reports on the shammy boards of other focus effects being broken

wonder if this is intentional or another VI messup?

General concensous at the Enchanter boards is that this is a bug. Not only are the Ceramic Hammer of Justice and Skull of Decay no longer working for charms, but also slows, roots, mezzes, and debuffs. Currently, they are only working for DoTs.

I really wish VI would make up their @#$(*@#&$(*& minds on this issue.

When focus effects first came out, they did work on ALL debuffs, then about 2 weeks later they patched that out saying it was unintentional.

Then a month after that, the focus effects were stealth upgraded so that they went back to the original way. They've been like that for about 5 months now. Suddenly out of the blue, nerf bat.

              Which is it???

Shaman are lamenting the nerf to afflicition items as well.
I would encourage people to use the /feedback function and the Dev corner link to send feedback on this change.

It may or may not be a bug, which is a real problem.
Afflicition focus started as all Debuffs and Dots, then changed to only DoTs, but then quickly returned to all debuffs and Dots and has been that way for months and months now.

                  [edit: fixed link]

This is not a bug. It's intentional. Alan even went to far as to post a statement that they know it affects some players but they have no intention of changing it.

Absor posted in the shaman thread linked above. When was the last time anyone from Sony/Verant posted anything anywhere?

Update to the Patch Message for 2-4-03
With the patch on February 4th we fixed a bug with Affliction foci, but we failed to mention it in the patch message. We corrected a bug that was allowing these foci to work for too many spell types, including things like snares and slow. Affliction foci now only work on damage over time spells.

We apologize for not mentioning this fix in the patch message.

The very high savings in cast time and mana, as well as the extended duration, were planned to only work on damage over time spells. These spells needed more help than all other detrimental spells. The affliction foci for haste and mana are dramatically better (more than twice as effective) than other items of the type. The extension focus is better than any other as well, though not to such a degree. These items are only so much better than others because they were intended only to improve the effect of damage over time spells to bolster their value.

We fixed a similar bug in June of 2002. Some time between then and now the bug resurfaced. The bug was fixed while another was being addressed, and because it wasn't the targeted bug fix it didn't make it into the patch message. We certainly wouldn't have left this information out on purpose.

We understand that this change has an effect on some players. But these foci have always been intended to work exclusively on DoT spells, and we do not plan to undo the bug fix. We'll look at other detrimental spells and see if there are some lines that should benefit from similar focus items, but that will be done on a case-by-case basis and not by reverting this recent bug fix.

                        Alan

Absor posts a fair amount of the time if you know where to look.

I know he's made appearances on the Druids' Grove - around when the druid CH was introduced.

He also called SKs a bunch of noobs when we complained when they started stealth nerfing our aggro spells (when they transitioned to disease slow) - which we predicted would happen and SoE didn't notice until it actually happened and people started screaming. It was not one of the prettier moments in the community.

He posted, I believe, to MB around the time of the mitigation changes as well.

Before the Guild Management Tool information was posted, someone was making guesses about the features on the Sony Station message board.

                              Absor posted this great reply:
