On a side note has anyone seen any skill ups with the new recipes, I combines atleast 100 excellent/superb silks and skins and have zero skill ups at 294
I have. I started with a 284 smithing skill, and was pretty much using Tungsten Ore because I didn't want to waste the Cobalt on combines I was just going to sell anyway. But, I would do runs of 70-80 bracers and sometimes get 1 skillup, sometimes none. Bad luck with the RNG i am sure. But, I also noticed prices on Tunare server for the Tungsten was more, sometimes a lot more, than the cobalt ore was, with tungsten being usually 1-2k per brick but usually more, and cobalt being 500-1k per, with a couple here and there being more, but also a couple here and there as low as 250-300 per. Plus, there also seemed to be more cobalt around. So, at 288 I switched to Cobalt. Did 150 cobalt bracer combines and got 6 skillups so I am now sitting at 294.

A waste of cobalt? Probably, but I was smart enough to make a few templates of each type of armor, chain, plate, all visable slots and and a decent supply sitting on a tradeskill toon I made purely for bankspace.

        • where can one get recipes for higher level gear...the books you scribe for the new cultural armor only included the recipe's of the gear I had successfully scribed (and I have a long way to go)

              • Actually, i am quite pleased with a much more convient and strait foward skill up path for smithing.

It does require some getting used to though.

Certainly varies by server. On Quellious, Tungsten is generally 400 and up; Cobalt is well over 1k (despite the fact that there are scads available, compared to the loan soluble loam at 7500), Sunshard Ore was 1200 and up.

Meanwhile I'm still buying tungsten at 180 and cobalt and soluble loam at 250 in buyer mode, close to a stack a day. Thankfully, most players selling to buyers aren't as greedy as most traders sellingto players.

                      • I've had that happen occasionally. Usually, it happened when I had run and exited EQ multiple times without restarting my PC. The problem goes away when I restart the PC.

                          • For anyone interested in fighting large numbers of golems for ore, try the DoN mission Diseased Pumas. From just behind where you zone in it is ez to find about 20 or so golems you can pull with only clearing maybe 1 or 2 other mobs total. The zone repops too but repop time is pretty slow. Drop rate was decent, maybe 1 in 4. mostly tungsten.

                            • Converting silks, animal pelts and ore?

I have been searching the forums in hopes of finding a thread about how to combine lower quality materials to make higher level ones. Something like, combine 8 coarse silks in a sewing kit to make 1 rough silk and so on. Do you think this will be a possiblity in the near future since now the drops do not sell to npc vendors for anything and most players that do trade skills are already above 200 in the skills and thus there is no market to buy the lower end stuff. To be honest, I did not understand why you created any receipes for anything under 54 since most players just do the quest in abysmal sea or Creasant Reach to get the skill to 54 quickly.

There is almost no chance at all for an "upgrade" path. The drop rates are what they are for a reason... letting lower level drops become higher level drops messes that up.

And some people hate Crescent Reach, it is just the way it is. This gives them another option.
