  • Any 2100s on Test server?

    http://mboards.eqtraders.com/eq/showthread.php?t=29804

Reading the above thread, there is nothing listed for Test.

I was just going say check on EQPlayers...but checking there myself reveals that apparently Test isn't worthy of being listed in the rankings. Strange...

Test may not be in the ranking because sometimes for testing reasons characters are altered. Is it really fair that an altered character will compete with others? And currently there is no way to "detect" an altered character for the system to not include it.

Ngreth what do you mean an altered character? I have never heard of one before on test server.. Anyway the simple fact is tradeskilling on test server is very hard to do. Here folks don't have a bunch of cash and the bazaar doesn't sell tradeskill items for the most part. So if someone is tradeskilling they do it the old fashion way kill- loot- combine rinse and repeat

If I need something tested by a player, and I need them to have a skill, I set that skill.
Then I may forget to set it back :/

I do know that I have given players items for testing and let them keep it. So that also "alters" the player.

In the end it is perception I guess.

I'd rather see the few hundred (or thousand, or however many) characters on Test be able to see themselves in the rankings somehow. The vast majority should generally not be punished for something that might happen 1 time in 1000, 10000, or never.

Are the rankings that big of a deal anyways that the odd setting of a character's skill would even be noticed let alone cause an issue?

Asssuming it was an issue it could be solved by omitting Test from the ranking list of all servers (i.e., "WHERE NOT(server='Test')") but include Test in the server list so rankings within Test could be displayed (yah, I know, more work for the EQPlayers devs).

Or give them an "*" in the record books. (/runs and hides)

In all seriousness, I am a little surprised to know that there may be tradeskillers on test who had their skills artificially inflated. But more than that, it bothers me because it automatically raises suspicion about all the others.

I am quite sure that Amaljia worked for all those skill points, and as she said, it can be harder on test because there are very few tradeskill items sold on the server.

If this does not happen very much, Ngreth, I hope you will make that clear. I know this is legitimate on test and understand the reasons.

As to the player rankings, my suspicion is that because test is sort of on it's own separate system that it is just not tied in to that system. Automated magelo updates do not work on test server either.

Well, Test Server is primarily for the purpose of testing changes and ideas before throwing them out on live servers. Doesn't surprise me in the least that characters are altered. On top of the fringe benefits that test players have as well on top of that. It's like seeing someone in full qvic gear on FV. You can be almost certain that they bought it in the baz /shrug

It is correct that this is rare.

Most people "earned" their skill. I rarely forget, but it does happen.

It is more likely to be a free item the player gets. This I do as a "tester's privilege" and they are welcome to do as they wish with that item. Often it is not an item worth even worrying about, rarely it is an item that "counts"

Thanks for the clarification. I had this vision of you taking a player to a vet to get them "altered".

I think this happened when EQplayers first came out. I remember there were several 300 skill researchers listed, which was hard to do at the time because the new stuff hadn't been around long.

Then Ngreth came in and said several of the ones listed were in fact SoE testing characters and should be removed from the leaderboards, as they were given 300 skill for testing purposes.
