Tried posting this yesterday, but think it got lost.

Speaking from the perspective of someone who has 250 skill in 6 of the skills - with one left to go. And that one is tailoring, and I am extremely burned out. Its just one more tradeskill, so I should be eager to complete it, but its such an arduous one, and I admit I have a bit of a mental block about it. Its been nearly 2 months since I finished the 6th skill (fletching) which was right on the heals of the 5th (smithing). And in those 2 months, I've gotten 9 skill ups in tailoring, haven't even crossed 200 yet, (197). Every time I sit down, I am extremely disappointed in the number of skill ups for the number of combines I am doing (I had very good luck with smithing, averaged 14 combines/skill up post 200). I keep finding other things to work on instead.

My advice, do one of the long and painful ones first (tailoring or smithing), recognize that you are going to have another that's just as long as painful, and a couple more that are pretty close to those. And see if you really have the heart to finish it.

And ya, 200 hours camping is an underestimate in my book as well.

There pretty much isn't a real answer to these questions. How much is it gonna cost you? Well that depends on alot of things. Most tradeskills have multiple options on what you can make sometimes they are even different by race because of cultural options. Whats your wis/int/str/what ever at. The higher your stats the better your chances of skills are going to be. There is still some debate if over 255 helps but it seems to and at least 255 vs 100 is comonly accepted as making a difference. Higher the stats the quicker the skill ups come the less you spend. Even how much rand loves or hates you will effect your cost. Do you get a run of 5 skill ups in 40 combines from 193-198 rather than having to 200 combines for each point? Big difference in cost.
      Baking 190
Generally pretty cheap and pretty easy to do. Can often skill up for free by selling your products in the bazaar to cover costs. Just do yourself a favor and don't kill your future maket in the name of selling quicker while skilling up. Halas meat pies and misty picnics are common ones. There are a variety of other PoP ones now but most are more difficult to collect components for but if you have the components they are good options to skill up.
      Tailoring 170
Usually recognize as one of the 2 worst trade skills. Either expensive or time consuming or both for most people to skill up. The closest thing to a store bought option is the solstice robes but they still require someone to imbue the emeralds, alot of processing and silk swatches. These can be a very good skill up method if you have the needed skills and do the work yourself and the market isn't crashed on your server. Personally I used robes for going from 187-226 and figure I made money doing that since i was selling them for 1000 to 1250pp. The market seemed to crash on my server right about when I decided I was just making too many of them to use as skill ups and you now regularly see several robes for sale at 750pp or less. After 226 I burned my stash of acrylia, othmir and arctic wyvern that I had bought cheap in the bazaar while I was doing robes. I figure calling robes over all a break even situation that I probably spend 5k on ribbons getting to 187 and then another 15-20k getting from 226 to 240+ on misc other things. All in all not bad at all especially for tailoring altho I doubt I could do it again now with the changes in the robe market on the server.
      Blacksmithing 173
Can't really offer any advice here. Did it before the trivial change can go up to 233 on ornate/FS plate and then just did cultural sickles to 250. Cost for me was like 15-20k but easily made back and then some on sickles and cultural.
      Fletching 174
Fletching might as well be 2 tradeskills. Up to 202 you can do arrows and easily get skill ups off store bought items for little or no cost. Post 202 your either making bows which cost alot to ALOT or your farming to make arrows. If your lucky your a wood elf and can do thier cultural arrows which are a bit cheaper and easier than either other option but still alot worse than arrows. For me personally on my trek to 1750 fletching is easily going to be the most expensive since I already had smithing and tailoring was done cheaply.
      Brewing 173
Pretty cheap and store bought all the way to 248 just have to get a replacement wrist after your done from all the clicking.
      Jewellery 192
Store bought is pretty much the only option. Cost is gonna depend alot on luck later on. The faster the skill ups come and the less failed combines you get the cheaper it's gonna be. Also if you happen to be an enchanter enchanting the bars can decrease the cost futher to the point of being able to make a profit if your lucky.
      Pottery 173
Pottery isn't too bad. Can pretty cheaply get up to 199 with vials/casserol dishes. Past there it gets a bit more expensive and starts requiring other skills but still not bad. If you do steins and can store them and eventually sell them all the cost is pretty low. If you destroy them its a more expensive but still not too bad.

Personally I started off my trip towards 1750 with smithing already at 250 and everything else at 200 except tailoring which was 158 or so. What I did was ended up working on something and tailoring at the same time. First it was brewing and tailoring, then JC and tailoring, finally pottery and tailoring. I was also already in the elemental planes and working on the aid gimel quest. By the time I finished off pottery I had gotten my tailoring high enough that I attempted the tailoring combines for that and kept farming parts for that and buying components in the bazaar to skill up my tailoring so I ended up at over 240 tailoring by the time I finished that step and started on the fletching.

Smithing to 250 Skill can be done in 24 hours with very little plat if you get yourself a 15% mod item.

          My experiences so far:

          Smithing
188-202 I can't say for sure.. I did a wide mix of Acrylia, Cultural, and Shadowscream, my guess would put it at 10k
202-250 I did on ~95% MCSs. Cost on that as best I figured was somewhere in the range of 330.6k pp. (the link on my smithing experience is here, about halfway down http://mboards.eqtraders.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=3233&highlight= ). (Did 200-250 in about 6 months)

          Brewing
Cost next to nothing, didn't pay attention, because it was well under 1kpp, so I didn't really care. It went a little slowly, but after I found the Akanon vendors it was really easy. (Did 200-250 in about 1 week)

          Fletching
This one was a pain. I went the bow route, because I didn't want to deal with the farming of vendors or mobs to do arrows. I spent just shy of 100k to go from 200 to 250, I got 2 skill ups on about 100 arrow combines that I made as a test. (Did 200-250 in less than 2 days)

          Jewelcraft
Again, I don't have exact numbers, but I didn't think it was either expensive or time connsuming, I would guess that I spent around 20k, but I made a few trivial mistakes along the way. (Did 200-250 in less than 1 week)

          Pottery (not maxed yet)
Annoying, just because of what you need to do the 200-250 combines. I also have no solid documentation for what this cost me to do, other than "alot" but I have also made it back selling steins and idols. Having access to my own enchanter, and a good line on mana vials, I would say I spent more than 50k and less than 100k going from 200-243.. but I have not used the most efficeint ways.

          Baking + Tailoring
Can't comment from experince. My friend did get his tailoring to 250 however, and I know he was dropping large ammounts of money, for emeralds, silks, skins, etc... Based on what I have seen, going through the 180s, I expect it to cost at least 100k, if not more.

          Q

*edit to correct confusing text... it was "100 arrows" it should have been "100 arrow combines".

What Vulcon said about smithing is no longer applicable. That skill-up route was "FIXED"

Huh? I'd like to see that. If you are talking about PoP combines of ethereal bricks, they top out at 212 and you still have to do shadowscream, sickles, high end cultural or acrlyia plate for the rest. I have just past the 212 mark and not looking forward to the rest. If you have alternative, I would like to hear about that.
