  • Superstition?

So while doing mind numbing regular combines I just zone out and do it mechanically one at a time. However, doing expensive combines, like PoP combines or Trophy combines, I have a certain routine I follow. First of all, I do all my combine in SH unless I need specific container (some PoP and cultural for example). I have all collapsible containers so I can do most PoP in SH. Second, before I do the combine, I say the following pharase "come on, come on, come on". 3 times just like that. The when I do the combine, I focus intensly and click the button and blink at the same time.

I know, it's kind of stupid but whatever works for me, right? What routines do you guys follow for these combines?

Well, I haven't done any really expensive combines, but when I do tradeskills, I always make sure all my containers are closed before hitting the combine button, except when I'm making Halas 10lb Meat Pies. (I once had a good run of combines without any failures when I left my Rallic Pack open, so I leave it open for good luck)

I also have a rule of thumb that if I'm doing items to sell as opposed to doing them just for skill-ups, I quit after 3 failures and wait at least fifteen minutes to half an hour before trying again.

When I'm doing the final combine of something really big and important (like my baker's trophy) I log to character select before the final combine. Bizarre I know. I also close my eyes when I make the click so I don't see for a second whether or not I've succeeded (hubby saw me sitting perfectly still with my eyes closed and said "Umm, honey it's on your cursor.")

              the sweet spot

ever think for a moment the exact LOC you are sitting in as well as time play some factor in RNG? I found a spot that seems to get me more skillups then other places that seem cursed. If I could drag a forge around with me i would. I know its silly but so are many of the things people do at casinos.

I wouldn't really call this a superstition, because I don't do it in the belief that it helps me in any way whatsoever.

But when it comes to making stuff, I am very anal retentive about the order in which they go into the tradeskill container. Example: Yesterday, doing MHB combines, I had in a 10-slot container:

1st row of container: Empty Slot, Stack of Casks
                2nd row: Short Beer, Malt
                3rd row: Short Beer, Malt
4th row: Flask of Water, Malt
5th row: Flask of Water, Yeast

When I transferred the items to the Brew Barrel, I did so in mirror image from my 10-slot container (i.e. 1st row was Casks, Empty Slot; 2nd row was Malt, Short Beer; etc)

As we tradeskillers do, I occasionally misclicked and got something in the wrong order. However, despite knowing that it doesn't make a bit of difference in the world as to how the ingredients are arranged in the container, I would always "fix" the click so that things were in their "proper" order once again.

I do this for all of my trade skills.

                  *laugh*

I tend to vary the placement of things in the tradeskill container, and then repeat any arrangement I get a successful combine or skillup on. Not that this does any good, of course... :P

I take a deep breath and as soon as my exhale is complete, I press Combine.

If i have Spirit of the Eagle on, ill also hit combine on the 'bottom' of the bounce.

Doesnt help any but i like to pretend i think that it does.

When I am doing shadowscream armor, I try to build up karma by giving all of my successes away.

Only annoying thing is that there are so few non Beastlord Vah Shir that I usually have to go to some other newbie zone to dump all of it off.

                          Help a Newbie

I swear helping a Newbie will improve your skillups and chances of success. Helping does not mean giving a beggar plat or randomly giving away items. Example, a low halfling druid was in Kelethin more lost than the usual wood elves who are born there (Oh the days when I was a newb and taking 20 minutes to find my own guildhouse...the 10th TIME. Why is it up and down and around and about? *sniff*).

Well, I helped him find the guild easily enough then went back to skilling up on Cultural Fletching.

After going about 2 skillups in my last 250 attempts, I got freaking 3 skillups in my next 40 attempts. Then another 2 in my next batch of 40 attempts.

It wasn't the RNG. It wasn't because I swore off women for a week if I got a skillup. It wasn't because I did a shot of hot sauce before my next batch. It wasn't because I was in a yoga position while clicking. It wasn't because I swore never to call a gnome "smelly" ever again.

Nope. It was because I gave genuine help to a newbie.

                            OMG you guys are nuts.

Well okay, I too make sure the components are in a certain order in the container before I click, re-arranging them if they're wrong before doing the combine, and say an outloud "cmooooooooooon" before the important ones as well.

I also take off whatever geerlok or wisdom gear that's in my Primary, Secondary, Range, and Ammo slot, and then re-equip them for good measure.

This isn't really a "corner" for tradeskillers, LOL it's a nuthouse.

I always do this, I think it is a behaviour I learned "back in the day" when a missing or wrong component destroyed all of the ingredients. I also prefer to put components in exactly the order listed in the recipe.

In addition, I log to char selection screen before doing the final round of "skillup combines" after all of the sub-combines are completed. I also do not spell cast or click sense-heading or any other "skill path" actions.
