  • Master Tradeskill Tool

long story short, I made a second toon Master Artisan in a very short period of time compared to the first one, actually 4 years versus 3 weeks.

what I found the most time-consuming in those 3 weeks was to do the different tools for the combines.
on top of that, tools take an insane amount of space, and that's probably the reason of my post here.

so I was thinking about something.

we have trophies which were fun to skill on to max, now could we have some Fletching Master tool, Smith Master Tool, etc....

I explain and take an example, smithing.

I'd like to see a big tradeskill quest where i get a Master Smithing Tool, that tool is useless at first.

When i create a tool used in smithing, let's say a File, and "add" it to the Master Smithing Tool, every time there's a recipe that requires me to use the File, i can either use it or my Master Smithing Tool.

Then the goal would be to create all possible smithing tools and add them to this Master Smithing Tool, allowing us to use only one "big" tool, reducing the insane amount of bank space (I think my chanter got 4 fulls bags of tools only) required, and making a fun quest for bored tradeskillers who got franckly nothing to do now....

    suggestions welcomed !

Suggested numerous times, ixnayed numerous times.

The way the recipe system works, Ngreth would have to go through and duplicate every single recipe in the game and change the instance of "non-melded tool" with your "Master's Tool", doubling (or more) the size of the database of recipes.

In some cases, it is even worse than that because there are a few cases where recipes that produce different items, use the same consumable supplies and differ only in the tool(s) used.

The one other point is that some recipes are designed to consume the tool. No one would want to have their Master Tool consumed by accident.

          Heres an alternative solution...

instead of a master tool kit how about a master tool summoning kit?

For example a master smithing summoning kit would be right click activated and summons a temporary bag containing a file, chisel, etc. in a similar way that mages summon the phantom satchel filled with armor.

            Can't have free plat.

Either you have to kill the value of all tools to 0, or you have to again create a new recipe for EVERY recipe with a tool. Otherwise, people could summon the bag, sell the tools and get free plat which will never happen.

There is a nice thread that went on for a while and then got a bump not long ago about tools. Suggestions for a tool belt similar to the /key. There were suggestions of the trophies summoning tools and the master tools like you initially thought.

Despite my continuing to create new tools as I need them. I try other solutions now when I can, such as the "tool circles" used in jewelry.

In the end reducing tools is a gargantuan project. It is something I am interested in, but not something I can do soon.

I *like* that tool chain, even if it doesn't make sense from a reality standpoint.

Then again, I'm the guy with six different quick-change sets for his three different cordless drills...

Im not sure how it would work from a programming point of view but can the tools created be temporary, zero cost and no trade without adding a new item to all the recipies?

If not then the simplest answer would be to remove all tools as recipies and reduce the cost to 0 in much the same way the simple sewing needle costs 0.

A file with a value to merchants, tradeable, droppable, fairly common would be a different item than a file that is temporary, no trade and has no value to merchants.

Some "tools" such as the wok are not as easy to collect the parts for as say a file and should inherently have a higher cost and value. Also, some of the items listed in the other thread as tools are designed as a cost for the combine.

The temp tool would be seen as a differnet item by the game code.... thus needing every recipy that uses a tool to be duplicated (as one of the posts above mentioned)... one with old tool and another with the new temp tool.

Not sure what ppl are asking in this thread. You seriously want them to do all the tools the same way as the new JC tools? That would take forever to cycle thru to the one you needed!

Thought - new item called a "Collapsed Baking Kit" to contain ten items in a container called a "Expanded Baking Kit" with a combine button to return the bag back to the collapsed form if all ten items are in the kit.

Idea for some of the items to put in the kit: pie tin, cake round, smoker, pot, skewers, dairy spoon,

The great thing about this is if you dont have all ten items it does not collapse and so if you sell an item in the kit you lose the function of the kit untill you make or buy another one of the item you took out of the kit.

This could be done for each tradeskill and cause alot of space saving in bank space.

One other thing - kits could be hard to make and require an item from the tradeskill they are for. I like complex quests so this very useful set of items would be fun to go after.

I am not sure how much this saves space... though maybe not as bad.

You still need an open bag slot plus if you need to experiment another open bag slot (esentially) to move all of the tools around, or have an empty container for the combine.

I'd be half way to happy land if the UI could just detect that we have a tool on us and not have to go through the hassle of autoinventorying (is that a word?) it after every combine we do. It would also reduce the amount of spam we get by not telling us all the time that we also made the tool.

I'd be a quarter of the way there if it would put the tool on our cursor first. This way, as i'm skilling up in pottery, I autodrop the useless unfired thing instead of autodropping my sculpting tool.

A three quarters of the way there solution would be to implement a quest where we give a file to one of the smithing guys in PoK who in turn gives us a book with secret smithing recipes that don't require a file. And similar quests for turning in a hammer, pie tin, sewing needle, etc, etc. And these recipes can only be learned by reading the book. Yes, Ngreth would have to go through and add a bunch of recipes, but that should be something that'd just be cut&paste (hopefully). Well, ok, that's probably a full solution, but I didn't want to mess up the whole fraction thing I had started.
