  • Wow that was hard -- Sublime Aug Quest

So I am a proud member of Infinit, which is the core of the public raiding system on E'ci-Tunare. We're an unusual public group in that we're basically the secod best raid force on our server, and we actually beat the leading guild to be the first to clear Frostcrypt.

We took 8 of our best players -- the best warrior, cleric, wizard, necro, ranger, plus another cleric, ranger(me), and a beastlord. We had 2 out of group for back-up heals and dps. Everyone has mostly TSS raid gear, with a smattering of Demi/Dk. We set up camp in the blimp in the Fortress and began slaughtering gnomes at 9:45am. Non-stop.

At 4:15pm, we had 32 "a reavers" killed. I went afk for the last 8 mobs, so I don't know how long that took.

I've gotten it done now, and my guildmates helped me, so I can consider it a day's work, but it feels like if I were to have brought a single group of non-TSS-raid-geared people, there is no way that could be done in a week. The single group would have trouble keeping up with the spawn rate (like 12.5 minutes, but PLEASE don't increase that, b/c you need fast spawns to have a chance of popping reavers). If the "a reaver" spawned as commonly as "a trooper" it would be much more manageable -- we must have killed 200 troopers to get 40 reavers.

Anyway, I think as it stands, the quest is only going to be doable by Raiders, or possibly if an entire non-raiding guild were to work on it as a team, for their main tradeskillers' benefit. That might be by design, but if so, I'd recommend advertising it as such -- have the quest giver recommend "If you are not a raider, you may want to bring several groups of friends"

Thanks, as always, for the excellent attention to tradeskills in this forum. Just my 2 cents and take it for what it's worth (i.e. 2 cents!!!)

    Interesting perspective. Thanks for sharing.

I wonder, can you get task updates for this in a raid? If three or four groups were to set up in different areas and mass clear, would you get updates if another group in your raid killed a reaver? Would you get impressions too?

      This is a T3 zone.

T2 zones expect you to be in full Katta-level gear (ie, best single-group gear pre-SoF), L 80, with lots of AA.

T3 zones expect you to have farmed T2 until you are now in great T2 gear and have the useful SoF, and even more AA.

You managed to do it, probably with pre-80 members without lots of SoF AA, and without farming SoF gear, because you have raid gear that is better than anything you could have gotten pre-SoF in a single group.

That looks to be what the difficulty is expected to be, from developer comments.

Are you scared of T4 group content yet?

I'm curious, would I get the proper task updates while in a multi-group raid?

Yes, I got some of my updates while taking a raid group into the Zeppelin.

Confirmed, in a raid, anyone can get kills and impressions.

                My error: that wasn't a T3 zone, but a T2 zone.

On the other hand, a good puller and you can do that quest without a raid of TSS geared people.

You will wipe if you don't know where to pull to, however.

And yes, these two quests are hard.

With the massive complaints about how good these symbols are, I believe that it is justified.

I think if you are in raid format, you will only get 6 updatess, but yes you can do it that way.

I guess that's what i was advising -- for tradeskillers who aren;t lucky enough to have the nice gear my guildmates and I have, bring 24 friends -- then you can pay the favor back by making them sweet armor

Just a note, Ngreth. Don't know if you intended it this way or not, but when in an instance of the steam factory, you do not get credit for foundry worker kills.

A question for those who've done Sublime - someone on CT asserted that in order to make patterns you must also have done all the lower tier symbol quests (ie intricate, exquisite etc).

Doesn't ring true to me, but they were adamant. Anyone confirm/deny?

I can't confirm personally, but I've seen Ngreth post repeatedly that the quests are independent. In the past, I've done the old Grandmaster quest long before I bothered to run around and do the lower tiers. Right now, I'm working on my Sublime quest and leaving my Exalted until later. I have every reason to believe I will be able to make Sublime without touching the Exalteds.

I know people who were able to get the sublime book before the exalted (he still hasn't gotten it lol).
I will definitely say that the steam factory was an exercise in testing my patience as someone who doesn't typically hunt with a puller. Between being smacked constantly in the head with wreches, and people not being distracted by their work so they came in clumps... it was vicious.

With an FD puller, it was considerably easier, but those gnomes were mean, sadistic lil buggers even alone lol.
