Remember, the patch said that ALL non playable race illusions have been set so that they don't affect faction. So werewolf, elemental, and other illusions should not affect how the brownies see you at all.
My guess is that wolf form was left alone because messing around with it would upset an awful lot of things in the old world. Has anyone tried it in the expansion zones to see if its still KoS there?

One more question - does Illusion Froglok affect faction or not? Frogloks are now a player race, but the spell uses the old skin. Just curious if the illusion affects faction or not.

And both minor illusion and treeform should really automatically set faction to indifferent. There's really no other reason to use the spells.

Eumerin... Wolf in theory would be included in 'all', that is why we were asking for those specific tests.

The Denmom didn't specifically say she tried anything that had been reported to have worked previously.

        IE: Elemental/Warewolf

          Err, yes she did.

Confirmed that druid/ranger wolf form will allow shopping with the brownies. There is currently NO way for an enchanter to obtain these spells without outside aid. (Tested with alliance, minor illusion, illusion spirit wolf, and all sorts of other contortions to be sure that there wasn't any way that my level 61 enchantress could shop from them.
If she didn't, why would she be dropping a note to them that this is screwy?

FYI - we'll probably be adding the mana spells to a vendor (first candidate is High Hold), but not taking them off the brownie.

I can only speak for myself, but

I don't like relying on a druid or ranger to cast wolf-form on me so I can buy my spells - as an enchanter, I really should be able to cast an illusion that works *myself*, and not have to rely on a tree-hugger to cast that illusion for me

I also don't really think moving the spells is a very good "fix". If the worry was people moving about in PoP where they shouldn't be, make illusions KoS in PoP. I liked the challenge of having to figure out how to get my spells from those tiny brownies, and I never killed any of them so I could help other chanters get their spells too.

Looks like their going to do it to me again I made a small fortune buying poison based spells in Halas and reselling them in Shar Vahl before they put a vendor there. Guess i'm glad for the warning this time, I got stuck with a backpack full of spells last time. ops:

When my enchanter was level 12 (high elf agnostic) she walked right into the brownie village and bought them herself. She did not use illusions or wolf form.

                  The trick is this:

                  1. Approach the brownie village from GFay zone by swinging wide LEFT around the village. If you circle right, you will be too close.

                  2. Position yourself far enough away so you can target a brownie guard without getting in aggro range. Keep your eye out for wanderers.

                  3. Inch forward bit by bit until you can cast Alliance on the brownie guard. Alliance will affect all the brownies in the village. Re-con the guard to make sure you're still OK.

                  4. Walk in and shop.

Worked like ... forgive the pun ... a charm.

Well, I have bought my first of the line while someone was killing the merchant. Even during fighting he sold me the spells. Was not planned that way, but when I saw someone killing him I quickly righticlicked him and hey, he responded.

So maybe this is a viable way, too.

Hey now, "all sorts of other contortions" does not "specifically" mention either elemental or warewolf. It's a moot point today, but I don't like being contradicted like that Kronepsis.

It may imply that, but it sure didn't actually say it. This is not a site that implications are usually enough, we want/need specifics.

The other thread, and the Absor comment, are good enough for me, last post in this thread.

                        Bug with Minor Illusion

There was a bug that occurred with Minor Illusion. There was, maybe still is, a way to make the spell a permanent effect (till death, zone, or casting another illusion). The bug removed the root component yet retained the illusion and faction.

Wanna fish all day in PoN? PoD? Sure, no problem. Explore the entire zone from top to bottom of you want, no worries. With AA abilties, this bug may even be applied to an entire raid (in theory).

Quite useful if you're into exploits. Removing the faction adjustment for non-pc illusion is one stop-gap before coming up with a final fix. Be patient.

Sorry I took so long to respond - I'd forgotten about this thread, after I posted on the front page of the site and edited the mana vials FAQ.

For clarification, I started as threatening to the brownie guards.

I cast collaboration (level 51 faction adjuster, that has a tad more "oomph" than the level 8 alliance spell). This brought me to dubious, which, as all should know by now, is enough to bank with, but not enough to shop with.

                          * Minor illusion did NO faction change (i.e., stayed dubious)
                          * elemental illusions (all four of them) did NO faction change
                          * Over half the other illusions in my book, just on a whim - nada
                          * When told by a Dev that "wolf form should still work", I tried the level 39 illusion: spirit wolf - no faction change
                          * On a whim, I tried higher-end charm (boltran's agracerie) on a very green-con vendor, and received the message that they could not be charmed ... so I mezzed the little brat and went to fetch my druid ...

At that point, it was pretty clear to me that the old way of buying spells with alliance and minor illusion was a no-go, and that other illusions weren't going to do the trick either. I was told that they were looking into the issue, so I let it rest after verifying that yes, with druid wolf form, my enchantress was indifferent with the brownie vendors and guards.

As usual, SOE is clueless about their own game.

I couldn't check out whether or not my enchanter could buy, since I've killed quite a few brownies. On the other hand, I did check out the werewolf hunters in NK (you know the ones, small group of hunters near the withered treant in the north part of the zone). I had previously tragically discovered that (surprise surprise) werewolf form made you KOS to that band of folks. I tested it out today, and it didn't change my faction with them.

I'll leave my editorial comments to another forum, but I was, to say the least, very disappointed.

Hmmm... So if I am understanding this right, illusions no longer adjust faction, so opposite aligned races are able to see through the illusion? If that the case, what is the point of the illusions then if they can be seen through except for the fact that you look "different?" If I am misunderstanding this, I apologize. I just don't see the point of the illusions now if it does not adjust your faction.

Hobbun, race illusions still work, but if you change to a non-playable race, no factions change.

So change to a dark elf to trade in Neriak, but dont' change to an elemental to buy from a brownie.

This was apparantly to prevent exploits... but may have been better fixed by... fixing the things being exploited .
