IMHO the stats that you give, Tobin, are somewhat weak considering how incredably hard it is to get ANY skill to 250. Though having something that is crazy uber with higher skill levels would just cause an influx of people powerleveling tradeskills and cause a glut in the market shooting silks to 25pp each, acrylia to 250pp each, etc... though I feel us tradeskillers deservve something that makes all this work worthwhile beyond being able to make other items.

The text notes that they'll react to their surroundings.. so here's a few ideas:
Mark of the Foliage: Invisible spells do not fail early in Forrested zones.
Dungeon Map: Wearer receives a 50 skill bonus to Tracking in dungeon zones (As in, -anyone- can track in dungeon zones)
Fishhead Fetish: +STA and +DEX when underwater
Air Sickness Herb: +STR and +AGI the higher your ellivation (Perhaps an alchemy item)
Winged shoe: +AC and +HP when running (So you can survive Mobs beating on you while running away)
Weapon Master's Seal: +15% to parry and +15% to Dodge when using the same weapon type as your opponent.

    On the possibilities!

      Brewing no real chance.
No doubt you'll need brewing. After all who else makes tempers?

Nice idea but I would do different...
Well, for lack of a better name, that's what I came up with for my idea.

I agree though, there definetly should be a charm item that increases in power for each tradeskill over 200, and the stats should be really nice for the difficulty.

        ---

On another note, I think they could make Charms produced by just about every tradeskill. The Charm slot doesn't seem limited to any particular item like how you'd expect to wear a breastplate on your chest or hat on your head. These basically just seem to be items that are decorations. They said, "Charms can take many forms. They can be broaches, cape clasps, pendants and other such adornments." and gave the examples of a Cloth Doll, Gold Disc and Mark of Stealth.

        So,
Smithed - Medals, Discs, Signets, Ceremonial weapons
Tailored - Dolls, Hair bands, bows
Pottery - Clay cloak clasps, Idols, Icons
Fletching - Arrowheads (such as an arrowhead strong enough to pierce Veeshan's scale, or an Arrowhead used to kill a certain hero)
Tinkering - Gadgets (such as an electric conductor that increases in power for each tinkered item you have)
Jewelcraft - Charms (as in the things you put on charm bracelets)
Fishing - Flies or Lures (like a lucky lure)

Brewing and Baking are sort of the difficult ones though. I mean, unless you are going to walk around with a garnish on your head or a vial of liquid around your neck, there isn't much that would constitute as an edible or drinkable adornment.

Of course, I could see them going a different way with this and making it so having specific foods or drinks would increase your charms powers and thus increase the market for them. For example, they could have a "Cannibal's Tongue" that increases in power for every type of cannibalistic food you have on you. Or an "Idol of Health" that increases for every vegetable type meal you have.

Alchemy is another tough one since it's only used to make potions basically (and dyes). However, they could just do some potions that act as charms (or potions that summon charms). For example, a "Potion of Decay" could summon a Skull of Decay using bone chips as a component. The lower your DR, the more powerful the Skull becomes.

Charms can take many forms. They can be broaches, cape clasps, pendants and other such adornments. They vary in appearance, but they all share one property. Charms are more than just simple magic items. They interact with the world around them and often with their owner. Charms are aware of their surroundings, at least in some limited way. This limited perception is usually directed, or aimed at a specific purpose, though that is not always the case.

A charm, for example, may have been created by a druid after a lifetime of battles with the forces of Blackburrow or the Coldpaw Clan. She may have imbued her charms with the power to grant strength to those that kill her lifelong enemies, and that strength may grow with the owner's dedication to the charm's cause. Or perhaps there is an ancient Dwarven charm, blessed by Brell, that grants a boon - but only to Dwarves.

And of course there are rumors that some of these charms only work with arms or armor created by the same weapon or armor smith, and that their magic grows stronger with every piece of the armor set the owner wears.

Charms are an entirely new breed of magical items that are aware of certain situations and conditions around them. Some even believe that the magic in them is alive, given the way they seem to react differently to each owner. We've discovered three example charms to show you. Unlike the fictitious charms mentioned above, these charms might just resemble what you can find in Norrath:

Would everyone please pay attention to the bold and underlined parts - it's all false advertising - they are BSing you into getting the expansion thinking that charms do all those spliffy and neat things - they don't - they tell you that they don't and they will laugh at you and point out thier own words just like I just did when everyone goes spastic because charms aren't the phat/uber/l33t/neat/useful things we've pumped them up to possibly be.

You are trying to hard to find hidden meaning in their words. These charms will add a new slot and most definitely will be helpful. I'm not saying they will be "Uber" as you put it, but whether they add a charm slot, or a slot for a nose ring, it will be helpful. If it let's you add any stats, it is worthwhile.

                LOL - hidden meaning???

They specificly stated that all of the examples they gave were bogus - ie/there won't be charms that are more powerful when you get a full suite of armor from the same smith, there won't be charms that get better when you've killed more orcs or gnolls or whatever - all the neat and shiny examples they gave were pure flavor text.

Let's look at the words which I'm trying to "find hidden meaning" in -

Unlike the fictitious charms mentioned above, these charms might just resemble what you can find in Norrath
I don't call that "hidden meaning" - they are being very upfront here IMO. The meaning of the word "fictitious" to me is fiction, not real, bogus, vaporwhare and that is the word which they used to describe all of the charms which most of the discussion of this thread is based off of.

Now, I'm not saying that charms are going to be 100% waste of time - more stats, saves, etc are always nice - what I'm pointing out is that all of the el'neeto possibilities mentioned in thier first three paragraphs of the description of charms was pure flavor text. ie/there's no point in hoping for or discussing that part since they specifically said that everything in the first three paragraphs is "fictitious."

Actually, it just means that I wrote down some ideas that were being tossed around or that I came up with as fictional example. Then we stuck in some of the ones that have actually been created at the bottom.

There's nothing mysterious here. They were 'fictional' because they aren't really in game. That does not mean that we couldn't make them as charms, or I certainly wouldn't have used them as examples.

Thank you for visiting us Absor, and clearing that up. We do get a little irritable around here at times... and I've found over the years that as clear as one can try to be in stating something, someone will almost always misinterpret what you say. English is a very imprecise language.

Sounds like fun, anyway, and a whole realm of possibilites.

Aye, folks have been a bit touchy around here lately, as parts of their "world" get turned upside down and inside out.

Thanks for stopping by to let us know that, while the examples don't yet exist, they're definitely within the realm of possibility!

                      I'll dig out your custom title from the old boards soon-ish, Absor. Meanwhile, you got the first custom title that came to mind. {impgrin}

OMG - I know it was a bugged item, but the temptation must have been there to go solo NTOV or something.

Hell, thats the item you need to do the NToV run to POM!!!!!

                                I want a doll

I just want a doll. I've wanted a doll since I first saw the Hug dolls from PoM. I just hope there's a doll that doesn't require you to wear cloth armor. :P
