  • duplicate lore item

I've sent feedback suggesting that trade skill combines that would result in a duplicate lore item should not consume the components, similarly to a DNC.

It occurred to me making a minor item, but I know of someone who attempted to make 2 seru bane longswords, and lost the second to duplicate lore item. He still hasn't gotten the second weapon, I don't think.

Just as tradeskill items are not lost unless you fail the roll, like DNC or combining in the wrong container does not result in lost items, a combine that would generate a duplicate lore item should behave the same ... as if the combine were never attempted, I think.

I think the problem is by the time you get the duplicate lore item, the components have already been expended, i.e. the roll to detetmine success was already done and the ingredients consumed to make the item before the check for duplicate lore.

This really begs the question of how -idiot proof- do you want things to be? It really is the responsibility of the tradeskiller to verify the recipe components prior to combine, AND to examine the product produced. If that product is LORE, then the tradeskiller should know that they need to get rid of it before attempting to make another. That could be by destroying it, dropping it, putting it in the shared bank space, selling it, giving it to someone else.

The next thing you will want is the system to tell you which component you are missing in a recipe!

Please use what is on your shoulders. And learn from your mistakes. Experiment and discover what the game offers.

Then Sony should not have made a system which isnt mind numbing in the first place. After an extensive tradeskill session I make stupid mistakes out of sheer lack of brain. Gave boxes to banker, dropped stuff on floor near an NPC whom I knew picked up dropped stuff, etc.

Must love duplicate Lore items when it comes to GMing Tinkering... Collapsed Kits and such. They sell to NPC for 1cp, and sold from NPC for 1cp... and they will purchase unlimited quantities, and sell unlimited (or near it). I found 52 Collapsed Sewing Kits on an NPC in PoK... There must have been a gnome with loose bowels as those SewingK its usually sell 500pp in the Bazaar. I destroyed all but 3 so the market couldn't be flooded, and kept the remainder for myself on various mules to do simple combines such as threads & swatches.

            Tradeskills

Tradeskill sessions should be treated exactly the same as when you go grocery shopping.

Never EVER shop on an empty stomach. You will succome to the suggestive nature of product placement, and buy junk you don't need because you are slightly hungry.

Tradeskilling when tired is much the same way. Your brain is on auto-pilot, and you will mane mistakes. When you do a session, unless you are a masacist, take a break and let your fingers/wrist/mind relax. You will profit from this break! Trust me!

              I must agree.

I mean, for the love of pete , they even added "Are you sure you want to attack %t?? It cons red to you, which means it could KEEEL you!!" to characters under 11 or so.

I'm a firm believer in self-accountability, and I just look at these situations as "Oh well, I was stupid, and that was the price of not paying attention"

Every time I see a topic about lore items I'm forced to relate my disatisfaction with the fact that smithing chisels are lore. I was in ShadowHaven one night, preparing to do a large amount of boning for my MTP's, load myself up with metal (very very overweight at this point) and turn to the forge, only to see that someone has left their chisel in it. No problem, I'll just pick it up and destroy it. Nope. Its lore, and mine is in the bank. So I'm overloaded, standing next to a forge, in a zone where you can't cast SoW, and can't use the forge because I can't get rid of a DNC item that I can't remove. Feh.

I hate the red con attack message, I wish you could turn it off if you've seen it like 5 times or something >_<

Silly thought I just had when reading about the smithing chisel left in the forge.

It makes for a rather unique way of "locking" the forge for one's own use... as long as you don't mind potentially losing the chisel.

It is up to the user to realize that they have the item and that the item is lore.

That really is all the warning required.

                          Oooh. Yah. Hate that.

Need to remember to add that to feedback, and add it to my next book.

(sent SOE a 29 page "letter" which I think qualifies as a book by that point)

Unless yours was in the bank...

Destroy yours, take the one out of the forge. And keep the forge window open while you're doing it so that there's no way someone else can come back and take either the forge or the chisel that is now yours.

I could very easily have destroyed the chisel of mine that was in the bank.... had I not just made myself 350/65 weight because of all the ore I bought standign at the forge. Lets just say I had to take a loss so I could move.
