, + yelinak I'm pretty sure. I know they give + dain. King Tormax gives both. I got KT"s head a few months ago and I have never killed a dworf ever- was doing ring and shawl quests. Took me about 4 King tormax Kills and about 2 weeks of dc farming arena for helmets and toes.

But I know of a friend trying to get his 10th ring and he's killed dain like 40+ times. And he's killed KT like 10 times and he's still not duboius. Figures at least another 10 or so to get him back.

So my advice-- some how con a group of 65s to camp KT's guards and wait for the named. I hear it's decent xp as well but not pop. Keep in mind PoZs are like yellow to a 65 and give about 3 pct per xp w/ 3 65s. The KT named are like 68 I believe. Have a cleric and warrior or some time geared friends.

Get Hit of KT whenever he spawns. If you can. Do the ring quest over and over. the first few or help others. Do the shawl quests 1&2 over and over. Camp the named at spawn around KT if you can con friends into going..

Shame on you for killing the dain!

Edit- I can say with almost total certainity Vindi,AoW Cycle do not give dain fraction. They just give CoV if I remember correctly. (Not even yelinak!). Just good hits though.

You can't get faction hits from doing a quest on a charmed mob.

Just out of curiosity, do you have some mental block forcing you to
misspell faction that many times in a row?

Fractions are mathematical constructs. We're talking about FACTION here.

Well...

The entire shawl quest up to the 8th shawl turn-in can be done KOS to the Coldain with invisibility and a non kos friend to say the words in the chapel and talk to the bartender. I have done this.

I had little choice. You see, some Sony {disgusting bodypart} removed the Coldain faction increase provided by the first 4 shawl quests. So turning in toes and helms didn't help me and won't help you.

You will need to get your Dain Frostreaver IV faction up to get the Coldain Issue Kit for the last step. There is no way around this that I could discover during my two dozen unplanned trips down the Icewell.

The most effective way to raise coldain faction is to kill Frost Giant Savages in Eastern Wastes. If you are completely bottomed out KOS, killing 200 (10-12 spawn rounds at the Giant Fort) will get you to indifferent faction. Another 90ish takes you to max ally.

The most effective way to get Dain Frostreaver IV faction up is to kill King Tormax. Four kills took me from doing the max KOS Icewell Plunge to having my Coldain Issue Kit.

Thanks to all who responded. I appreciate the time you took to help a newbie! Special thanks to thrashette for, in essence, giving me a way out of the darkness. You see, I box a paladin who is max ally to the Coldain. As you can see from my original post, I had held out a hope that there a way to inviz the KOS-to-the-Coldain cleric back to the Loremaster and start / advance the quest somehow. Looks like I can use my pally to do just that.

Quick follow-up for thrashette: I understand that I inviz the KOS cleric back to the Temple and have my ally pally speak the words. I guess, for shawl 1, that after the pally speaks the words the cleric turns in the toes, correct? Please advise.

And as for shawl 2, do I have the KOS cleric initiate a trade with Loremaster BEFORE the pally speaks the words. How else does the cleric end up with the preservationists box? Or is that box (into whicxh you put the Kromrif heads) NOT no drop?

One other thing I'm not sure if anyone mentioned...

If you are doing heads-toes. You can do shawls 3 and 4 just as quickly for almost no work.

Shawl 3 is baking. Keep the symbol. Turn in shawl 2 and symbol to loremaster. Walla. Faction.

Shawl 4 is the thurg gate potion. Once you have it down, this probably takes maybe 20min to run out to him, spawn him, give him his potion, run back.

Handing in anything to a mob turns you visible . WHOMP your dead . Bite the bullet kill the giants you need to kill them for the toes and heads anyways.

Handing in toes and heads ie repeating shawl 1 and 2 ups your Dain Faction.

The Arena gives far better Dorf faction than any other Giants in Kael.
