  • Changes to tradeskills

Ngreth, i love ya man and you and Denmom have done GREAT FANTASTIC things for the tradeskill community.

However, we got an issue, its been brought up many times by many players

BANK SPACE, clogged loot tables, and bag space efficiency while on a normal nights grind

well, like back in the day, if i bring up an issue, im gonna bring up a potential solution for you (and the community to look at and discuss)

    at the moment, i see:
    14x ore (common drop)
    14x loam (rare drop)
    14x animal pelts (common drop)
    14x marrow (rare drop)
    14x silks (common drop)
    14x spinneret fluids (rare drop)
    6+ poison ingrediants (eh?)
a dozen or so uncut gems (some common some rare)

roughly totaling 102+ tradeskill items clogging the loot tables
not to mention the meat and other stuffs

alot of this stuff is not sellable to NPC's for the most part, cant even give it away to other players at times. Alot of folks dont bother and just leave it to rot on corpses (cant count the times ive walked through a zone that someone has been mass grinding and left the bodies, and 10 min later i got 6 backpacks full of TS stuffs)

yes, i am fully aware that these do drop in different level brackets as well

in comeing up with an idea for a solution, i remembered one there was (possibly still is) in the game, an npc that sold a limited supply of ore, used in makeing chainmail i belive (was long ago) with that being said, here is my idea

    1) remove the bulk drops from the loot table (vanadium will be yelled about, but let me continue to explain).. this should be pretty simple for code im thinking

    2) add these to a vendor NPC in pok and Home Cities (possibly with limited supply and quest to restock ) ... this should also be somewhat simple for code as well

    3) add an additional item to the recipie and make this dropable, this would be a "universal" item
example... copper powder ( common drop) add to the common recipies, Emerald Dust (rare drop) added to the rare recipies
unsure on code issues on this one

    4) add this 1 common drop and 1 rare drop to each bracket,.... useable by both smiths and tailors thus reduction from 6 items (ore-pelt-silk-loam-spinneret-marrow) down to 2 items ( dust - powder), i suggested useing the existing metal's as a dust (copper-silver-electrum-gold-platinum ect ect as the common, and picking gems to make dust out of starting low end, opal / emerald ect up to diamond as the rare )

    summary
reduction of bank space .... check
reduction of items in the loot table that have zero value beyond a limited player base .... check
consolidation of drops to be more effective and efficient on all players.... check

this is only and IDEA and would need further expansion / discussion ect

Or you can just move things over to a mule to hold your dropable tradeskill items. its tedious work but if you have a friend you really trust its super quick or just use shared bank. Keep things you use on a regular bases. CRD's, sushard ore, vana/imma stuff but throw everything else on a mule. i do this and when i need something for a lower level friend i meet or a guild i just log to mule real quick and see if i have what they need and because of this i have 12 empty BAG slots in my bank.

You're ignoring the fact that this would be a tremendous amount of effort for Ngreth to implement. He would have to update and test every single cultural combine there is. That's not a small amount of work, and IMO, not worth it since there are already easily avaiable work arounds (such as creating a new guild for yourself or using another character as a mule or maybe the new tradeskill NPCs that store your patterns could also store some of the ores and loams and stuff.)

I'd much rather that time be dedicated to working on new tradeskill recipes, fixing the skill up forumla so the trivial could be increased, revamping trades that haven't been changed yet, addressing the mastery AAs and trophies so they aren't over powered going foward and maybe even adding a brand new tradeskill such as carpentry (if player houses are implemented, then having the ability to make furnature for your house via a new tradeskill would be really great.) Not saying that bank space isn't an issue. It certainly is, but there's pleny other things that need to be done that would, IMO, be a better use of time.

It is not as much bank space since I have long ago gone the route of creating mules as my problem is effectively tracking what the heck I have on which mule and which account is holding the items I'm looking for. It would be acceptable to me even if it was not an in game tool. I know the EQPlayers website has the option to display bank contents, but I've never been able to get that feature to work on any of my accounts.

For this purpose I have a paid Magelo account.

Also Mewkus has an Item Data Management program. See this link:

Your wish is granted. Check the links in my signature, the ItemDataManage program does exactly that. You can see a list of which items any of your characters have, or a list of every item that all of your characters have sorted alphabetically by name, a list of items all your characters have grouped together by category (e.g. cultural recipe components, common quest turn in components, etc), a list of all items your characters have sorted by tribute value, plus a whole lot more. And all for the low low price of free. It's only been around for a little over five years.
