And there are other buff extention spells that are better than 8th shawl.
The shawl is a 20% ext enhancement, and ft 3.

Patience of Eternity (also 20%) is availabe on the Woven Steel Sash (AC 15, STR +20, STA +20, WIS +20, INT +20, HP +135, MANA +135, SV DISEASE +18, SV COLD +18, SV POISON +18 - Required level of 65) - which drops from the Avatar of Smoke in PoA.

Patience of Time is listed as 25%, but isn't shown attatched to any items.

The only better buff extension doesn't appear to be available. Is the sash better than the shawl.. sure, if youre 65.

Is the shawl worth it.. deffinately. It's more "worth it" if you're not doing tradeskills up just to get it. For tradeskillers, it's an exceptionally nice bonus.

The Pulsing Onyx Ring has 5% more extension and works on buffs that are as short as 24 seconds, and has recently been made all/all, so yes, there is an item that offers more buff extension and FT3.

However, the shawl quest is a lot of fun, does not require any raids (mostly soloable at 60+, and 1 group for last encounter), and the item is pretty **** good considering the effort and numbers needed.

if you have to ask its prolly not. and my wizard who does almost no buffing will be getting his. why to show it off. and saying one item that drops off a god in time is better should tell you how awesome this is. too bd no 9th and 10th shawls like for the ring. anymore would turn it into an uber aid grimmel flag fest though so prolly good they dont add more to it.

Lucy doesn't show any items linked to that effect, which is why i said it doesn't appear to be available. Also, you're link doesn't work.. at least for me.. might be Alla was down when i tried it.

If the shawl is being compaired to a Time drop, then obviously it is exceptionally worth it. Again, though, if a person doesn't like tradeskills.. they're going to learn to hate them by doing this quest.

Simply put, the shawl is a great item however you slice it. As you can see from some of the comments above, even Time-enabled raiders have trouble finding better gear. I can see it being distinctly less useful for a pure melee class, but the stats and saves on it, even without the FT and focus effect, are still quite nice. Put an AC augment on it and most people will be satisfied with it.

Now, I just need to rustle up a group or three and escort that pesky dwarf across half a zone so I can get mine...

Master Fisherman (200) and possibly Drunk (2xx + 20%), not sober enough to tell!

I find it disturbing that some people have actually put a price on this quest because, to me, my shawl is priceless. I am wondering if the Aid Grimel quest has overtaken it as a tradeskillers epic but I still will not ever replace #8 until theres a #9. For you to ask if it's worthwhile then I would say no because it would not have the special meaning that it was intended to create.

Having recently received my 8th shawl, as a Necro I love it. The FT3 + Solstice earring (FT1) and my Lich mana series regenerates mana very fast (which for me is good as I seem to always have to twitch someone in group).

And yes, there are similar items, if not better. But you can't get anyone of those items at level 40. You have to be at LEAST 46 to even get to the planes and while I am not elementally flaged (nor time), I doubt that there is an easier FT3 item to obtain.

I started my shawl quest in GD in my mid-late 30s. The griffon eggs held me up until lvl 65, but I believe all of the hunting can be done by 1 group (save walking the general and even then it's probably feasible, although I love overkill myself).

To get items from Prototype or Time, it is implied you need a raid force to get there. That means you have at least 17 other people (assuming basic raid force is 18) to compete against for that item. And while the piece from PoI is nice, I as a NEC cannot use it. FT3 boots from CT are so rare (on Stromm) that it would probably take me as long to get the boots as the shawl itself.

I worked on my tradeskills as I went. It was how I bought my spells and upgraded my gear. My true goal is Aid Grimel so this was a nice benchmark. I now have the 8th shawl and my guildmates have restarted theirs (cursing the 5th and 6th ones).

This is the best FT3 item you can get without needing a raid force and can earn yourself. But if you hate tradeskills and or clicking and your wrist is sore, you may not feel it is worth it. For some clicking is boring. For others, it's christmas to see what magical item may appear on your cursor.

Good luck if you decided to attempt - it can be frustrating, but I am SO pleased I may probably do it on an alt (if I ever find a class I want to play besides a NEC) hehe

As a wizard I find I am constantly looking for mana . So anything that helps mana Regen Is good

And while the quest is somewhat time consumming and expensive at least the 8th shawl is ATTAINABLE for those of us not in UBER guilds..

Finally my thanks to the contributers to this site for the information which has made it possible to get to 4 th Shawl in about 4 hours playing time. Hmmmm see how long the the next 3 shawls take
