  • Fan Faire Report

Well, this is going to be a very bland report. Turns out that SoE would rather push EQ2 and Planetside(First person shooter..../sarcastic yay), so they didnt bring as many tradeskill devs, or just EQ devs as the last few fan faires. There was in fact, just the one tradeskill dev, and he was stuck in the general EQ forum.

So if you were at FF and you heard any other tradeskill things brought up, please add on.

-Someone brought up that its annoying to fail slicing a cake, or other completely trivial things. One dev was unaware that we could actually fail these things, and the tradeskill dev said that it would be looked into.

Yeah....thats it, *sigh*. Didnt even get to say Hi to the Denmom because I didnt want to stalk her tables during dinner.

On a nontradeskill related note: EQ2 is VERY pretty, they showed us an actual working demo(not a movie). Shadow effects are great, and animations are perfect. The demo did crash 2 times, so we know it will be just as good as EQ

Also, someone brought up that warriors are underpowered in PoP, it was acknowledged and said it would be looked into and hopefully fixed, so dont fret warriors.

As ‘trivial’ as this may seem to some people (oooo, punny!) if they fix it so that items that are say 50? 75? 100? pts trivial to you NEVER fail, I think we would all be very happy

Heh, I think I got about 10 bites of food at the banquet on Saturday night.

On the plus side, I had probably 200 folks or so catch up with me at one point or another during the weekend, including one time where I walked by a group of about 10 people chatting, one person caught sight of my badge, and I was literally surrounded in 10 seconds flat.

It was a LOT of fun (even if I have almost no voice now due to all the cigarette smoke at the hotel/casino), and I met a lot of great people. Not a lot was discussed about tradeskills publicly, but with Frizznik and I in communication (oftentimes several times a week), have no fear, things ARE getting addressed as resources allow.

Ouch. The 5 going west on a Sunday is about as much fun as having your teeth pulled. Or um...some really awful elective surgery, or something.

          OMG!

If they would fix it so 100+ trivial items are no fail, I for one would be exstatic!

Glad you had a good time Denmom. I've been to one fan faire already myself, hoping to go to Chicago in the fall.

I really wanted to hit this one, but finances did not allow. *sigh*

                Fan Faire

Someone did mention the naming on dwarven cultural where basic (non-imbued, non-enchanted) is named the exact same as the imbued/enchanted version. The guy said to contact him later and he would look into it. After meeting you, I understood that you have gotten the ball rolling on this already.

BTW, the high point of the entire fan faire was meeting Niami. Even if it hadn't been a less than impressive fan faire, that would probably have still been the high point.

I was the one who mentioned that it was possible for a grandmaster baker to fail slicing a wedding cake. there was a general round of laughter and some back and forth chatting before Scott Hartsman stopped the discussion to say "Wait a minute, that wasn't a joke? A GM baker really can fail at slicing a cake?" He was stunned when this was confirmed by everyone there.

As Scott is the technical director of EQ, I am hoping that it is a "good thing" that he had this brought to his attention.

Was nice to meet you, Niami.

Gleaned from a report on Druids Grove: http://pub149.ezboard.com/fthedruidsgrovegeneral.showMessage?topicID=30814.t opic

Trolls take back grobb: They wouldn't discuss it, apparently because they have plans for something along these lines. Verrry interesting.

5% failure rate on very trivial combines: they will look into changing it, but no specific promises.

Dwarven smithing: they didn't realize that two types of armor had the same name. Should fix it.

Yeah it was too bad they didn't have more to say about tradeskills. But really there were plenty of other things they didn't have time for either.

The only thing I noticed about the EQ2 demo is that the graphics are better. I didn't see anything that suggested the game would be better in any way.

I saw Niami on Sunday, just before she left, since I hadn't wanted to bother her either. But she apparently had plenty of company at dinner. She recognized my name, and then was more interested in leaving than chatting with me. Oh well. I was glad I hadn't missed her.

Edit: this is scary. I posted on Druid's Grove then came straight here and posted here. My previous thread was linked before I got here.

I was there as well when Scott was just floored by that question. I guess he doesn't tradeskill with his character. Since the main forum was mixed in with the tradeskills, there were very little time for the tradeskill questions (new charm nerf question took like 5 minutes of 45 minutes allowed).

I did go up there after the last session and tried to ask a few questions to Paul, who was in charge of content and tradeskills and he said he was late to something and gave me him business card to send him questions. I am not sure if I should do this but maybe we can have like top 10 questions from this forum and I can send him an email and get the answers back. One question I was going to ask was why is that all containrs in the world would not let you comine stacked items but collapsed containers still do.

Any thoughts on some other questions?

I did see Niami several times but as others have said, didn't want to bother her since she was running around doing the live quest. I did say hi to her at SF fan faire so it was not a big deal.

Wizard's Al'Kabor spells being underpowered: They've seen this issue quite a bit on message boards, but never looked into it. They know, but just don't care.

Thats all I have to say about that

At level 52 now I have yet to use an Al'Crapor spell (well, never more than once after watching my mana bar disapear).

No biggie though, we have other spells...

I am excited about the upcoming partial Denerf of my monk... he has been hurting badly these past 4-5 months.

All in all, sounds like the fanfair was productive, I can't wait to hear more of the 5% trivial being looked at. I'll cross my fingers on that one.
