  • The only question I have left on this issue is...

    ETA?

Otherwise, I think that between these boards and the 2500+ posts on the official eq boards, pretty much everything useful has been said.

It's up to the devs now to make a decision and announce it.

    • Catamander,

What would happen if Ngreth came out and said something alongte lines:

"We realize ther is a problem, we are looking for a solution but at this time we will do nothing. We will monitor the situation and look for a way to rebalance Cultural armor with Seals at the later date."

Someone with 80/80/LB will not get too upset. Someone like me who objects simply as a question of principle, would have some satisfaction.

I am amazed how much of this made way into game. I simply cannot see developers nerfing it at this point. On the other hand there is no question they will not say "working as intended".

      Stalling can be good!!!

I would count that as a decision and take it as a good sign. Right now we have a pretty clear indication from the lead designer (Rashere) that he wants it downward adjusted and a wild swing at a nerf proposal from the tradeskill dev. So, I'd be all good with "nothing for now but we are going to leave the option open to reconsider." That would be fine with me. I lived with the rampage AE bug under exactly that kind of statement for years.

        • Even though I have been overjoyed to be able to make something my guildies (we raid demi mostly still) actually want... I would rather see larger nerfs to the new tradeskilled items than a huge nerf to LB's.

          I don't understand this:

If new cultural is causing the problem...
Why is it that older drops people spent years raiding for...
and spent on average 200k pp for along with that raid drop...
because they were the best gear they could get... are being nerfed.

Nerf the new item, not the old items people spent forever raiding and farming pp in non raid time to obtain.

          Thats my 2cp.

So, if it's not the AC/HP, not the focii, and not the stats (SURELY, the stats don't help), then what is it? The mod2s? Haven't seen anyone call for those to be lowered/removed.
One of the more amusing parts of this "discussion" it that some members from both sides seem to be using illogic.

One of the arguments used by the anti-nerfers is that the armor is needed to get the lower tiered raid guilds a leg up and help close the ever widening gap between raiders. If this is true the armor would have to be over powered.

One of the arguments used by the pro-nerfers is that the armor won't make a difference for the lower tiered guilds in advancing through the content. If this is true then the armor isn't over powered.

Quite frankly, I believe it is time for SOE to make whatever changes they think are needed (or not as the case may be) and allow everyone to move on. Actually, it is past time. Everything that can be said, has been said. We are only rehashing the same arguments now. Nothing new has really been added for a while. I seriously doubt and new and valid information will be forthcoming. Keeping us dangling on the end of a chain serves no purpose other than aggravating everyone involved.

I agree, up to the point where it seems certain that people will leave no matter what path is followed from now on. It's a question of damage control already.

What makes me shudder is not the individuals that leave but the impact on guilds overall. The issue has the potential to collapse guilds and that will make players leave who at the moment are not even thinking about quitting.

              • The black hole of communication over progress on the issue isnt helping either. The intent to consider changes was announced over 2 months ago and its been more than 3 weeks since anyone has said anything officially new on the topic. Meanwhile, John Smedley tells us the devs are already hard at work on the next expansion. Maybe they want to wait and see how level 85 armor affects the mix next November or so? No answer is also an answer.

                • Just leave everything how it is. it is fine. who cares if it is close to solteris gear, its certainly not close to sof raid gear. Wasn't this expansion meant to phase out the old ones anyway?

                  • Its intresting, all this chat and I've already voiced my say so I won't do that again but I asked myself, "Whats the impact to me?"

In answer this question I looked at the leader boards and did some evaluation. I kinda chuckled at what I found. I'm personally in a guild thats activally farming Demi. While I make cultural armor I've never worn a single piece. The quests to unlock all of the making ability is a major time sink and I need not bother mentioning how much pain there is in getting skill up high enough to even try.
So, while I could get last blood drops I havn't. I raid a lot and am fairly decked out in raid gear appropriate to our progression. From a raider point of view you can say i'll be the "base line".

Hang in there here is were it gets fun.

Ok so the next person above me, in my guild, in my class, low and behold has some culturals and last bloods! No problem, I could make some changes and do just as he did but I'm happy with my setup and think he sacrificed some effects for more hps/mana.
Do I think its broken? Naw, unfair? Naw. Just my point of view? Certainly.

So here's the next bit that suprised me and made me laugh. There is yet another person in my guild above me. Its an ALT, hehehe wow beaten out by an alt. Funny thing is this alt hasn't raided and doesn't have raid gear and its above the guy with the Last bloods. This alt is decked out in SoF group level stuff. While I'll admit its a fair amount of work and this is no slight to them for getting the SoF group gear but it shows that SoF group gear is better then Demi raid gear.
I think its intresting they want to nerf culturals when it is infact inferior to SoF group gear, never mind the fact that 80/80 is SoF "group gear".

Yep, this is just my casual observation and as I've stated I have no vested intrest and wont be affected one way or the other if it gets nerfed. That being said, there is no need to nerf it. Its working as intended.

                    • Is it finally safe to say that this issue has died and there will be no changes? As someone else had posted, when the new expansion comes out and level 85 gear comes out if there is no new cultural set then the perceived imbalance is moot given our current gear stats mudflation rate.

Nope, this pustule is still alive in all of it's festering, seeping, gut-wrenching glory.

I seriously doubt this issue will die any time in the near future. No matter what SOE does pertaining to it, people are going to remember this for a very long time.

You do hint at an interesting point that was also hinted at in the original post by SOE. Essentially the future of Cultural Armor is being decided. If no changes are to be made, then the armor line dies with this expansion. If changes are made, then Cultural Armor has a future.

Well, the way I see it, if the proposed change goes in, cultural armor is pretty much dead in this expansion unless you are a tank. The Crystallos armor will be pretty much superior in all respects. It'll be tons cheaper and easier to deck out my alt in Crystallos armor, and I don't even have to spend big chunks of cash and RPP to get it.

If SOE stays with a policy that states that cultural armor will be inferior to drop armor in group zones, it will be of little interest to me (other than being a source of revenue).

                              • danille,

Are you suggesting that level 85 armor should be in 650 HP/Mana range and that 85/85/LB should be T4 SoF raid armor? Let me ask you this question, is Last Blood going to be something that should carry forward through the rest of EQ history? Do you not think that maybe even LB should have life expectancy. Perhaps it should not be able to fit into next generation armor?
