  • A Tradeskill Proposal

Let me start by saying that I am currently unable to do what I am going to propose. At the same time it is something I hope to some day be able to accomplish. While I understand the RvR hard-core raiders will have against this, I also believe tradeskillers deserve to have rewards unique to themselves. The RvR may be different, but it is there all the same.

As it currently stands, collar and faceguard templates are used only for skill-ups. What I propose is one or the other (or both) be used to make NO TRADE items equivalent to SoF Tier 3 with focus effects of our choice.

How to do this and maintain a high RvR.

    1. The container used in the final combine can be made by smithing, tailoring, or tinkering but requires a 300 skill to attempt.

    2. The container requires a lid made with a different skill from the one used to make the container itself. I.e., if the container is made by smithing, the lid must be made by tailoring. The lid would require a minimun skill of 210 and would be NO TRADE.

    3. The lid requires a baked on coating composed of the skin of a fish caught in a SoF zone. Minimun baking skill - 210 and would be NO TRADE. (Also the ability to skin the fish would require a tailoring skill of at least 210 and again, NO TRADE.)

    4. The lid also requires hinges to attach it to the container. These are made by fletching and require a minimun skill of 210 and are NO TRADE.

    5. Hinges require oil so they work properly. This oil is obtained from a SoF fish and requires a brewing skill of 210 and is NO TRADE.

    6. The latch to lock the lid/container is a pottery combine made with a minimun skill of 210 and is NO TRADE.

    7. The focus is from a trilion cut gem. The gems used would be common gems such as opals, emeralds, etc to give the different focus effects. Minium skill required - 210 and will also be NO TRADE. (I used trilion cut as common gems are normally round cut, but any cut could be used.)

As you can see, everything other than the template(s) are NO TRADE as is the final combine. All items used require a minimun skill above 200 so AAs must be spent (210 was used as it requires AAs, but is not beyond the reach of the average tradeskiller.) [Also the skill levels should be raw skills below which the item cannot be attempted.]

While this proposal will add to Ngreth's workload, it doesn't seem to be that bad an addition. By making the final combine at SoF Tier 3 level, it would appeal to both raiders and casual players alike.

I think you have a fairly decent idea of trying to encorporate multiple tradeskills as subcombines for an item that would be fairly worthwhile. I assume the part you left out was what actually went in the container was an elegant armor rare piece?

However, consider the Eron's Jewelry item currently in game. It is a 450/470hp/mana (slightly above Tier 3) and requires 250 minimum skill and 400 trivial combines. I think it would be a neat quest/recipe for Ngreth to consider one of the non-visible templates in an armor.

Also, if any of the combines require tinkering, then the components and the results cannot be no trade or then only gnomes would be able to use/make them.

Yes the template should be an elegant combine. But using just the template removes the requirement for the really rare items (porous loam, etc).

I am aware of the Eron's Jewelry item, but was looking for a way to use as many tradeskills as possible for a different slot.

The only combines that could use tinkering by a gnome can also be made using smithing or tailoring skills. The only advantage a gnome would have is no requirement for any skill in smithing since the lid requires a tailor skill to make the coating and can be made by tailoring if the container is made by tinkering.

So it is just stick the template in the container?

There is not much RvR in that.

No the RvR is not the same as going against a raid target. BUT having to expend AAs, plat, and time to get to all the skill levels required in my proposal is equivalent. Esp true since you are spending AAs, plat, and time for an item only YOU can use.

Tradeskills are not a way to get rich, some do, but most do not. I do tradeskills for the sheer satisfaction I get when I learn a new combine; being able to make something either I or one of my alts can use vs buying it in the bazaar, even when it costs more to make the item than it would buying it; something to do besides bashing mobs. Why shouldn't tradeskillers get a reward that only they can use?

Over the years tradeskillers have gotten armor just for them. Examples are Coldain Shawl, Aid Grimal Necklace, The new One that was mentioned above. I like the idea but Sony has been giving tradeskillers stuff its just not at the same rate that we might want it.

I think this idea of special no trade items for one's hard work in skilling up in multiple areas is a pretty well thought out idea and I would be pleased to see something like it in the future.

I'm not sure the Coldain Prayer Shawl follows the original thought in this thread (even though I loved my shawl a long time ago). The Coldain Prayer Shawl required raid help when it was first introduced. The idea above does not require a raid unless I misread soemthing. I didn't work toward Aid Grimal to know if it requires more than tradeskilling and grouping.

I assure you, Aid Gremel most certainly required raiding when it was first found. Most of the pieces could be gotten by grouping, but you needed both access to flagged planes and the flags from the planes in order to get the quests involved in Aid Gremel, all of which required raids.

You mean SoF T3 group gear, right? (Ngreth has stated that he is not permitted to make tradeskilled items, including the SOF tradeskill quest reward, comparable to raid gear.)

Hmmm...I like the idea of giving tradeskillers the option of customizing one item to get a specific desired effect.

I'd recommend an augment (think OOW augs) rather than an item - or perhaps give an aug as an option. One issue with the SoF TS quest reward is that the AC is so low that raiding tanks are for the most part not interested. If my cleric was still my main, I'd be all over skilling him up (he still has Coldain shawl in the bank), but it's a very situational item for my SK and probably won't get done, given my limited playtime.

That having been said, I strongly support the idea. If they do go with an item rather than an aug, I hope they boost the AC enough so non-raiding tanks find it attractive.

I had forgotten that Ngreth was not allowed to have any tradeskill item be better than raid gear - so yes, Tier 3 group gear.

The AC on my proposal would have to be high enough to make it attractive to tanks. However, as a shadow knight I can think of some focus effects that could make up for a slight loss in AC.

Yet players who raid demand and get new and improved gear with every expansion.
I guess players who tradeskill need to make their voices heard to the bosses at SOE who decide where and how the game evolves. I'd also suggest that, SOE has more Dev time devoted to creating new raid encounters, loot, etcetera. For tradeskills to get the same attention and respect as raiding; players who care about tradeskills need to pressure SOE to get Ngreth a lackey and a couple of flunkys (or do flunkys out rank lackeys?? I don't know; I only know never stand downwind of either type; they are both rank).
