  • How to buy thicken/clarify/etc. mana spells now?

I assume with the 4/8 patch that illusions will no longer make people non-KOS to brownies in lesser faydark. Any ideas how to buy the thicken/crystallize/clarify/distill/purify mana spells now?

The only way I can think of off the top of my head is using sneak, which no enchanter can do.

(Are these spells sold somewhere besides the brownie village?)

    Ack!

That was one consequence I hadn't forseen!
I'll see if I can scuttle on over there tonight and try it out - they don't like ANY of the playable races there, the nasty things.

You can always ask for help. I used my Vah Shir shaman to buy the spells for my enchanter using invis to get in then sneak to buy. Then I just gated out.

No idea whether druids' wolf form will be changed faction wise or not but they may be able to help you too.

Might be a new lucrative market for some people to sell these spells in the bazaar for a slight mark-up to make it easier for some people to get them. Might make mana vials a little more available for all too.

I wonder if this holds for minor illusion also (another way to buy the spells in the past).

Forgive me, but what I understood from the patch is , if you are playing a playable race, that your faction would not be adjusted..
that being said, are wolves considered playable? because Rangers/Druids can change form? What about Bears? can shammies then purchase for people?

          I am confused :?

No, it's the other way around. If you are playing a playable race, you will use that race's base faction. Deity and action adjustments to faction still apply. If your illusion isn't a playable race (wolf, bear, elemental), your faction will be unchanged, that is, the same as without an illusion.

I'm guessing by playable they mean a race that appears at the character selection screen. This is (if it is what I think it is) good for elemental illusions which are KoS to guards, but bad for anyone who ever used wolf form to sneak in somewhere.

Do what I did, run in, FD, wait for guards to reset.

                Sneak, stand, buy, run out...

And just to see if you can, kill one of the guards.

Maybe I'll start selling the spells in bazaar for double what the Brownies do.... hmmmm.

Are there no races that are not KOS to Brownies?

And no wolves and bears are non-playable races so you get your base faction.

I am not aware of any... it is common that you need various spells/tricks to be able to buy from them...

Some of those tricks may no longer work, if that is the case... they may have to rethink faction completely.

For example, if sneaking is the only way to buy from them, sneaking to buy in itself is a bug right, so if they ever fix that... it will be literally impossible to purchase those spells.

                      Hmm...

Well, hopefully since Minor Illusion and Treeform turn a player into inanimate objects, those spells will still set faction to indifferent, and the faction changes will only apply to illusions that imitate mobiles. Otherwise they would be completely useless. The only practical value to either of those illusions was the indiff to all faction (did they still set faction to indiff in the expansions? never tried them there), and there's not much point in turning yourself into an immobile fire pot if it doesn't change your faction.

All I can say is that I'm glad my pocket enchanter has already purchased ALL of his mana spells. I do hope for the sake of future enchanters that they make the mana spells researchable or for sale from other vendors.

                          Good news!!!!
My druid is sitting wolf form in the middle of the brownie village, conning apprehensively and able to buy from the merchant.

Dunno if it affects people who have killed brownies though, she never has.

                          But still!!!

Confirmed that druid/ranger wolf form will allow shopping with the brownies. There is currently NO way for an enchanter to obtain these spells without outside aid. (Tested with alliance, minor illusion, illusion spirit wolf, and all sorts of other contortions to be sure that there wasn't any way that my level 61 enchantress could shop from them.

The vendors are noncharmable, my best faction spell would only get me from threatening to dubious (which is not enough to shop from vendors), no illusion that I tried changed faction one single dollop with them, and I had no sneak ability.

So, the bad news is that the independent sorts can no longer acquire their spells without assistance, the good news is that you CAN use wolf form to get them.

This has been brought up to the powers that be, and they're looking into it.

The alliance/minor illusion combo was said to have worked previously. People would cast til dubious, then do minor illusion by the merchant....

Also enchanters have said that Elemental illusions have previously worked for them.

                              Have those been rechecked specifically?
