  • Bank space suggestion

I know this is discussed quite a bit, in fact there is a post going on now about bags, but I had a thought based on some of the other discussions so here it is....

I understand Devs want to limit bank space, but there really should be special consideration for people who tradeskill verses those who don't. Any solution will likely require code changes and I know that is generally a problem to get resources. But if we can, I'd like the bank to have a separate tab at the top labelled tradeskills. When it is clicked a second bank is activated (looks just like your regular one). Every toon's bank would be like this. The slots except shared slots are all greyed out to start and become "ungreyed" out when you meet certain criteria, whatever is deemed appropriate. Could be reaching certain tradeskill levels, or completing tradeskill quests similar to the trophies to unlock the slots, or whatever.

Bigger bags would also fix the problem, and create a market boost for people making them. You could even incorporate other tradeskills besides tailoring, for example making wooden (fletching) or metal (smithing) chests. I know about the programming difficulties, but to be honest it really shouldn't be that hard speaking as a programmer of over 15 years.

Bottom line is that tradeskillers require way more space than others. Alt swapping is not a solution because there are so many no-trade items that have been discussed many times (for example the cultural patterns, trophies, etc.). This REALLY needs to be addressed before the next expansion, because to be honest we all do not have room for another 2075790257 no-trade tradeskill items + no-trade quest items for progression, tasks, etc. when November rolls around with new exp. Anyways feel free to discuss =)

    Hey Aso!,

I like this idea... I have been playing Age of Conan and their inventory screen has 3 tabs... "Invetory" for all your regular loot, "Quests" for all your quest items and "Resources" for all your tradeskill materials... this way you dont clog up your inventory if you grab 20 quests at once while gathering materials and farming.

As far back as I can remember, there has always been problems with space. The extra space we have been given doesn't offer up enough room for all the new goodies to be had with each expansion. Something definately needs to be done, and this "tabbed" bank might just be the answer.

I don't think that's true at all. The devs recognize the bank space issues.

They have looked into this before and determined it is a time consuming, dangerous change to the character file, and not something that they want to mess with. SKlug is a great programmer, so it's probably not difficult, but that doesn't mean it's something they are willing to mess with, because of the potential catastrophic problems that could happen should something go wrong.

The AoC idea of different storage spaces depending on item type is quite nice. Bag space is still at premium there because they did not go through all the way and made extra tabs for consumables. But that is not an EQ issue. That is bank space which has been increased in the past and should have been increased much more.
If a tab solution depending on item type makes designers/developers happy, fine, I'll take any space I can get.

I don't want them to make bigger bags or more bags. Neither of these fix the problem of the crazy influx of global drops. Between LoN cards, the tradeskill stuff, and the defiant armor I hear people constantly complaining about spending *hours* managing their banks. And, I'm definitely one of them! The way things are going I'm pretty sure they are going to make an accountant class.

Here's what I propose for changes to the bank.
          1. No more bags. You get a flat X number of spaces in a scrollable window. If you choose to store a bag then it consumes a slot. I hate, hate, hate opening every stupid bag to find what I'm looking for.

          2. No more shared bank. What you say? Every character slot (including empty character slots) on the server should have a tab in the bank. Want to put something on an alt? Drop it directly in his bank. No trade items are not an issue because you wouldn't be able to drop them on another character. Basically the same issue with lore items. All it needs to do is check the trading code.

          3. Steal the bazaar code! Make your bank sortable and searchable in a list view.

          4. Open a FedEx service for in game cash. Pay plat (or send it CoD!) to put an item into the claim window of the player you want to send an item. Getting tradeskill stuff from your friends is a real hassle.

Is this a lot of work? Yes. But, we are playing a game which is supposed to be fun. We didn't sign up for a fantasy space management league. I've been playing (not continuously) since release and I've never heard so many people have so many issues with the bank. People are really starting to get angry.
