Guessing here.. but probably to limit the number of requests the server gets for recipes, to keep lag down. You see it when you first open the container because you request the recipes for your favorites when you open the container. The delay for barter searches annoys me more than the delay for recipes, because there is no delay for bazaar searches, so I get used to doing lots of different searches fast.
