From what I've read on Druid's Grove, you can complete the epic at 46, and it has been done in recent times. You however cannot use the effect until 50 or 51.
About six months ago or so I completed the Druid epic with my eldest Druid, who is now 65, in Time and being played by my RL wife. I started the quest at 46, did the final turn-in and received the Scimitar at 47, and the effect worked at 50. There was no MQing involved (lots of friends were, of course).

"You can't do epics until 51" isn't true.

Seeing as how epics came out when the level limit was still 50, I'd think that all of them would have to be startable and completable with 50 and under characters and groups?

No more EQ for me till they fix the crash bug.

Actually, it depends on the class. The enchanter npc will not speak to you until you are level 50.

Epics came out after kunark launched. Kunark was what raised the level to 60. I know, it feels like such a long time ago

As for getting things done at low levelsw like the shawl and epics... well, to each their own. I pride myself on doing over half my epic solo (which is an interesting challenge for a level 50 chanter, prior to veliuos coming out), and the vast majority of my shawl. While i am certainly proud of my friends, and my guild that helped, i did everything possible to minimize my "needing" them to complete those tasks... i do so hate to take up other peoples time.

Trying to get the shawl, or your epic, at such a low level is almost counterproductive. What it does is take a lot of kills that are easy 1 person soloable mobs, and makes them group encounters, or something you need a friend to kill FOR you.

Lining up these friends can be time consuming, and matching schedules can slow you down quite a bit. Honestly, You'd probably get both your shawl AND epic, in a shorter period of time, if you would concentrate on levelling to your 50s (at least) before starting. Plus you won't have to beg your friends to spend hours trying to spawn annoying mobs that you would be able to solo in a few levels. Its not like you'll often find a pickup group hunting most of these mobs.

Lastly, you might find your friends will be more receptive of your requests for epic help, if you have levelled a bit more. I know my guild generally jumps a lot faster to help on an epic fight, if the person asking is 55+. We've had too many lower levels ask for epic help, then quit playing without ever finishing the epic, or even reaching lvl 50.

made lv 40. friend was killing dervishes for a ring of frost to twink a new wizard alt. manticore added twice. now have 2 manticore mains. quadded wolves for cov faction for a few yellow of 39. did a kael raid with guild. mostly tagged for faction but did get some hits even in arena. died quickly to vindi though. now at dubious to cov so i can go to cs and some other spots now to do the shwal stuff i couldn't before. it is kinda counter productive to do the shawl too early. still would like to be young when i get it done though. most skills are about high enough cept for tailoring. omg is tailor a pain. hard getting a group to do cc or thurg for silks to get from 124 to 131. got some wu stuff banked but really hoping not to use it yet.
