anyone tried to make some things just trivial? knowing SoE I made a mule, brought him to 21 in smithing and then made 500 metal bits with him, which are trivial at 18.

and guess what? out of these 500 combines I got 171 fails. that's a bit under 35 percent fails on a trivial combine!

I can only hope this is only in low levels, if this stays true in higher skill levels, good luck you folks trying to make anything that's hardly trivial for you, like shawl quest maybe.

Even though it may be a lower change of failure, you still have to deal with the dreaded RNG. And, consequently....failing 2 out of 60 tempers isn't exactly getting "screwed over" imho...

As I understand the trivia vs. fail rate reduce only works with an item that's trivia for your skill, so for the person who failed human smith item that's not changed since those items have trivia = 250+. Last night, I also failed 4/5 mistletoe sickles with 250 + trophy. I hardly have bad luck like that.

          Turrwin,

That's about the expected failure rate from the formula calculated. The change as stated I take to mean that the basic success rate calculation isn't changed, but when that calculation takes the failure below 5%, it doesn't hit that minimum cap. Thus, at low levels, something just trivial will still have a high failure rate.

I make prismatic dyes...my pottery is around 144 and my brewing is around 158.

Pottyer and Brewing skill for these dyes are trivial around 50something. I would generally fail more on one or the other skill in any given night to where my overall failure rate would be about 10% of my total. For example, if I attempted 100 dyes, I could end up with 90 dyes. I did not notice much change last night after the patch. So for about 100 skill points above trivial, there seems to be little or no change, indicate the 5% rule is still in effect. Maybe I will up my brewing and pottery skills some more and test the waters again someday...

I notice a tremendous difference. Recently before patch I made 6 haversacks. Each haversack requires 36 tufts of dire wolf fur that goes through 16 subcombines before the final combine. These sub combines triv at >41 <=46. We saw the 5% rule in force a lot on these. I have 241 unmodified tailoring, so I'm ~200 skill points over the triv.

Before patch: I had 6 fails combining 240 tufts to make 24 woven dire wolf fur. Lost 24 tufts.
This morning: I had no fails combining 324 tufts to make 36 woven dire wolf fur.

I love the new failure rates. Last night I made

5 Artisan's Seals with no failures at all.
11 Enchanted bricks of electrified copper with no failures.
9 Enchanted bricks of nightmare iron with 1 failure.
6 Lizard Tempers with no failures.

I have 160 Essence of Sunlight and 150 Blue Diamonds I will be working on this weekend. Hopefully I will see a significant drop in failures with these as well

This isn't a very big change and on higher level combines most people won't notice a difference. Keep in mind that you had to be considerably over trivial to get to 5% fail rate to begin with. The new formula allows for trivial fail rates to drop below 5%. This doesn't mean that EVERYTHING trivial will have a less than 5% fail rate, it means that if your skill is sufficiently high enough, the fail rate CAN drop below 5%.

The difference is noticable if you are doing hundreds of combines. Yesterday I went on a tailoring binge and the new formula was very apparent:

                      243/248 velium bits (186 smithing, 21 trivial, 98.0% success)
                      80/81 velium studs (186 smithing, 35 trivial, 98.7% success)
240/245 Blessed dust of Tunare (252 pottery, 103 trivial, 97.9% success)
232/240 sacred Tunare silk (215 tailoring, 135 trivial, 96.6% success)

Those fail rates look pretty good to me. Much nicer not to fail 5/100 on trivial combines.

It's VERY reassuring to see those number Wandor. I was worried that I'd need to be 200+ to notice any change on anything. To me, that would not have been fair since a large percent of the things that require the low trivial recipes are trivial by 200. It really hurts to fail 3 combines in a row when trying to make larger pieces of acrylia… (Bye-bye to 9 pieces and about an hour of farming)

                          What have they actually changed?

I'm actually failing more on MQ folded metal.

With max brewing and max pottery, I failed on more celestial tempers than usual and more blue diamond powders than usual. Out of about 140 total combines(about 70 blue diamonds to go through the two BD-containing combines necessary to make finished celestial tempers), I lost 13 diamonds. That's roughly a 10% failure rate.

                            Certainly no improvement there!

                              No tailoring failures

Tonight I did 136 leather padding and 42 woven dire wolf fur, including all subs. ZERO failures.

                              Tailoring skill of 184

You're always gonna see a high fail rate on Kaladim's Constitutional. It trivials OVER 250...

I did notice a considerable difference in fails on low trivial combines myself. The night before the patch I lost 4 of 40 soda waters with brewing skill of 250. The night after the patch I lost 1 of 43. I can live with that. We mustn't expect all these things to become no-fail combines. Real life doesn't work that way - even the best have their imperfections.

I lost far fewer velium bits and mithril bits following the patch as well, with smithing skill 187.
