    Way back (you know, before ctrl gave you one and alt showed you what was in the container) I used to fill up with 3-5 stacks of arrow components and start going ...

    And I would almost ritualisticaly toss in a stack of some mid-price component, leave out the cheap component, and punch combine .... Back before fletching kits said "er, huh?" and instead said "C is fo Cookie and that's good enough for me! *munch munch munch*"

    I only ate the expensive bits a few times

      My favorite screw-up wasn't very expensive but it sure was painful.

      There I am, in Halas, bellied up to the brew barrel making MHBs trying to trivial the combine.

      combine combine combine
      buy buy buy
      combine combine combine
      combine combine combine

      that's when it hit me. The recipie trivialed 60 combines ago

        I make a lot of mana vials. I sell at reasonable prices, so I end up making lots and lots. My bloopers include:

        Buying stacks of sealed poison vials instead of poison vials.

        Buying 80 star rubies instead of rubies to make a stack of purified.

        Buying 400 sapphires to make 100 distilled mana vials. (Was after a 5 week vacation and thinking it takes 4 sapphires instead of 2.)

        And as of LAST NIGHT I can confirm for the above poster that purified mana will also poof if you cast with one on your cursor. I set up for 60 distilled and 20 purified. At the end I had 59 and 19. No ducking on a horse, and level 3 in channeling focus. I started running halfway through the cast and 'channeled' successfully to burn 525pp in components.

          Just had to laugh at that. LOL

          I do beleive a friend of mine did the World Container transfer trick to move some stuff to his alt isntead of finding someone to transfer the goods for him... Move what? Some good armor, an expensive weapon, a couple spells, and a few stacks of spider silks to start his character's life out with tailoring. Put it all in the loom, click combine instead of Done, one very expensive silk swatch for said twink!

            farghen, on long casting spells like that it's relatively easy to duck out of your cast even if you're on your horse: type /dism to dismount and then duck! you have to pay attention, but you can type /dism (NOT use a hotkey, type it) and hop off in mid cast. I would think that hopping off my horse would interrupt my casting, but I guess i'm more graceful in norrath than i am in earth

              I sorta dabble at stuff as opposed to focused "I will get everything to 200" tradeskillers. I like the way the solstice earring quest is set up (as opposed to the *spit* shawl) and have gotten pleasure out of making various bits for it myself.

              So, I did all the baking, easy enough, then made the fishing rod, then moved on to the robe. Look at the recipe, okay, not cheap and not easy but what the hell, I'll give it a go. Right, so first the sacred silk.

              * Silks, gottem, combine them into swatches.

              * Celestial essence, oh here we go again. I can stand it though, sorted.

              * Blessed Dust, np, I still have four stacks of plains pebbles in the bank. Shout for a druid to imbue, pay a nice tip, that's done. Jars of acid and the essence, smash them up in the kiln, not bad, almost 4 stacks of dust.

              * Celestial essence again, but I'm getting into a rhythm now, gonna make me some nice silk.

              Line up the backpack against the loom just so and here we go:

              Swatch+essence+dust... DNC?

              check container. Normal tailoring kit. Hmmm. Try a loom just in case.

              swatch+essence+dust ... DNC

              Double check quantities, hmm, one of each. That's what I'm doing!

              swatch+essence+dust ... DNC

              /gui hey, what's up with Sacred Tunare Silk, I'm... uh oh. Did I just say Tunare?

              Bank the four stacks of Blessed Dust of Karana and start over with emeralds.

              *glower*

                Hmmm…. Over the years I have:

                Combined stacks of ingredients
                Continued making scores of items that were trivial to me
                Lost lots of components to combinable containers when I had the recipe wrong (back in the day)
                Hit COMBINE on a backpack full of gear in a sewing kit (back in the same day)
                Sold valuable items to a merchant (that I could not afford to buy back)
                Did scores of skillup combines in my fighting gear
                Never lost items in a no-rent bag! (go me!)
                Bought stacks of the wrong components (MQ Sheet Metal anyone?)
                Used horribly expensive components to make the wrong item
                Forgotten to add imbued gem to armor combines that were supposed to be imbued
                Used the wrong forge, even though I was standing right next to the correct one (Stormguard forge is right next to a normal forge)
                Used the wrong recipe COUNTLESS times

                But my favorite has to be the time when I showed up to be main tank for a raid in my tradeskill gear. This was before we were sure whether or not skill modifiers stacked. I was wielding my Geerlock in one hand, a Cracked Darkwood Shield in the other and had my GM hammer in the range slot. My main weapon, my haste item, and most of my best fighting gear were safely tucked away in the bank, four zones away. The whole raid had to wait for me to get a port back to the bank and then run back to the raid.

                  {giggles at Morniel, then crawls into her packs to nest}

                  I've lost count of the times I've tried to attack mobs with fishing pole, tailoring trophy, jc trophy, alchemy trophy (all different characters, mind you) or CHA steins in hand.

                  I've lost count of the times where I've spent forever and a decade running around like a wild woman to get all the parts together to do a complex series of combines, just to find I'm missing one of the needed ingredients (ending up with lots of sub-combines sitting in my packs until I can get the one part that lets me compress them down into 1 or 2 items).

                  I've done the wrong recipe thing more times than I can count - after all this time, there's just too many recipes rattling around in my brain, and my memory isn't what it used to be.

                  ~~~
                  Morniel-lass? If you e'er see my shammie running into the thick of things with a bag graphic in her hand, /bonk me, please? I cannot fit the mobs into any sort of potion bag, and they'll be much more impressed if I have my epic in hand.
