I'm not going anywhere. To much time in EQ, and an older computer that won't run EQ2 anyway. Heh

Guild broke up and had mass exodus right after beating Fennin Ro and barely learning Xegony (was this close >.< to entering her liar). Unfortunately for me, EQ might be ending sooner than I wanted. Very disheartening to be reduced from the number 2 guild down to god-knows what now.

Been playing the game since November 1999 and still have ig goals that I want to achieve. I love raiding, exping, exploring zones, doing Tradeskills duh! Would want to think I'll be playing EQ until SOE decides to pull the plug.

Have no desire to play EQ2, this game has been fullfilling to the utmost thus far.

I have no desire or plan to play EQ2. If it weren't for the friends I have in EQ1, I wouldn't be playing that either. I am in a similar situation as that of Nimphe. Though I wasn't in the 2nd biggest guild, I've been in many guilds that just as they are getting to go somewhere, they break up.

          WHAT THE HECK????

          RA Disbanded?

          Holy Crud, Batman.

You are always welcome into the guild with Arakni and I. We have a few 60 + people, One 64, and 2 65s, so it won't be the same calibur as RA, but..

              Will be staying.

Don't have much desire to start from the ground up again - at least not yet. <grin> Still have a ways to go to hit the top.

If I may submit the contrary:

                - if you friends leave for EQ2, you would most likely join them
                - if you guild leaves for EQ2, many of your friends will too (see above)
                - if you have friends that quitted EQ and will come back to EQ2, you will consider it (see first)
                - if Sony offer a smooth and cheap way to cross over, a lot of people would (see above)

I'd say it is not about what you think you want to do. EQ or EQ2 matters little. This is the friendship that matters, so that's where you'll be.

Wow! I'm genuinely surprised to hear so many people express a lack of desire to hop to EQ2. I plan to get it and drop EQ rather immediately, once it's up.

People often, not just here, speak of investment... I love my two main characters, Syrinne Taz (56th halfling druid) and Keeh Estrogena (49th gnome warrior-mechanic). I've RPed them a fair bit, they've got their own personalities, and I love them shorties. Syrinne is 201 Tailoring, 198-200 on Baking, Brewing, Pottery, Fishing, 150 or so in Smithing. Keeh is 202 Tinkering (most of this was PRE-geerloks, eh!), 198 Fletching. Tons of time, tons of play. I dunno; I've invested emotional energy in the characters, but in terms of the tradeskilling... it's all been fun (and obviously frustrating at times), but I don't consider it to be work (if I did, I'd not have done it), and so I don't think of it as so much of an investment.

I mean, sure, I'm at high skill levels now, but when I was lower level, I had a great time successfully making my first handmade backpack; this was back when the backpack was the uber tailored item, even though you could still make reinforced leather to get to 115 or whatever. Or when, as Keeh, I made my first spyglass - check this thing out! Soon I'll be making a REBREATHER! But then as EQ developed, I made my first cobalt drake belt, which at the time was the 2nd highest droppable WIS item in the game... and as Keeh I made my first piece of Watchman armor - vambraces w/a clickable 40% haste buff! Wooo! I was havin' much joy in making nifty things for the first time. And then there was the snow bunny hood! I still get it out sometimes just to freak people out, even though the stats are horrible.

I love playing a lowbie. I love the idea of my new character making something for the first time; someone else sees it and says "Woah hey, that's better than this tattered rag I looted... can you make me one?" The same person checks back in a week or two later, and you say "Hey, look at this upgraded version I made! Oh, how's your older stuff holding up? Need any stitching?" It's all relative to me. Making newbie items at a newbie skill level, for the first time, will be as exciting as making the uberly uber items at 200+. For me at least.

I guess I see EQ2's new tradeskilling as being lots of new stuff to play with and discover. And the whole notion of a tradeskilling class just speaks of great RP possibilities. All I've read of EQ2 has impressed me, and while some people seem to dislike the notion of degrading items, I love it. It was one of the best things I saw in DAOC. Items should degrade, and it's a good way to aid in maintaining a saner economy. And it gives even more for tradeskillers to do, assuming that it will involve such a person's ability to do some kind of repair work. Even if not, it will aid in creating a continuing demand for made items.

