  • Practicality of Tradeskill Trophies

As i see it, and i am hopefully wrong, Tradeskill mods are of little use for high end TS'ers.

There is only one real possible use, and that is for recipes that have extremely high Trivials.

Currenly, the only thing that reduces failures above the 5% threshold is base skill not mod'ed skill so a Trophy can never impact the 5% threshold reduction.

In Fletching, i am currenly at 293 skill, with a 5% mod i have to be attempting a combine with a trivial above 358 before i even have a lower than 95% chance at success.

So why bother with Trophies? I would like to see Mod'ed skill used in reducing the 5% Failure threshold.

    Hmmm...

I guess the Superbowl Ring, World Series Ring, Stanley Cup, etc, are all wothless too?

The Trophies are an achievement. It's prestige.

They also have decent stats, for any tradeskiller that isn't necessarily an uber raider, and incidentally, no recommended/required level, so even more valuable to a low-level tradeskiller

They can summon unlimited wt-reduction bags (Master+ trohpies is 100% wt redux) and you can convert one of those temporary bags to a permanent one, for each trophy you get.

And yes, the %mod for the tradeskill is useful.

      did not mean to offend.

I guess i would ask a more specific question then.

And yes, the %mod for the tradeskill is useful.
is what situations is it useful for say a 300 tradeskiller?

I don't know about fletching, but I do a lot of spell research combines where the trivial is over 400. Maybe next expansion some more high-trivial fletching recipes will be added.

Then there's all the free summoned weight reduction bags so I don't need to carry so many real bags.

I believe that is the way they were intended. You get the satisfaction of actually doing the quest. Then they are somewhat useful as you are skilling up. Then you get more satisfaction when you max it out. But if someone decides not to do the quest, they can still be a successful tradeskiller.

as you pointed out earlier its useful for the very high trivial items. There are trivials pushing 425 on some items now and its likely to only go up

For my 300 smith, I have better success rates on the high end items with equipped as most of the combines she does are for very expensive items. For example the scoriae smithing combine.

Any edge you can get on a you wasted 70k in bits if it fails combine is worth it.

Also making people armor and augs they need for the high end trivial combines.. you have a much better success rate with it equipped because any skill points calculated in your favor help.

For the specific case of fletching, the Composite Treant Laminate Recurve Bow Staff (a subcombine for the druzzil bow) is trivial at 408. To get to 95% success rate on that you need 300 skill, mastery 3, and a 15% mod.
Research has trivials going up to 411.
Jewelcraft has trivials going up to 428.
Tinkering has trivials going up to 404.
Alchemy has trivials going up to 407.

These are the tradeskills that have recieved lots of new recipes in the last 3 expansions. And as the lastest recipes for those particular tradeskills, they also tend to be the ones used the most.

Many of the spell research recipes I do are 400-411 trivials. I think my 345 mod skill is quite helpful.

And I would add the obvious...the high trivial items are the ones that are the most useful/sought after, so you will tend to do more of these than most crafted items, thus the bonus is commonly used.

I am fine with the mods, since high triv items are generally the ones I am most concerned with. I wish I wasn't burning 7 bank spaces for them though.
