  • Patch message - cool change for tradeskills

    From today's patch message:

    ** Tradeskills **

    - Tradeskill chance of failures changed - The higher your skill is over the trivial of the combine, the less likely you are to fail with a combine. This is a reduction on the chance to always fail.

    - Stackable - Ice Burrower Silk, Pie Tins and Muffin Tins are now stackable.

    Woot! Very cool!!!

      Why?

People making them for skill ups probably. Or to sell.

Making "general inventory" or "unstackable" items can quickly become a pain.

100 attempts at Misty Thicket Picnics... painful.

100 attempts at any tailored item (presuming you saved up enough components, which do stack, to make that many in a row) .... painful squared because of REPEATED trips to a vendor to sell off each success.... one at a time.

Remember "buying and selling stacks at a time" and how wonderful it was?

(Just wish they would make it possible again to sell things out of a bag by attempting to sell the bag.)
In My (Not Always) Humble Opinion, except where I quote someone. If I don't know I say so.
I suck at this game, your mileage WILL vary. My path is probably NON-optimal.

I have several pie tins in my kitchen drawer. They stack, durnit.

Besides, it's awfully convenient when tradeskill utensils stack. When filleting meat, for instance, I always keep two filleting knives on me. If I fail a combine, I almost invariably drop the knife into the auto-equip slot accidentally since I expected to wind up with a fillet on my pointer. Having the second knife in inventory guarantees that I'll know exactly which bag my knife went into without having to rummage through my bags.

Yes! I knew I wasn't imagining things! I faintly remember we could do this, long time ago, but while I was trying to explain this to some people recently, they just stared at me with a blank look!

It would be nice to have stackable non-stick fry pans for my Bazaar trader, but pie pans also sell every so often... so this is a Good Thing.

I just wish the skill failure mod went both ways. I mean, a GM Fletcher should NOT fail as often on the lowest possible recipe, and we all agree on that, but, a person with a 1 skill in fletching should NOT be able to get their GM badge by buying 20 attempts at it! I think they should've made teh failure rates scale based on your skill level compared to the trivial skill threshold for the item.

Thus, a GM fletcher with the easiest possible recipe might fail one in a hundred attempts. A skill 1 fletcher trying a 250 skill recipe might succeed ONCE in a hundred tries. <sigh> Hope they get this soon too...

they removed the ability to sell things out of the bag (about 1 year after i reported it) because it allowed you to sell items vendors wouldn't buy (not the no drop ones)

I once accidently sold a paw of opalla that way (luckily i bought it back an instant later for 0 money

This was an inadequate change, does that surprise anyone? 60 Black Acrylia Temper combines, which trivial at 135, with 250 brewing and the trophy, and I had 2 fails.

So are you saying this is the same as it was prior to the patch? I am wondering because I as a smith hate failing on metal bits and metal rings when attempting the sub combines that I need to do.

When the rings Tivial at 40 and I fail in 5 out of 30 combines I just want to spit!

Hoping that at the very least we see a bit better success rates for the lower end (Pre 100) stuff.

I only failed 5 out of 340 on a 93 trivial with max effective skill (246+geerlok). This works out to only about 1% compared to 5% before the patch, definately much better.

I am sure they did change something, what I am saying is that you can still get screwed even when combining something that is way trivial.

Had my largest fail rate ever making Fierce Heraldic armor. 14 attempts and 3 successes  Anyone else getting creamed in high end fails? My skill is 250 used GM Hammer and Gearlock. I camped twice and it didn't seem to change my fate. *sigh* Although, I didn't fail any of the Celestial Temper combines, that was nice for a change.

Using your hammer and geerlok together arent going to do anything. Sell that geerlok.