So this excites me, home ownership excites me, alternative methods of gaining xp excites me, a bank in which multiple characters can share items excites me, the highly configurable, individualizing class structure excites me, especially the tradeskill class excites me of course. And just as DAOC appropriated and improved upon EQ's game dynamics and added new ones of its own, I'm sure that EQ2 will be bouncing off of good things found in that and other MMORPGS, and make newly evolved improvements. EQ already has done that in a notable fashion, and EQ2 will surely take advantage of all that has been before, whether it's from EQ or other games. And I'm excited to see what Norrath looks like in 3000 years.

Oh sure, it won't be perfect; it never is. Neither is EQ, as we continue to see after all these years... "HRALP, my recipe is suddenly DNC! AAAH!" and so on. Of course EQ2 will likely be patchmania at first, but, if you expect and are prepared for it, big woop.

Anyway, this is by no means me saying that people are at all wrong or anything for wanting to stay in EQ, or for feeling strongly about the investments they've made, of whatever nature. And I take people who've put in so much time to a pursuit we mutually enjoy seriously and with respect. So don't think my decision and feelings are in any way a slam on anyone here for their decisions. But I am, again, surprised. I really thought that people would be chomping on the bit, as I am, for the new game.

Well! Until then, of course, I'll be still putting together the occasional nuts and bolts as Keeh, and poking myself with a sewing needle as Syrinne. Although now I'm mostly on as a new mage, and of course, I'm learning research as a tradeskill....

EQ will be the last MMORPG I ever play. RL responsibilities are slowly squeezing out my alter-ego persona's in Norrath. I'm not saying that's all bad either. It's just that after nearly 4 years of investment in this game, with over 200 REAL WORLD days invested across all my characters... I could not imagine trying to devote that kind of time and commitment into another game, no matter how great, terrific, revolutionary and wonderful it may (or may not) be.

I played Ultima Online. I tried out DAoC. EQ is by far the standard that any future MMORPG will be built off of. Hats off to SOE/Verant for the game they've created. We gripe about it at times, we hate it, we love it, we miss it when we're gone and it still keeps us entertained and wanting more. I'll stick with EQ till the plug is finally pulled or I simply can't commit the time to play anymore.

                      Sorry. No EQ2 here.

I'm definately leaving for EQII. I don't mind that the time "invested" in my 55 druid is gone again. It wasn't *work* it was fun. And I enjoyed the lowbie-levels more than the higher levels anyay! 8)

It will be nice to discover the new beautiful Norrath and beeing in awe again

EQ is the biggest timesink I've ever been caught up in. I would be scared to get into something else that consumes so much of my thoughts. I've never enjoyed playing something as much as EQ, and can't see tossing it all away to for yet another addiction. No sir, when I leave EQ, I think I'll hang up muh swords for good.

EQ2 might be the best thing since sliced bread, but I've still got tons to accomplish in EQ.

No global bank. Gotta schlep things around with you on a packmule if you want them.

Item degradation. Over time your items wear out and need repair.

Player owned houses. Thousands of people competing for limited space.
These "features" was intented but how its going to work out remains to be seen.

SWG, for example, has no global bank but it works out fine.

Item degradation means tradeskills will have a place in the normal game play. Diablo wasn't too bad. Your items are probably not going to decay in 1 or 2 sessions.

"Thousands of people competing for limited space." only happened in UO. They haven't announce how they will implement this yet.

How do they do that? Do players have the ability to carry more (because of cargo space in their ship, maybe)? Or is travel between your home and the adventuring area so easy that you can pop back to the bank any time you want?

SWG has ships that take people places, transparently (like a pok book, sort of.)

It also has universal banks as far as cash goes. If you have credits in your bank, they are used when you buy stuff. I bet EQ is the same way, so you would not have to bring 5000 plus plat around to buy a tinkers bag a la EQ.

So individual item banks could be seen as an advantage. Would you rather have a limit of 8 or 16 slots like in EQ, or 8 or 16 slots with 9 different banks? You could store all the tradeskill drops for one tradeskill in one bank.

In other words, a lot of the plus or minuses will be totally dependant upon how they actually design it.
