  • EQ 2 - Who's doing what?

With EQ2 in devolopment, who's planning to leave EQ when it goes live?

I plan on staying on EQ since my computer probably (sp?) handle EQ2 (it barely handles some Luclin zones, I haven't been to any PoP zones excpet PoK)...

I'm expecting to see a mass exodus leaving EQ within 2 months of EQ2 going live.

    Anyone else? Thoughts? Plans?

Hark! Who is that, prowling along the fields! It is Draggar De'VIr, hands clutching two hardened pitas! He cries gutterally: "In the name of Thor the Mighty, I hereby void your warranty, and send you back to God!!!"

The majority of my friends/guild will be staying.

I don't know what I'll be doing, I really started EQ 3 years too late....

I'd love to get in on the ground floor and start a new game with other newbies instead of being a newbie in a land full of twinks like I was last year.

Anyhow, I might also catch up to everyone by then, and want to stay, hehe.

I'm staying. When I leave EQ it'll be to play RL full time. I don't expect that to happen till they take the servers down for the last time, either.

*snickers* That reminds me, I dreamed last night that I was looking for a new house and went to look at a nice cave in Qeynos Hills. EQ is definitely home!

/Agree, when I started EQ about exactly a year ago myself, everything I was doing had been done many times before. It would be fun to at least start the game on a level playing field with everyone else, even if that means blundering around trying to figure out how to do things. Though if there are any shawl-like quests in EQ2 I will really miss having an authentic Verdandi guide

Of course EQ2 is not scheduled for release till the end of this year and based on prior experience it is not unreasonable to guess it may be a little late Which means there is still plenty of time to play EQ and having spent lots of time already on my tradeskills, and anticipating spending alot more, I suspect I will be staying in EQ for a long time to come.

            My guess?

People will take a look at the game, but the majority of the players will stay in EQ. While a lot of people will leave, many will stay simply because this is the game they're familiar with, and this is the game that they've invested a lot of time and effort into.

Here's an evil thought/question - If there is a large enough exodus from EQ, will servers get consolidated?

I only started in late June and do not plan to leave for EQ2 or SWG. I may look at them both but even that won't be until after the first patch or just before the first expansion.

I wouldn't mind consolidation if population declines somewhat...

I have no plans at all of leaving for EQ2, SWG, Shadowbane, or any other MMORPG game. I feel that I have invested far, far too much time, effort, blood, sweat and tears into my character, alts, and tradeskills, to leave for another game.

I have played EQ for a little over 2 years now, and 95% of those two years were spent with one character. During those two years, I have experienced a range of emotions, seen a lot, learned a lot about people, the human spirit, and other things, watched friends come and go, heard many times "it's just a game" yet never believed it was ever "just a game", and given myself and received far more then could ever be imagined from "a video game". I can't imagine giving that up, and just jumping to another game. To me, it would feel like I'm betraying my characters in EQ, or forced to decide between EQ/EQ2/other game.

Personally, I still find a TON of enjoyment and entertainment from EQ - whether it be getting aa points, farming for tradeskill stuff, or farming for twink gear...working on tradeskills with an alt, or just challenging myself to see what I can solo with my pet... I don't see any of that disappearing anytime soon...and if I get bored with playing a mage..well, that's why I made a few alts

I plan to continue playing EQ until either a) RL forces me to stop playing, or b) I can no longer play due to there being no servers for me to play on.

Until then, I have tradeskills to master, goals to accomplish, aa points to get, alts who want levels and gear, and mobs that need killing by my pet and I

This is like asking if you'd leave your current car for one like it but a lot better, maybe, or a lot worse. Its a vague question so its hard to answer.

People say they will go and other people say they will stay, but none of them really know until EQ2 is out. If EQ2 is said to be the most fantastic thing in the world, way better in many ways than EQ, most people playing EQ are going to try it. If it is so great, you are unlikely to spend time in something a lot worse even though you spent years playing a character.

I am intrigued by EQ2, especially after the information that came out at Fan Faire, and am definitely keeping an eye on its development. I will wait for reports from some other brave souls who have tried it before making more of a decision. I have decided, however, that since I currently have two EQ accounts, if I do try EQ2, I will use that to replace one of my current accounts and still keep my main characters alive and active in EQ, at least until and unless I find the new game so compelling, I lose all interest in EQ. If that happens, it is time for them to go.

No global bank. Gotta schlep things around with you on a packmule if you want them.

Item degradation. Over time your items wear out and need repair.

Thanks, but no thanks. A game should not be so realistic that it becomes a chore just to maintain. I know a bunch of UO people who don't even play anymore but have to log in weekly (?) to keep their castle and equipment from degrading just in case they want to go back.

Some of these features do sound like they would be bad, but I have faith that they will be implemented nicely.

I myself will head over to Everquest 2 when it comes out. A whole bunch of friends and I want to start a guild from the get go while the game is young.

Well I have to say unless they come up with a way to recoup all the time I've invested in EQ one from beta then I will not be leaving EQ.

But that doesn't mean I wont play EQ2. I will definatly, if nothing else, play a tradesman. If tradesman turns out to be what I think it will be, then I will start a trades guild and go around building monuments and buildings and stuff .

                              Cendorly --
your post was so beautiful I almost cried. Well, not really, but it prompted me to consider saying I almost cried. No, really. It really embodies a lot of what I see in EQ, see while playing EQ, and see when I think about not playing EQ.

It's also 1 am. But I still like your post.

in my single and highly biased opinion, you have way too much faith in Verant. 'implimented nicely.' they've had three years to get EQ-1 running nicely, and the bazaar still can't NOT boot me in a two hour time period. And why DOES Luclin have so much lag??

                              Just me...
I will stay with EQ-1. I, like Cendorly, have too much invested here. I will play EQ until RL says no. If I were to go to EQ-2, I would get sucked into tradeskills, have no money, and try to make a mod for THAT one, too. One is freaking plenty. ^_^

/me hopes those aren't another set of famous last words..... "So [roomie], how does this game work, anyway?" .... "I wonder what's involved in making an arrow. This man stands in front of the [Kelethin] warrior guild and has arrow stuff. I'll just buy this arrow book and read it......"
