I have given a lot of the quested pieces to the pirate. He has not given me anything back, Aldier. You can't "sell" anything to him. He doesnt have a "sell" button. You hand it to him as a trade. When you want it back, you buy it from the list - his merchant window looks exactly like the LDON and Katta merchant windows - and lists everything you have handed him in alphabetical order. Each piece is listed at a cost of one doubloon (at this time).
He charges you for storage. He is not an npc like Caerlyna in the bazaar who trades you a token for a bag, then a bag for a token.
Perhaps that will change with the patch, but I thought they were changing from doubloons to chronobines and only the specific type of money would change.
So far, anyway, it doesn't work the way you are describing. And if it did, that would hardly be a discouragement from everyone handing him anything they can and obtaining currency in return, even if they never intend to remove it from him again.
I think the player base is coming up with some good ideas in the thread and like any brainstorming session, it may spark another different idea/solution from the people doing the actual coding and game development. On principle, I don't think we should need to pay for storage because I think it should have already been handled as a balance consideration in the game; however, I'm eagerly doing that with old Flavin already and would certainly continue to do so if another option was available for additional bank space.
With this expansion, devs have already loosened up some bank space issues. You repop with your gear - eliminating the need to store any "emergency" or "corpse run" gear. That cleared up a number of slots right there. Flavin took up residency in the lobby - that is a huge save on all these quested pieces. So some relief has been provided. To date, Flavin has freed up 22 bag slots for me, personally. But the tradeskiller still needs some room tossed their way.
