  • Combines without in-game recipes?

To the best of our collective knowledge, have there been any combines discovered without an in-game source for the recipe?

An example would have been the Bristlebane Party Platter, where you had to guess the recipe. Granted, the Platter was an extreme case which was perhaps too hard to guess.

I guess what I'm thinking is that for the next expansion, VI would announce, "We have implemented 126 new smithing recipes, 314 new brewing recipes, ... and 71 new alchemy recipes. However, none of the recipes are available through in-game sources such as books or NPC quest text. It is up to players to experiment and find the new combinations. Some of the new recipes require items from this expansion, but many only use items that previously existed in the game."

How would you guys feel about that? Would it be more interesting for you if we had to experiment to find items, rather than just read books? (And yes, I made up those numbers by randomly hitting the number pad. )

Master Wu`s comes to mind. Other then that, the Party Plater and Butter. I'm sure there are more, just can't think of any.

From my memory Master Wu's did have instructions in the game when it was implemented. However. The recipe for the items were a random drop on a rare mob so people rarely saw it. (then later they started selling that parchment that said the recipe on vendors)

Close - the dropped recipe was only for the fighting gloves, not everything else. Experimenting with that made the rest of the armor. I believe one of the key clues was the addition of the looms as ten slot containers and the fact that no known recipes at the time needed that many.
