  • Shawl? is it worth it?

Is the prayer shawl really worth the time and cost any more now that POP is out?

and with the newest release almost here?

Depends entirely on how you define "worth it".

I doubt the shawl itself is "worth" the enormous amount of time and platinum that goes into getting the final version.

But if you enjoy tradeskilling and questing in and of themselves, then yes, it is worth it. Frustrating as the shawl quest can be at times, I found alot of satisfaction achieving all the various goals you have to along the way.

Now to just assemble all the stuff I have in the bank for the 8th shawl and find that gnome....

Even now, the Shawl is still the best buff extending focus item in the game that I know of. It is 20% vs the 15% of Focus I,II,III,IV items. Aside from that, it has FT3. I don't know about you, but, for me, with my guild, getting a lot of FT items is rather difficult, or extremely expensive in the bazaar. Between those two effects, I would say it was worth it to me. Of course, if I hated doing tradeskills, I would probably feel differently about it.

Well, I stopped with shawl 7, ruined my faction and really have no hope or plans of getting shawl 8 because I got something I feel is better overall and in the sense of having more use than just when I buff:

        Cog Encrusted Epaulets
MAGIC ITEM LORE ITEM NO DROP
        Slot: SHOULDERS
        AC: 12
        DEX: +8 STA: +10 WIS: +12 AGI: +8
HP: +65 MANA: +65 SV COLD: +10 SV POISON: +10
        Recommended level of 55.
        Focus Effect: Haste of Mithaniel
        WT: 0.8 Size: MEDIUM
        Class: CLR DRU SHM
        Race: ALL

        Effect is:
        Haste of Mithaniel
        Increase Spell Haste by 20%
        Limit: Max Level(65)
        Limit: Spell(Complete Healing excluded)
        Limit: Min Casting Time(3 seconds)
        Limit: Spell Type(Beneficial only)
        Limit: Effect(Limit: Effect excluded)

Which I believe is the best spell haste you can get sans Time and with the buffed cleric spell haste it makes for some very nice casting times. Sometimes that extra second means life and death.

Too many other things in the game that have FT you can get to worry about doing that shawl because it IS a pita and if you do not like tradeskills, or don't want to do them all, or whatever reason then no it isn't worth it.

A lot depends on the class you play and your play style. I play a druid. For me there might be some things in Plane of Time and maybe from elementals that I might consider replacing it for. As I have access to neither zone or the loot therein at this time its a moot point. I can't think of anything short of there I would replace it with.

As was mentioned the combination of FT III and the focus effect is very hard to beat.

Edit: And really if you can make it throug 5 and 6 then shawls 7 and 8 really are not all that difficult to make or get. #5 and 6 are the hard ones IMO.

Ive had my shawl for goodness knows how many months now...

I have NO intention of taking it off until i get superior extended enhancement and i max out Flowing thought, and i can swap it for something else and not miss the effects.
That would probably involve many Vex Thal/tier 3 pop/elemental plane drops.

My rule on recommendation: If you have to ask, then the answer is no.

Anyone into tradeskills know what the shawl means. Those that don't do tradeskill to begin with will face agonizing (and seemingly unnecessary) pain.

Its as much a badge of honor to me as it is a piece of gear. Means more to me than my Grandmasters Trophy.

Xxyl - fennin ro drops a belt (clr, dru, shm) with quickening of mithanial on it which is a bit better. Not that the cog encrusted aren't one of the really good easy to get beneficial haste ones.

And there are other buff extention spells that are better than 8th shawl. But, for the number of people required 8th shawl is still one of the best shoulder items you can get. I love mine and dont' plan on replacing it for a long long time.

Tudani - Yeah but how many people are going to see Fennin Ro as opposed to a Prototype in factory? :P

<shrugs> I've seen fennin as many times as I've seen the prototypes, and I'm sure I'll see him more often than I will the prototypes. It really just depends on your guild. I was just letting you know that there are better haste items pre-time.

                              Is the shawl worth it?

Do you enjoy tradeskills? Were you planning on getting them up anyway? If you answered yes to both, then yes the shawl is worth it, and quite easy.

If you answered no to either one, prepare for a LOT of work. Some will not find that worth it, especially those who answered no to Question 1.
