Wow, Illia, Allakhazam, and Brodder in the same post?

    *takes a snapshot*

Anyway, the new database on EQTC is quite savvy, and from the example that Alla gave to us non-premium folks, Allakhazam's new format looks quite groovy.

Both will continue to have high places on my EQ Favorites list.

And Illia: Your bestiary is always the first EQ Favorite I put on a new computer. It's insanely helpful.

I have to agree that it's comparing apples and oranges. This is where I come for tradeskill information. Anything else I need I use Alla's. Illia's bestiary is THE best, and I always try EQ Atlas for my map needs before looking anywhere else. The premium membership is definitely worth it to me. YMMV

No question, here is where I come first for tradeskill info, allakhazam for most other eq info, and, prior to LoY maps, eqatlas for any maps, with eqmaps being a very distant second for those maps that did not exist at eqatlas.

re: how long will it be a labor of love before it goes pay or part pay

denmother-sama seems to have a lot of love in her. ^_^ she doesn't play eq anymore b/c of the inconsideracies of other people, not because she doesn't love it.

and i think that if it got to the point that eqtc NEEDED money, she could do a call or a plea, and people would help. (see also: what sluggy.com did this week.) Heck, i'd give $5 if i didn't have to use PayPal or some other service which involved paying a 3rd party's surcharge. not that i have a solution to that, tho.

i almost phear coming back to america... my english is going to be littered with deutsch for a looooong time.

          EDIT also

ok, so i'm initially quite possessive/protective of those 'realms' which i consider myself to be a part of, even when such p/p is unneeded. Call it midsize Southern town football team training ('Go us, boo them, etc etc'). No offense is meant to AK's or any other large EQ info site.

I just happen to really like eqtc.

            We both cover a niche

            We are not truly "competing"

We both decided on a DB about the same time (Niami and I to reduce Niami's workload... Alakazam's well to be more complete would be my guess... but I am not privy to that)

Ala had people MUCH more dedicated to getting it done fast, had much more EXPERIENCED people (I taught myself PHP and MySQL doing this DB) and maybe had just plain more people

            So Ala's came out first

Since theirs was out... I met them at a con and asked them how they were displaying theirs so that ours would not be a "copy" of theirs

Really... we do not fear each other And while we do not have much comunication with each other... we are defenitely not at ods with each other )

If I may draw some flames, I have been a premium member in Allakhazam since they started the premium service. They have always been ahead. No, they are not as focused on tradeskills but they have been populating their database at least a year or two before EQT.

Remember recently when SOE did polls asking how many websites we visit a week and how many we post to a week about EQ.

                Visit = 15
Post = 4 or 5 a week (on average, but average posts per week >> 13)

                I pay for Premium Magelo.
I pay for Premium Alla (have for nearly 2 years now and love it.)
I would pay for / donate to my guild board (ezboard) but my guild will disband within the week.
I would pay for EQTC, though I have not yet. (Was about to make a donation when my wife lost her job and money got tight.)
I was about to pay for premium at eqmaps.com till I found maps.eq-toolbox.com which I find to be better and free.
I would not still be paying for this game if I had not had eqatlas.com maps and their joining Alla was a major reason I bought Premium.
                I have supported Monkly Business.
If my wife gets her "leaf blower" we'll probably make a donation to eqdruids.com
Once back on track for finances we will probably comission sig pics from either GUcomics or WTFcomics.

                On and on and on.

                No one does it all.
EQCastersRealm doesn't do justice to tradeskills mobs or drops.
Allakhazam doesn't do well on spells and tradeskills as others.
EQTC rocks at tradeskills, but is virtually non-existent in other areas.
EQDruids rocks for druid specific, and some general stuff. But the info for enchanters is... not there.

Unless and until SOE decides to put up a "EQpedia" website to supplement their income with all the info listed there... all these other sites will continue. (hopefully)

*and there is a "game design principle" which states 'Thou shalt not make the game overly complicated just to sell the Strategy Guide' and thankfully VI/SOE have stuck to that*

SOE: Buy EQ-All-The-Expansions now, and pay 12.99 a month to play.

SOE: Pay 12.99 a month for EQ, and now you can buy "The Official EQ Secrets Revealed" website access for only 9.99 a month. Mobs, drops, tradeskills, ALL the quests, tips on spawn cycles, detailed maps, and everything else you wanted to know straight from the people who built it.

Of course they could just go whole hog...

SOE: Why buy plat and items from third party vendors that would risk your account being banned? Buy the _authentic_ items from us. Plat prices from $1.50 a Kpp to $900 for 1000Kpp. Want a pair of Boots of Flowing Slime but can't gather the plat for the bazaar? $65 at the station store and it's yours. Cloned straight from the ether by your friendly new class of GM ... you've heard of GM-Staff, you've SEEN GM-Admin... -meet- GM-Vendor.....

Hmm.... that would be an interesting day.

Since Alla and Illia both came and said "we are not interested in competition with EQTC" I'm going to take them at their word. I love both sites and will continue to visit both and support both as best I can. Simply because I would find myself virtually unable to play without them.
In My (Not Always) Humble Opinion, except where I quote someone. If I don't know I say so.
I suck at this game, your mileage WILL vary. My path is probably NON-optimal.

And tell your wife the Leaf Blower is well worth all the Druid Hairs that we pull out in frustration over the camps.
